This Jewish History lecture examines the Second Temple Period (Bayit Sheini), which spans from approximately the year -500 (or 500 BCE) to the theoretical year 0 (3260 to 3760 in the traditional Hebraic calendar).
The period is divisible into four distinct phases, named after whichever political power was in control of the Jewish People in the Land of Israel and the Temple in Jerusalem. These entities were:
    - The Persian (Achaemenid) Empire
    - The Hellenistic (Greek-based) dominions
    - The Hasmonean dynasty
    - The Rome Empire
Each of these phases includes several significant historical events or people that provide the keys to understanding the era as a whole. They were:
    PERSIAN
    - Zerubavel ben Sh'alti'el, Yehoshua ben Yehotzdak, and last of the prophets
    - Ezra and Nehemiah
    - The temple at Elephantine
    GREEK
    - Alexander the Great
    - The Ptolemaic and Seleucid dynasties
    - The translation of the Torah into Greek
    - Antiochus III and Antiochus IV
    HASMONEAN
    - Yehudah, Yonatan, Shimon, Yochanan Hyrkanus, Yehudah Aristobulous, Alexander Yannai, Shlomtziyon, Yochanan Hyrkanus II and Aristobulous II
    - The conversion of the Idumeans
    - The conflict between ‘Scribes’ and ‘Sadducees’ (Tzeduqim)
    ROME
    - Herod and Roman subservience
    - The reconstruction of the temple
    - Hillel
    - The rise of rabbinic leadership and the tradition of interpretation
    - The beginnings of political rebellion against Rome.
This is an edited lecture of the live talk given in 2020 for Chabad South Africa and Daminyan Shule in Melbourne. It is the first part of a six-part overview series of Jewish History that starts with the Second Temple Period and ends (at the beginning) with the Biblical Period.

OH. MY. GOODNESS FOR MR. DAVID S. I THANK THE LORD. G O D. For having the opportunity to learn Jewish history. I’m just so humbled to have the opportunity to learn. I pray I can be a sponge and learn all that I can from this wonderful God sent teacher yes I know it’s incorrect to put everything in caps but I’m so truthfully humbled and unbelievably grateful because Mr. DAVID does not have to do this, I’m sure the Lord let him to do this. God bless and thank you.

There is one important detail that you are not stating. The destruction of Israel by the Assyrians was a judgment of God. Also, the destruction of Judah by the Babylonians was a judgment of God. In each case, it was because they worshipped the heathen Gods of those kingdoms. That said, God had mercy on Israel and turned the heart of the Persian king to let them return.

Just bc he did not mention it does not mean that the area was not known by such name a/o similar names before. I’m not on either side of the present conflict, but I am about the truth. And, just bc people try to erase a people’s/area’s history/existence does by not talking about does not make it true. It’s up to us, as individuals to do our own research and confirm what we hear, regardless of the scholarly accomplishments of those saying things, regardless of whether we agree or disagree with what we find.

      @surfurdude THE TRUTH????
What truth???? You won't know the truth if it hits you in the face.
Religion is the worst invention that people came up with, and your religion is divisive, misogynistic, homophobic and criminal.. it calls for the obliteration of others... you think you are the chosen and your souls are better than the rest... I have news for you.. you are just like the rest of us... but... you have a godfather of a god with a lot of made-up history, starting with Moses, who most likely never existed...
Surferdude, I suggest you go and educate yourself a little about the myths, archeological finds, and the people who lived there in relation to each other, you're not going to find the absolute truth but you might just start doubting that there is such a truth.

I think that it is pure arrogance to say that Jesus is the Creator and he alone controls the world, thats your opinion based on your reformed Judaica Bible. Read Genesis it has been kept by christians yet it is entirely taken from the Jewish Bible. Read and you shall see that God is one not a trio. Kindly remember Jesus rather Jeshua was born a Jew lived, preached and died as a Jew and most of all he loved his people. He did not change a letter of the Bible, Paul of Tharsus also a Jew did most of the changing in order to encourage gentiles to convert. I respect your faith kindly respect mine.
