Me. Because Islam proved his and Khabib's words. Islam is on a different level. Proved! Really hope people will respect him and will stop saying he needs to fight someone from top 5. It's clearly that fighters avoid fighting with Islam knowing he is childhood friend of Khabib, favorite student of Khabib's father and in some aspects even better than Khabib himself. Real champion had a name after Khabib left and it was Islam Makhachev.

I've re-watched this fight so many times. Still brings out so many emotions. The growth Chuck has had is ridiculous. He went into the fire and just never stopped pushing the pace. The champion has a name.
It seems like his biggest issue was heart/self-belief. The dude is a complete terminator, and I think people are in for a surprise thinking Islam is going to steamroll him.

The difference in experience and strength of schedule is ridiculous, not to mention stylistically Charles is the most dangerous grappler in the UFC, and he has tons of submissions off his back. If Islam stands with Charles, he's getting knocked out. If Islam gets into Charles guard, he's getting subbed.

The fact that Charles hurt Gaethje so early in this fight is crazy. Everybody talking about the grappling against Islam, Olives is one of the if not the most dangerous 155er on the feet too.

He apparently got his vision issues fixed! Per Combate interview, Charles has recently had his eyes operated and now he can see more clearly.

I am actually Brazilian and with a few searches in Portuguese I managed to find the post made my the doctor that made the surgery, he was super happy after the Gaethje fight, it was Oliv's first fight with fixed eyesight. He still needs to wear glasses for few situations tho.

The way Charles mixes up his jiu jitsu with his kickboxing is such a game-changer.
I love how he threatens with a standing guillotine when they're in close range just as a sort of distraction to then get some strikes in close. It's really interesting how he does that.

Not even in like an aggressive way, he's just completely unflappable. Man doesn't stop, nothing phases him, his stand up and ground game are equally good. Just so well rounded. I hope he reigns for a long time
Agree with everything except his ground game and stand up being equal. His stand up is incredible and has improved a lot, is undoubtedly the top of lightweight rn as shown here against Gaethje and against Chandler, but his ground game is actually a completely different level, it's so absurdly good that his striking, as good as it is, isn't even close to as good

Love his all round fight skills and his character....grew up in hardship and become an icon. We need more Olivieras and less of the brash loud mouth trash talking wankers!

Yeah but he’s a Muay Thai guy. Very common to dodge kicks with your lead leg. Their stance benefits from it. They use their lead leg a lot so moving it isn’t that hard. So it’s the style that made it harder for Justin. Obviously Charles did well, but the style is really what’s helping the most.

Everyone claims it’s his best weapon but it hasn’t done shit for him in the win column. He was getting killed by poirer as the announcers kept mentioning leg kicks as Dustin was sparring with Justin’s skull. Guess what? He got knocked out.
Well, leg kicks work better against wider stances than straight and tall stances. Oliveiras Muay Thai standing up keeps him far away and with his legs close to his body. Since your weight is relying on your back leg, you can pull up your front leg faster to dodge low kicks.
Justin landed the first two, but then Charles acknowledged them and started lifting his leg up making him miss, and countering with uppercuts. Beautiful performance.
Never seen a fighter nullify Gaethje's leg kicks so effortlessly. Beautiful work by Charles-- he knew Justin wasn't gonna shoot on him so he had that front leg super bouncy in that Muay Thai stance. Not sure how other fighters never did this lol.

Khabib walked down gaethje without getting knocked down at all and dominated him. That was still a significantly more impressive and one sided performance, didn't bleed once. Took those shots, shook them off and walked gaethje down like he was nothing throughout the fight.

The pressure Charles puts on his opponents is insane. They never get a break
pressure is easy to do you just have to march forward against your opponent, but it's hard to maintain that pressure if you cannot make them respect your potential threat in some department like striking or ground game. Charles hits so hard, he just cannot back his opponents up if he's not hitting them hard. he made Poirier look at the clock many times because Poirier feeling that pain, and Gaethje was panicking all over the place because of how hard Charles hitting him over and over.
It's a gamble. A very risky decision

Awesome to see Charles, who was once known as a one-dimensional BJJ guy with questionable heart, get into a brawl with Gaethje, one of the best brawlers the division has ever seen, and come out on top.

I never noticed how smooth that flying knee to guillotine attempt was at 1:43. Makes me wonder how many submission combos like that he had prepared, you can tell he went out of his way to set it up. My favorite thing about Charles Oliveira is that every time he gets a finish I'm left wishing I got to see what else he would've done if the fight went longer.

The more you knockdown Oliveira, the harder he comes at you. It’s like he charges up on the ground.
The way he followed him to take his back was incredibly impressive, after being dropped and taking hits and the high level of stress and the amount of things at stake for him he just made it look too easy
He wasn't "dropped". He plays possum like that in a lot of fights to get fighters to the ground, but Gaethje wasn't falling for it, which is why Oliveira ended up pulling guard. You can really tell that it's a possum move if you look at the different ways both Charles and Justin fell to the mat.
