Athleticism is a premium in evaluating player potential. Athleticism also gives a player a tremendous advantage due to the ability to move faster, jump higher, and out muscle lesser athletic players. Having athleticism does not necessarily mean that you are or will be a great player. Athleticism also has to be used wisely within performance. Jumping high does not mean that you know how to elevate to shoot. Having speed does not mean you know how to break down the opposition off the dribble.

i have to say i don't agree with all those people who say that a pass first point guard can't lead a team...plus Ricky in Europe has been a very productive scorer, 9 points in 14 minutes in this game. He is extremely mature and chooses the right shots, not like Kobe or other great 'scorers' who shoot 30 a night and hit 12 or so of them...it is very natural for European players to be more aware of percentage basketball, .. i think Ricky is a future star nonetheless

Do what you can to win. If your teammates are not aggressive take over. Take over soundly. Take the best shots that put the put the pressure on the defense(off the drive. finishes. reverse pivot shots. pull up jumpshots). Never settle for what hte defense gives you. In actuality that is unsound. Defense sets and had superior rebounding and transition positioning when a team settles for jumpshots.
I have no reason to lie. I scout in this industry and have only been impressed with Rubio on a moderate level. He does have natural court vision and passing skills but he has serious flaws that need to be improved if he wants to be a productive player in the NBA. His shooting technique subpar in all stages. He has not shown any refined go to moves off the dribble(prerequisite for scorers). He has long arms but gambles too much on defense and has not shown the ability to play on ball defense
The no hand checking rule will help him offensively and hurt him defensively. He has the handle to break defenders down but he finishes flatfooted, has no driving pivot finish game, and no mid range game yet. Those are bad signs. Parker came to the US with that and it helped him tremendously. Could he develop it? Yes but until he does he will have issues finishing in the NBA. European players have had trouble finishing around the hoop for years except for Pau Gasol.
Also like I said has not shown a driving pivot finish game nor a mid range game which will be vital to his playmaking to counter the defense when they expect him to hit the open man. He does not have the size nor athleticism to finish over or around NBA on ball defenders or help defenders consistently yet due to watching him struggle with these skills in Europe against lesser competition. This skills will be vital for his success.
Could he improve? Yes but there is no absolute certainity that he will improve it to where 1. It is no longer a weakness 2. Improves other areas of his game 3. It cannot be countered by certain defensive strategies(physical play. bumping, stunting, rotations, etc.) Seen him make mistakes on the defensive end and in isolations that a player of his "calibur" should not make regardless of age especially if I.Q. is one of your strengths.
Do u realize that he is 18 years old?? there are many skinnier players in the NBA i don't know of any off the top of my head but this kid has the talent and poise to play USA ball...don't believe me? watch how he was playing in the Olympics especially against the USA, plays calm and doesn't get phased even by Americas best.
Proven fact that you can see from 82games dotcom. Most assists in the league occur 1 way off of 2 situations. The Kick out pass from help defense covering dribble penetration and double teaming the post. Bottom line is it requres drawing help due to a player that can create plays by himself.
I am not. The right pick was made. Evans is bigger, stronger, a better finisher, scorer and will be a better defender due to his size, length and quickness. Gives the Kings the most talented perimeter player they have had since Richmond. Arguably the biggest point guard in the league from day 1. His shot creating skills and size commands double teams, something else the Kings need more than a pass first point guard. Martin already stated he is giddy about playing with Evans in the Sac Bee.
Rubio is more refined as a pure point due to 1. playing on a professional team 2. playing in a national develop system. Wall is a better physical talent in pure play. The NBA is a team game and both could become good guards in the League. Wall is hailed as a Rose like player which in talent and style he is similiar. How often did Paul attempt to break Rubio down when Spain played a 2-3 zone for the entire game? They could not guard the US players 1 on 1. Did not have the talent except for Pau.
The problem with the American system is that we have no state and national standards for player development. There are too many kids, and too much bureacracy(parents, coaches, etc.) for this to happen. The AAU system does provide exposure but overplay burns players out and does not allow for skill development cultivation due to constant play over the last 25 years.
rubio is 17 and playing so well at an international level, that i can't believe it. and it's not playing for, say portugal... he's playing for f*****n spain, and really well. whoever doesn't realize what this means, doesn't know much about basketball. and just in case, i'd rather have him than jason kidd. he will get outmuscled my deron and CP, but how big were THEY at 17...?
The grassroots game(high school and below) has alot of prospects that could become NBA players when they mature but they need to grow up not. Lance Stephenson is a Lottery pick. So is Renardo Sidney, Demarcus Cousins, Derrick Favors, John Wall, Jordan Hamilton and Xavier Henry would all be drafted from the Lottery to late 1st round if they were eligible. Kenny Boynton likely not due to size and lack of point guard experience(NBA position by size despite being a primary scorer).
Would not say off the charts. Could be. Basketball I.Q. is more than within the team game. There is individual and corporate I.Q. on offense and defense within multiple situations. He has shown high I.Q. in some areas(passing, 2 man game, offensive system set up. some team defensive situations) questionable in others(isolations, sudden rotation reads, isolation defense).
NCAA basketball is a conundrum. The vast majority of world class talent is in the high major conferences yet the majority of those players have marginal careers in the NBA. A few excel and become stars and legends. Shows the difficulty to compete in the NBA season in and season out. There are over 4000 players in D1 another 3500-4000 in D2. How many of those players do you actually believe are good enough to play in the NBA?
Rubio could become a double digit assist passer in the League with the right players but can he score in the NBA consistently? Can he handle the contact without bulking up and possibly lose speed and quickness? Can he guard penetrating guards? Will he succumb to European transition problems? Can he carry a team by himself(true mark of a superstar)? This are few quesions that he has not answered so far.

Evaluatory judgement is part of the game. To separate average from good and good from great and great from special. If a person cannot handlethat they should not compete.
America has alot of talented prospects developing. Class of 2008 would hae had 4-6 high school entrants. Class of 07 10-12(See 2008 NBA draft freshman entry record). Beasley, Mayo, Rose, Gordan, Love, Singler, Walker, Greene, Bayless, Griffin, Jordan would have all been drafted. 2009 would have had at least 7. Another 4-6 in the class of 2010. America has more NBA ready high school age players than Europe does. Only Rubio would be drafted.
Rubio's shooting technique is subpar. Shoots flatfooted on set shots. Literally no mid range pull up game. Wrist technique curves on average attempts. Little eleveation on finishes(crucial to finish in the League unless the adopts Nash style finishses even then wil have to pick and choose when to finish. Nash is no primary finisher in the League either). He is skinny but there are numerous American players the same age and younger that if you did not know you would think they are grown men.
What are they looking at Rubio for to be? A European hope? A Euro Superstar in the NBA? Take a jab at the Americans? What? You guys are taking this too far. They are at least 10-12 kids in high school in the US right now that could play in the NBA if they were allowed to. Look at the Draft this past June. Record year for freshman entrant who should have been allowed to be drafted into the League out of high school. Everyone I mentioned would be drafted in the 09 draft if they could be.

Paul is a score and pass point guard equally. He could score 30 a night if need be but will do what is necessary to win. Nash is not a dominant scorer. Picks and chooses when to shoot due to system and knowledge of how to compete against superior athletes. Struggled in a traditional NBA offense.
He has the talent to become a dominant passer but there are holes in his game that have to be stated for proper evaluation. He is talented. Pass first point guards are rare but just passing the ball will not win ball games. Guards need to be able score in bursts and stretches when sets break down under 6 seconds on the shot clock. Guards have to challenge their oppositions offensive set up to minimize rhythm and coordinate the perimeter defense in conjunction witht he interior help.
Wish he could play in the Nike Youth Summit with the other kids his age. Give him a slight taste(not grown men but NBA calibure and potential players) of what he will face in the NBA after Wall burns him several straight times down the floor off the dribble. Nash is not an elite athlete but played his best basketball in a system that placed him best where 1. He could dominate the ball and distribute as he saw fit 2. would not be accountable on defense. Nash is skilled but is not the most talented point guard in the League. Barely top 10. Efficiency is his strength. He stated himself that if everyone worked as hard as him he would be out of job. Also stated that if he played Marbury 1 on 1 10 times that Marbury would kill him every time.

Kidd would be the more accurate comparison. Kid is bigger, stronger and superior athletically. Their playing styles are similiar. Neither can shoot well. Exceptional vision and desire to meke passes.

No one has wanted to leave home. Jennings is the 1st one to do it. There is no team in Europe that would not take Renardo Sidney or Lance Stephenson if they decide to skip college and play in Europe for a year. They are both ready to start in the NBA right now. Check out Rivalsdotcom or Scoutdotcom. There may be a great European player every 5-10 years. He played in the Olympics at 17. Impressive. But he only made a quarter of his shots(8-32). He does not have any refiend moves off the dribble and his shooting is subpar. Stated that he is a talented ball handler and passer but the NBA game is different. Players are bigger, faster, stronger and considerably more talented.
Looks like the next Jason Kidd, with a more graceful game but without the strong build. I could easily see him leading the NBA in assists in a few years.
Only 60 could be drafted and 100 on average are considered actually for the draft and free agency that season regardless of class. Most NCAA players are not good enough to create their own shots facing or posting up nor could defend on the ball in isolations on the NBA level. Look at the weak crop of prospects this year. Only a few are considered possible stars(Griffin, Monroe, Harden, Rubio, Evans, Warren, etc.)
Not seen him play exceptional positional defense yet. Scouting reports echo the same statement. Consistent ball hawker(steals the ball) but does not have sound defenisve footork. Tell me this: How do you believe he will do guarding the best point guards in the world on a weekly basis for 6-8 months for 30-40 minutes a night. Chris Paul one night, Deron Williams another, Jason Kidd, Baron Davis, Stephon Marbury, Tony Parker, Derrick Rose, Arenas, etc Sometimes shooting guards like Kobe and Wade.
Dont need a ton of assists. Just draw help. That is more importantt. Evans will do that. I was at the draft party at Arco in June. Half the crowd wanted Rubio. The other Evans. I am glad they picked Evans. Have been a fan of his since his sophomore year of high school. Dominate talent with superstar potential.
The European system is focused on development. European nations on average do not have the bureaucratic problems that the US has and have a deeper sense of nationalism which carries into national life from the political level down to activities such as youth and club basketball. We as Americans are still too divided on too many issues imporant and not as important to fully function as we should despite our cultural and industrial differences.

Taking alot of shots is not selifsh unless it is done clearly against your teammates. Lebron James averages 20 shots a game but is called a team player. Take good shots where you are have the advantage not the defense. Pass when you get doubled and draw rotations. Penetration is the most dangerous threat to a defense. Proven fact. Ball hogging is not passing and shooting without regard for the team. Taking good shots that help the team win is not selfish.
Evans requires defensive commitment from multiple defenders. Rubio does not. Evans has already shown his willingness to make plays. He brings 2 of the central star calibur talents needed to be a star in the NBA. 1. Ability to create plays in under 6 seconds. Evans specialty is creating shots off the dribble. 2. Command double teams and help. No PG in the league can cover Evans 1 on 1. Too big, too strong, with too great a handle. His aggressiveness to the hole makes it even harder to defend him.
You are forgetting the defenses that NBA players face and the adjustments they create their presence on the floor. The shooting argument is not strong concerning the NBA since Kobe and other players like him create many mismatch problems, requires multiple adjustments, and can take over a game at a given time. No player in Europe right now has this ability at an NBA level. Not Rubio, no one.

Starters Jeremy Tyler 6'9 240 (1#; 2010) Renardo Sidney 6'10 240(Top 5; 2009) Xavier Henry 6'7 215(3#; 2009) Lance Stephenson 6'5 215(Top 10#; 2009) John Wall 6'4 190(1#; 2009) These kids are all physicall superior to Rubio with far more potential. Wall would blow by him at will. Sidney, Tyler, Stephenson and Henry could all become franchise player in the League. Check the evalutions.
I did not say Wall was a good shooter. He is below average but has improved over the year and technique wise is more sound than Rubio right now. Does that mean he will be better in 5 years? No but right now he is slightly better in technique and as a shooter off the dribble. How many guards are athletic as Wall? He is faster than Rose and just a 1.5 inches less off his vertical leap. Wall is a exceptional draw and dish passer that commands defensive rotations due to constant drives.
Passing skills are vision are not in question. 43% in ACB? How many attempts? Under what situations? How consistent? Streaks? Bursts? Yeah Euroleague defenders are not NBA level defenders on average in size, athleticism and pure talent. Littered with players that are either past their primes or could not make it in the NBA. Euroleague big men are fundmaentally sound offensively but how many stoppers come out that league? How many other than Gasol hasve resonable defense?
The Nash comparison is slightly off. Nash is a far superior shooter. D'Antoni's system also made Nash look better than he actually is. Good player but not an MVP talent. Won the awards on technical circumstances(team system). Rubio could be good if used as a pass first point guard that has help on defense to cover for him. If he plays for a subpar team he will get eaten alive on defense by quick guards and will struggle to score. He has not shown the skills to score in the League.

Ball hogging is greatly misunderstood in the modern game. Passing for alot of assists is not necessarily the characteristic of a good teammate either. Marbury and Iverson averaged 7+ assists for most of their careers but are clearly selfish players. Talk to your coach about it.

I suggest you take a look at new reports. His abilities are now being questioned. I questioned them before. Playing in Europe and playing in the NBA are 2 different games in 2 different environments. The players are more athletic and more talented simple as that. Rubio has not shown the abilitity(as of yet) to score at the NBA level individually or corporately. Scoring 51 in a Russian game is not scoring against the Spurs or Celtics. The level of talent is drastically different.
Really how so? They are as big as an NBA team and just as athletic even though they are kids. No one in Europe can stay in front of Wall one on one. Tyler is a beast inside that can hit the 20 footer. Sidney can take you inside and outside and shoot the NBA 3 at 6'10. Henry is a Kobe clone. Stephenson is compared to Lebron James but shorter. Actually support your argumetn with evidence. I have in multiple posts. Rubio is a subpar shooter with no range and subpar scoring ability. No refined Go To moves in the mid range, around the basket or from deep. He is an exceptional ball handler and passer which could make him a solid pass first point guard in the League but in the NBA the modern point guards have to be able to score. He has only shown that against 2nd rate competition.

Rubio is a lottery pick but his status is uncertain. Like I stated but apparently you have not read he has talent but he is no sure shot star in this League. His age is cop out and a weak excuse. @Canonall He's only 21 and in his first season on a bad team playing only 23-24mins he's doing well for himself. As soon as he gets a bit more used to the NBA play he'll be very good. He even said himself that he finds it easier to distribute the ball and make good plays because they dnt really play zone defense in NBA. Im not a huge Ricky fan but I feel he's getting too much stick from everyone.
Look at the NBA over the last 20 years since Divac. Only a handful have been truly productive players and most of them are 1 dimensional(Petrovic, Nowitzki, Radja, Marcilounis, etc.) Majority are busts that have no impact(Bargnani, Saskivicius, etc.) A few are versatile and have impact(Gasol. Sabonis(Past his prime when he arrived)). Rubio has talent but I do not see a star. Even in Euroleague he does not put up dominant numbers. He could be a Nash like player(style) but a star is uncertain.
Pass first point guards are overrated anyways. Especially when you look at the most successful guards in the NBA. All score the ball extrememly well and finish. Even the so called Pass first guards(Nash, Kidd) can create off the dribble and finish. Nash is one of the best shooters in the league. Paul is a 20+PPG scorer. Williams is right there at 19. Davis. Younger Marbury. Iverson. Parker. Rose is developing into 1. Rondo could score more if he did not have the stars on his team.
Sorry, no. That is a cliche. You do not score with a pass. You transition posessions with passing. That is the talent less team rhetoric that distorts player development. Passing is useful to function a team offense but it is proven that dribble penetration is the most dangerous threat to a defense in basketball. This is 1 reason why the Drubble Drive offense has become so popular. You can pass all you want if you do not have the skill to create space and the hit the shot it will mean nothing.
He is a exceptional ball hawker on defense, but can he make consistent sound fundamental stops? Not seen that yet. No elevation on any of his shots. Has length but subpar athleticism. Many of the NBAs most athletic players are point guards. Can he compete with that? Look at Nash as great as he is offensively he struggles often on defense unless he lays off players individually. No reverse pivot moves either. Rubio is talented but I am sorry I would take I have seen better at the same age.
Kidd improved but is still marginal in some situations by attempt and situation compared to truly great shooters. Marions is a overachieving 2nd tier player with subpar ball skills and a great motor. Barry peaked after his rookie year. No wher near the level of his father, Rick Barry. Briliant scorer in this day. 40% is not bad it is solid but the Euroleague line is shorter and also shooters are not under the pressure that NBA shooters are under on average. Defenders close out alot faster.

Euroleague big men are weak on the ball. Most are help defenders at best. Majority have no lift off the ground with above average core strength at best. Marc Gasol is 1 of the few that has solid strength. Bargnani is a prime example. Cant cover post down low with his subpar strength and torse width and does not have the footspeed and footwork on defense to guard skilled and athletic bigs.
Seen too many European stars that were suppose to be NBA stars. Kukoc was in the same predicament that Rubio was in back in 90. Sound player but not the player that scouts thought he would be. Nowitizki is an All Star but has serious flaws. Bargnani is a bust. Rubio could be good but cannot call him a superstar yet. Pampered in the Euroleague and has not faced superior players and athletes on a consistent basis.

He has the handle to break defenders down but he finishes flatfooted, has no driving pivot finish game, and no mid range game yet. Those are bad signs. Parker came to the US with that and it helped him tremendously. Could he develop it? Yes but until he does he will have issues finishing in the NBA. European players have had trouble finishing around the hoop for years except for Pau Gasol.
Also like I said has not shown a driving pivot finish game nor a mid range game which will be vital to his playmaking to counter the defense when they expect him to hit the open man. He does not have the size nor athleticism to finish over or around NBA on ball defenders or help defenders consistently yet due to watching him struggle with these skills in Europe against lesser competition. This skills will be vital for his success.
Could he improve? Yes but there is no absolute certainity that he will improve it to where 1. It is no longer a weakness 2. Improves other areas of his game 3. It cannot be countered by certain defensive strategies(physical play. bumping, stunting, rotations, etc.) Seen him make mistakes on the defensive end and in isolations that a player of his "calibur" should not make regardless of age especially if I.Q. is one of your strengths.

I am not. The right pick was made. Evans is bigger, stronger, a better finisher, scorer and will be a better defender due to his size, length and quickness. Gives the Kings the most talented perimeter player they have had since Richmond. Arguably the biggest point guard in the league from day 1. Guys like Chris Paul were playing at 17 against there own age. Ricky Rubio is 17 playing in Spain against people older and some twice his age.
The problem with the American system is that we have no state and national standards for player development. There are too many kids, and too much bureacracy(parents, coaches, etc.) for this to happen. The AAU system does provide exposure but overplay burns players out and does not allow for skill development cultivation due to constant play over the last 25 years.

The grassroots game(high school and below) has alot of prospects that could become NBA players when they mature but they need to grow up not. Lance Stephenson is a Lottery pick. So is Renardo Sidney, Demarcus Cousins, Derrick Favors, John Wall, Jordan Hamilton and Xavier Henry would all be drafted from the Lottery to late 1st round if they were eligible. Kenny Boynton likely not due to size and lack of point guard experience(NBA position by size despite being a primary scorer).
Would not say off the charts. Could be. Basketball I.Q. is more than within the team game. There is individual and corporate I.Q. on offense and defense within multiple situations. He has shown high I.Q. in some areas(passing, 2 man game, offensive system set up. some team defensive situations) questionable in others(isolations, sudden rotation reads, isolation defense).
NCAA basketball is a conundrum. The vast majority of world class talent is in the high major conferences yet the majority of those players have marginal careers in the NBA. A few excel and become stars and legends. Shows the difficulty to compete in the NBA season in and season out. There are over 4000 players in D1 another 3500-4000 in D2. How many of those players do you actually believe are good enough to play in the NBA?

America has alot of talented prospects developing. Class of 2008 would hae had 4-6 high school entrants. Class of 07 10-12(See 2008 NBA draft freshman entry record). Beasley, Mayo, Rose, Gordan, Love, Singler, Walker, Greene, Bayless, Griffin, Jordan would have all been drafted. 2009 would have had at least 7. Another 4-6 in the class of 2010. America has more NBA ready high school age players than Europe does. Only Rubio would be drafted.
Rubio's shooting technique is subpar. Shoots flatfooted on set shots. Literally no mid range pull up game. Wrist technique curves on average attempts. Little eleveation on finishes(crucial to finish in the League unless the adopts Nash style finishses even then wil have to pick and choose when to finish. Nash is no primary finisher in the League either). He is skinny but there are numerous American players the same age and younger that if you did not know you would think they are grown men.
What are they looking at Rubio for to be? A European hope? A Euro Superstar in the NBA? Take a jab at the Americans? What? You guys are taking this too far. They are at least 10-12 kids in high school in the US right now that could play in the NBA if they were allowed to. Look at the Draft this past June. Record year for freshman entrant who should have been allowed to be drafted into the League out of high school. Everyone I mentioned would be drafted in the 09 draft if they could be.
The thing about pass first point guards, they need players in order to function properly. How many pass first point guards have you seen carry teams with no scorers and defenders helping them? Paul is a score and pass point guard equally. He could score 30 a night if need be but will do what is necessary to win. Nash is not a dominant scorer. Picks and chooses when to shoot due to system and knowledge of how to compete against superior athletes. Struggled in a traditional NBA offense.

He has the talent to become a dominant passer but there are holes in his game that have to be stated for proper evaluation. He is talented. Pass first point guards are rare but just passing the ball will not win ball games. Guards need to be able score in bursts and stretches when sets break down under 6 seconds on the shot clock. Guards have to challenge their oppositions offensive set up to minimize rhythm and coordinate the perimeter defense in conjunction witht he interior help.
Wish he could play in the Nike Youth Summit with the other kids his age. Give him a slight taste(not grown men but NBA calibure and potential players) of what he will face in the NBA after Wall burns him several straight times down the floor off the dribble. Nash is not an elite athlete but played his best basketball in a system that placed him best where 1. He could dominate the ball and distribute as he saw fit 2. would not be accountable on defense. Nash is skilled but is not the most talented point guard in the League. Barely top 10. Efficiency is his strength. He stated himself that if everyone worked as hard as him he would be out of job. Also stated that if he played Marbury 1 on 1 10 times that Marbury would kill him every time.

Check out Rivalsdotcom or Scoutdotcom. There may be a great European player every 5-10 years. He played in the Olympics at 17. Impressive. But he only made a quarter of his shots(8-32). He does not have any refiend moves off the dribble and his shooting is subpar. Stated that he is a talented ball handler and passer but the NBA game is different. Players are bigger, faster, stronger and considerably more talented.

Only 60 could be drafted and 100 on average are considered actually for the draft and free agency that season regardless of class. Most NCAA players are not good enough to create their own shots facing or posting up nor could defend on the ball in isolations on the NBA level. Look at the weak crop of prospects this year. Only a few are considered possible stars(Griffin, Monroe, Harden, Rubio, Evans, Warren, etc.)

The European system is focused on development. European nations on average do not have the bureaucratic problems that the US has and have a deeper sense of nationalism which carries into national life from the political level down to activities such as youth and club basketball. We as Americans are still too divided on too many issues imporant and not as important to fully function as we should despite our cultural and industrial differences.

Taking alot of shots is not selifsh unless it is done clearly against your teammates. Lebron James averages 20 shots a game but is called a team player. Take good shots where you are have the advantage not the defense. Pass when you get doubled and draw rotations. Penetration is the most dangerous threat to a defense. Proven fact. Ball hogging is not passing and shooting without regard for the team. Taking good shots that help the team win is not selfish.
Evans requires defensive commitment from multiple defenders. Rubio does not. Evans has already shown his willingness to make plays. He brings 2 of the central star calibur talents needed to be a star in the NBA. 1. Ability to create plays in under 6 seconds. Evans specialty is creating shots off the dribble. 2. Command double teams and help. No PG in the league can cover Evans 1 on 1. Too big, too strong, with too great a handle. His aggressiveness to the hole makes it even harder to defend him.

You are forgetting the defenses that NBA players face and the adjustments they create their presence on the floor. The shooting argument is not strong concerning the NBA since Kobe and other players like him create many mismatch problems, requires multiple adjustments, and can take over a game at a given time. No player in Europe right now has this ability at an NBA level. Not Rubio, no one.

I did not say Wall was a good shooter. He is below average but has improved over the year and technique wise is more sound than Rubio right now. Does that mean he will be better in 5 years? No but right now he is slightly better in technique and as a shooter off the dribble. How many guards are athletic as Wall? He is faster than Rose and just a 1.5 inches less off his vertical leap. Wall is a exceptional draw and dish passer that commands defensive rotations due to constant drives.
Passing skills are vision are not in question. 43% in ACB? How many attempts? Under what situations? How consistent? Streaks? Bursts? Yeah Euroleague defenders are not NBA level defenders on average in size, athleticism and pure talent. Littered with players that are either past their primes or could not make it in the NBA. Euroleague big men are fundmaentally sound offensively but how many stoppers come out that league? How many other than Gasol hasve resonable defense?

The Nash comparison is slightly off. Nash is a far superior shooter. D'Antoni's system also made Nash look better than he actually is. Good player but not an MVP talent. Won the awards on technical circumstances(team system). Rubio could be good if used as a pass first point guard that has help on defense to cover for him. If he plays for a subpar team he will get eaten alive on defense by quick guards and will struggle to score. He has not shown the skills to score in the League.

Ball hogging is greatly misunderstood in the modern game. Passing for alot of assists is not necessarily the characteristic of a good teammate either. Marbury and Iverson averaged 7+ assists for most of their careers but are clearly selfish players. Talk to your coach about it.

I suggest you take a look at new reports. His abilities are now being questioned. I questioned them before. Playing in Europe and playing in the NBA are 2 different games in 2 different environments. The players are more athletic and more talented simple as that. Rubio has not shown the abilitity(as of yet) to score at the NBA level individually or corporately. Scoring 51 in a Russian game is not scoring against the Spurs or Celtics. The level of talent is drastically different.

Actually support your argumetn with evidence. I have in multiple posts. Rubio is a subpar shooter with no range and subpar scoring ability. No refined Go To moves in the mid range, around the basket or from deep. He is an exceptional ball handler and passer which could make him a solid pass first point guard in the League but in the NBA the modern point guards have to be able to score. He has only shown that against 2nd rate competition.

Rubio is a lottery pick but his status is uncertain. Like I stated but apparently you have not read he has talent but he is no sure shot star in this League. His age is cop out and a weak excuse. @Canonall He's only 21 and in his first season on a bad team playing only 23-24mins he's doing well for himself. As soon as he gets a bit more used to the NBA play he'll be very good. He even said himself that he finds it easier to distribute the ball and make good plays because they dnt really play zone defense in NBA.

Look at the NBA over the last 20 years since Divac. Only a handful have been truly productive players and most of them are 1 dimensional(Petrovic, Nowitzki, Radja, Marcilounis, etc.) Majority are busts that have no impact(Bargnani, Saskivicius, etc.) A few are versatile and have impact(Gasol. Sabonis(Past his prime when he arrived)). Rubio has talent but I do not see a star. Even in Euroleague he does not put up dominant numbers. He could be a Nash like player(style) but a star is uncertain.
Pass first point guards are overrated anyways. Especially when you look at the most successful guards in the NBA. All score the ball extrememly well and finish. Even the so called Pass first guards(Nash, Kidd) can create off the dribble and finish. Nash is one of the best shooters in the league. Paul is a 20+PPG scorer. Williams is right there at 19. Davis. Younger Marbury. Iverson. Parker. Rose is developing into 1. Rondo could score more if he did not have the stars on his team.

Sorry, no. That is a cliche. You do not score with a pass. You transition posessions with passing. That is the talent less team rhetoric that distorts player development. Passing is useful to function a team offense but it is proven that dribble penetration is the most dangerous threat to a defense in basketball. This is 1 reason why the Drubble Drive offense has become so popular. You can pass all you want if you do not have the skill to create space and the hit the shot it will mean nothing.
Settled shots, deep fadeaways and multi defender contested shots shouuld be avoided. Attack the defense. Make them take what you want to give them.

Barry peaked after his rookie year. No wher near the level of his father, Rick Barry. Briliant scorer in this day. 40% is not bad it is solid but the Euroleague line is shorter and also shooters are not under the pressure that NBA shooters are under on average. Defenders close out alot faster.

Euroleague big men are weak on the ball. Most are help defenders at best. Majority have no lift off the ground with above average core strength at best. Marc Gasol is 1 of the few that has solid strength. Bargnani is a prime example. Cant cover post down low with his subpar strength and torse width and does not have the footspeed and footwork on defense to guard skilled and athletic bigs.
Seen too many European stars that were suppose to be NBA stars. Kukoc was in the same predicament that Rubio was in back in 90. Sound player but not the player that scouts thought he would be. Nowitizki is an All Star but has serious flaws. Bargnani is a bust. Rubio could be good but cannot call him a superstar yet. Pampered in the Euroleague and has not faced superior players and athletes on a consistent basis.
