The band said this in a staement about the song: "It is a bitter sigh, a desperate plea and an honest assessment of human nature today"

For the music video: I think it’s about gentrification, how the rich ignore and displace the people that live in the neighborhoods they’re about to make completely unaffordable for their own profit. If you see the rich dudes are pulling out plans and stuff and legitimately ignoring that “people live here”
For the lyrics: I think more than talking to God he’s talking to the politicians and billionaires, starting wars they don’t have to fight themselves in the name of religion or “freedom”, completely ignoring the lives lost in the way.

I think the beautiful thing about the song is that while it is definitely about that, it's also about war, climate change, religious zealotry, and oppression of minorities and in general just the regular people on the lower rungs of society and the isolated.

There are a bunch of things here: the rich guy is an urban planner, working on a deal in the neighborhood, hence the cuts to the area. He also represents the rich, as well as god, and the divide between the rich and poor. The office building looking down on everything is supposed to be heaven. So Tim is asking either god or the wealthy to put differences aside to realize the point: there are people here, and you can't just abandon them out of apathy or because it doesn't work for you.

I would highly recommend 'Make It Stop' by Rise Against. It's another one of their heavier songs that really shows their depth and willingness to take on tough topics.

Thank you for reacting to more of this band, they're some of my absolute favorites. Essentially this song is a statement about whats going on in America specifically, and when it's all over was it all worth it? But I think the screaming to the sky that "People live here" shows hope whether it be literal or figurative Hell, it's kind of up to us as people to remember that we all live here and try to find peace. Whether we do that or not is to be seen

I love Rise Against in general, they generally sing about social and political issues. I guess they kind of led to how I see the world now. Rise against’s new album Nowhere Generation is pretty good, not my favorite, but it has a couple of songs I love, Sooner Or Later and Sudden Urge.

Glad you're reacting to Rise Against they're amazing I think you should watch their video for Reeducation (through labor) video it'll give you a clearer idea of the band in general, most of their music follows the old punk standard of talking about politics and social change

For me, this is all about how we find so many different things to fight with one another about- more so about how people in power fight about things that they find important- but they forget that the people who suffer are all people, the most important thing on the planet. In their petty squabbles they miss that regular people get hurt.
Remember with your wars; that people live here.

This song is about a divided nation, economically, politically and socially and by saying "from sea to shining sea" we can therefore easily conlude it is about the United States of America.

the thing with the stand tall and down on our fours part i think means that we evolved away from animals by starting to walk on two legs instead of four and that made us in the end the dominant species but the way we act towards our fellow humans makes us no better and sometimes worse than animals

When he talks about Walking Tall, it's a movie reference. It was an 80's action movie based on a true story about a Tennessee Sheriff who had moved back to his hometown to find it infested with organized crime. What set this movie apart is the sheriff refused to use guns to fight the criminals, which fits the rest of that verse. "My gun is bigger than yours.......Walking Tall once set us apart".

I appreciate you looking at the lyrics in a metaphorical sense, but some of it is quite literal. The kindergarteners in coffins is just about the mass shooting in sandy hookand the need for gun control. and the wildfires is about the massive droughts around the world sparking fires.
This song is a pleading to politicians, billionaires, and people in power to take action and stop standing idle in the wake of these disasters

Have a listen to: The House Is Dust - Everything Everything. Pretty deep song in my opinion... The full album 'Arc' explores the singers mind very well, would highly recommend

This was put out at the peak of destruction from the Trump term n all the division that brought people w guns people arguing over minimal things.
I see the video as a rich groups gentrifying communities left and right the poor just shoved aside. So he tells them "people live here" in the projects.
