    This was very helpful. I am just beginning in portrait photography. I have mostly used myself and my 2yo as practice. But I have some others who I want to take portraits of but didn't know what to say or do. Thank you for this! I am definitely going to try these tips on my next session.

    Awesome BTS. Are you shooting in aperture priority considering you are shifting between direct sunlight and shade? Do you use spot metering in a scene like this? Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

    Hey Jana! What mode were you using, and also which metering mode? Where you using AI-Servo or single shot because I saw that you took some still and continuous shots. Also, sorry for a lot of questions, but did you use focus and recompose, or did you select the focus point in the camera, and which method is better? Thank you so much!

    Jana, this is one of your best tutorials ever. So helpful, since I thought portrait needs always a prime lense. One question: Are you shooting continous AF (Servo), especially when you are walking in front of your model?

    Jana how do you handle white balance? That had always been my biggest struggle. Do you use a preset,auto or Kelvin or do you do custom? I would love for you to do a video tutorial on white balance.

    Great tutorial, nice posing I like everything but I have just one recommendation. During the shoots were the model was moving forward you were focusing and recomposing during movement. That could potentially affects the focus plane, focus area plus losing the subject. That's not an accurate technique. Using a mirrorless camera with Eye Autofocus would have been a lot better since you don't have to ever recompose and lose track of the subject and in addition shoot at higher frame per seconds.

    • @MrHabro13
      @MrHabro13 Před 4 lety

      Meh she was maintaining roughly the same distance and shooting at 2.8 so the dof was like 40cm which is plenty (but yes mirrorless eye lock is the best)

    I hope you read this after 5 years. I noticed on some shots, you used the same settings for one photo, and then you only changed the shutter speed for the very next shot. But the results were the same. How does that work? For example, one shot was at 2.8, iso 100 shutter 1/600, then the very next shot, in the same place, was 2.8, iso 100 and shuter at 1/8000. How did the exposure turn out the same?

    • @JanaWilliams
      @JanaWilliams  Před rokem +1

      The reason the shutter speed changed and the exposer of the photo did not is because of the availble light. I also changed lenses from 70-200 to macro
