After watching this great video, I’m having feelings of not listening to him anymore and possibly letting him go. This vase is beautiful and well done. The gilding I must say is very satisfying.

@@johnswettenham4560 depends on what grade you get, yes a fortune for tone wood - the stuff that’s suitable for musical instruments. I buy middle of the range for wall handing pieces and other pieces I don’t want big splits in, but mostly I buy the discard stuff fairly cheaply on saw milling days, dry it out over a few years and try and make something out of the strange shaped pieces that have shrunk massively as the moisture releases. Hey Gem, thanks for your lovely comments as always. Short video this week and will be a couple of weeks at least till my next one, as the current project is a big job!
It’’s quite the process to gild something like this, done over several sessions. Lenore has a degree in restoration of oil paintings including gilding, so a bit challenging to condense that for a CZcams tutorial on gilding 🤣 though I imagine someone has. I see a lot of turners attempt gilding, some with reasonable success, others attend weekend courses to hone the skill. 😁
