SELLING EXCLUSIVES for MONEY!!! Huge Problem OR Is This Okay?⁂ Watcher of Realms

  • Watcher of Realms took ANOTHER STEP DEEPER into Pay To Win today. As of this morning, the game is directly selling exclusive artifacts in the shop for cash. What do you guys think about this? Today it is Zilitu's artifact for 50 bucks. Tomorrow it could be Hex's. And who knows? Are we on the path towards Praetus being sold in the shop? There is a fine line company's must ride when determining how much to monetized this game. I think this is a step too far. Let me know what you guys think! Enjoy :D

I think there is one small piece of the puzzle that you might be missing, or at least overlooking. The main reason I quit Raid was because I was spending lots of money, much of it on 'guaranteed' stuff, but I still ran into a brick wall and couldn't advance. There are always two components to keeping a game like this alive and thriving, one is available content for you to continually aspire too, but the other even more major component is the ability to feel like you can advance to that content. Once you hit a wall and feel you can't overcome it, eventually you are going to quit, and I would say for the majority of players, that happens sooner than running out of viable new content. I've spent more money on the game than I was planning on, but I've now hit a wall. I can't advance to the hardest content because RNG just hates me. I would imagine that there are quite a few people in the same predicament. The price is something even I wouldn't pay for, even if it was Hex's artifact because it is way too high, but eventually, if I feel I can't advance anymore, regardless of spending money or not, it will lead me to quitting. They already do directly sell heroes, they have for a long time, with the faction packs, just who you get is random between a few different heroes. It might go over a bit better if it was a random artifact from a select pool, (could rotate every time, with one option being one of the 'better' ones.) I don't see that being any different really than selling the hero faction packs. Regardless, I don't think this will 'kill' the game, they should probably just tweak it. But that is just my opinion from someone who has absolute terrible RNG in this game...

Thought of you when I saw that. I'm all in for them to sell stuff so the game stays alive, but there's nothing more pay to win than selling specific gear like that and in the long run, I believe it hurts the game more.

Fasti my man! I woke up, saw the pack, and had to do a double take. The kind of double take that is normally reserved for an exceptional deal. Problem was, the double take was not due to the quality of the deal, but rather the principle behind it.
I'm probably safely in the whale category, but nowhere near kraken territory. I've been playing gachas for close to ten years now and I agree with you 100%.
The core of the gacha experience is RNG. Everything is predicated on having a *chance* at getting something, whether it's Prince Kymar (who I never got after 4 years, lol), Praetus, a quad speed sub piece, an ancient with optimal main/sub stats, or a specific exclusive artifact.
People need something to chase, whether they spend money to support the game or not. The sooner people *feel* like there's nothing to chase or no way to progress, the sooner they consider moving on to a more engaging experience. Selling specific, exclusive items is a very dangerous precedent. I hope Moonton reconsiders this decision for the long-term health of the game.

So in their feedback questionnaire I answered, I had made mention of them needing to adjust what we are getting from AMR. By the time we can clear 18 to solely farm to pull on the mythic forge it should be 80% for mythic artifacts and 20% chance for legendary. We should NOT have any chance at getting epic artifacts. Literally no one is needing anything but mythics and exclusives. Also for the gleaming meteorites WHY is it the same chance to get legendary as it is for exclusives in the exclusive forge???? The amount of gleaming meteorites we can get is severely gated and I would be fine if the rate was 80% mythic and 20% exclusive artifacts OR make it 70-30%? The 20-30% chance you get an exclusive isn't even going to be useful probably 99% of the time because you need to be lucky in getting them for legendary heroes you have. And even then not all of them are BiS. Even at 70-80% chance of only getting mythic artifacts some are still bad. Some are god tier. It still takes a HUGE amount of mythril to upgrade them to max and you still need to pull exactly what you need for dupes to slot in on your best dps or healers.
I have roughly spent 120k stamina solely on AMR 18. I haven't seen a single wailing skull. I have a single scarab and a single euphoric orb. I have 2 Tears and 4 siphon artifacts. Yes this isn't that vast compared to a lot of the long time players but it doesn't feel good. My time/stamina don't feel respected when pulling for artifacts with very high odds to get legendary and epic artifacts when they are useless to me at this point. I have the few legendary+epic artifacts that I "need" at max. I would rather have to farm AMR for mythril to max artifacts and have that gate me than being gated by not being able to pull on a diluted pool of mythics and exclusives. A lot of what is "walling" me for content feels like it is entirely gear and artifacts. I have cleared GR1+GR3 on 21. GR2 is my least favourite and annoying to do so I haven't put as much effort into it but I still have GR2-20 cleared. But it feels really really bad spending 1000-1500 stamina a day on farming gear to not even get a single ancient for numerous days and maybe keeping 1-3 pieces if they have good stats and roll well. If they don't roll well but have BiS stats I keep them for the once in a blue moon hammer I pick up to roll the dice on rolling them to have better stats. Then on the same hand spending that much stamina in AMR 18 and getting literally 0 good artifacts because you pull one mythic and its something like a bastion ring, astral obelisk or a regal crest which has 0 impact in the majority of all content available because if your dps do enough damage your tanks don't need to be "tanky" because everything dies before they do. Currently I am spending one day of stamina on a gear raid then AMR then gear raid and so on so forth. (Its just for the sanity I think because spending 5 days worth of stamina on one specific thing and getting nothing feels worse than spreading it out.)
I love the game I love the grind but I think they could lessen the grind just the smallest amount at least regarding mythic artifacts for players at all stages of the game. It wouldn't affect those already at the "endgame" where you're no longer worried about getting 50k blood in a single run but now pushing for personal best blood in your guild/world. You're at the point where clearing content is a passive thing, you have the heroes to do everything available or are hunting specific ones which is just the gacha chase that will always be here.
Maybe this is just a cooked take from someone who is mostly a minnow in terms of spending but currently I log in max stamina grind a Gear raid or AMR or I split my stam to do half and half with both options yielding next to nothing. (My spending is entirely on stamina in order to try and farm as much as possible.) I currently average 30k blood in NM4 per run. Not seriously concerned with hitting 50k because it is all just gear/artifacts walling me. And I know eventually I will get there. I'm sure there are some very long time playing F2P people out there feeling this frustration and adding artifacts to the shop won't even affect them but it might make it feel worse for them? This is sort of feedback that ties in to your question and concern on the topic. I don't know if you agree with some/all of this or anyone else does but if people do and you would like to use any of this comment as feedback and take parts of this that people largely agree with please feel free to pass any of it on and get this talked about.

To be honest, at this point DHS feels even more p2w, than WoR. You've got very little stamina and almost no way of replenishing it, other than buying it from the shop for wyrmarrow, overall progression is tedious and poorly thought out (you need to have at least 2 fully built teams just to farm upgrade materials from elemental domains), and the seasonal system just doesn't work, especially after new update, that changed 1 season, but left seasons 2 & 3 players with nothing, no new content, no changes implemented in season 1, nothing. So, overall, DHS just wants you to grind every 3 months all of your progression over and over again without any significant changes to how you actually play/

  • @amos5970
    @amos5970 Před měsícem

I think many have a skewed opinion of this. There are two resources people can put into this game, time or money. Both are used to get things in game. Time gets (earns) rewards by doing daily quests, completing events, or creating guides and videos about the game. Money gets (purchases) rewards such as rare/ancient summons, stamina, etc. Both are ways to get resources (gear/heroes) and progress to end game. Aside from a few skins, I don't think either way has something that isn't possible to get the other way. I don't think that someone who has money to spend is worse than someone who has time to spend. And I certainly don't think getting something sooner is going to cause someone to quit sooner. If that were the case, then the same argument could be made for the person who gets lucky and manages to craft the artifact the first week they complete nightmare void rift. Should we not allow someone to craft artifacts for a certain amount of time then? Or maybe once they craft one there should be a timer before they could craft the same one again? From my perspective, if there is money coming into the game, that is a partial guarantee that the game will continue. There is no guarantee that someone who is grinding after anything will stick around and help the game continue. It's like the old saying, a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.
I think the opposite side of the coin to your argument could be, what if someone can't get lucky or can't purchase a certain item. Wouldn't that make them quit the game sooner?
Not saying my outlook is fully correct, just saying I don't see a lot of comments where people take it into perspective. Most seem to be a knee jerk reaction against monetizing this specific thing.

  • @buzzsawkhan
    @buzzsawkhan Před měsícem

Hmm. I certainly see your point, the only thing is that, and please correct me if I'm wrong, there is no "pity" system for exclusive artifacts, right? With the 40 (guessing) exclusive artifacts that exist, that means that there is a tiny chance for you to get specific character's exclusive. Now, the price point is crazy, but being able to shortcut a grind that has no specific end? It doesn't really bother me that much.
Let's put it differently: suppose that when you get a legendary to 6* ascension/level 60 you got a quest from a visiting hero that rewarded the exclusive. That would even more clearly devalue the artifct value as something "won," but it doesn't seem anywhere as objectionable.
As for the general point about selling heroes, it should be noted that many gatcha games will have a pity system where you can garuntee specific characters with enough pulls. That said, those are games like HSR, that are really about story, PVP or so on.

  • @raqciti430
    @raqciti430 Před měsícem

A majority of gacha games ive played have gone this route exactly. From gear to character's, they will sell you average to above average quality items to help players feel as if they're catching up or closing the power scale between them and their competition.
It doesn't benefit the company to directly sell extrmeley OP units or gear (Praetus, Valderon, Silas, Hex Arti) because no matter the price, the average cost of resources / time spent playing the game to pull these rare items and units will outweigh whatever price tag they place on that particular sale.
There will be a point in the future where even the current OP units will be power crept. Where your SSS tier unit is now only a A+ to S tier due to the new character releases and harder content. At that point, it would make sense for them to have direct purchase sales for said units and items.
This Zil arti is the equivalent (probably less) of them selling you a Salazar up front. Its like... cool? But you're not a whole heck of a lot of change to your account with that.
Now as you said. The minute they come out with a Praetus or Silas pack, while they are still the cream of the crop top tier units, then we all have an issue. And whoever directs sales for the company should be fired, because people are willing to pump hundreds if not thousands just to gamble at the chance of possibly getting those quality of units.

I totally agree with you. Purchasing more chances to get something is 100% different than just straight up purchasing the item itself. The whole RNG thing is what kind of equalizes the whales and the F2P players. The idea is everyone has equal chances to get something, whales should just be able to separate themselves from the F2P players by purchasing more chances at that RNG. Just my opinion though.

I started my "gacha" journey with Marvel Strike Force and a bit of SWGoH and that style where you can pretty much buy characters when they come out. Lego, I ran the ill fated Lord of the Rings game journey. This is the first one I've done where it's more of a lottery/slot machine rather than grinding nodes for character shards or "if you have enough money, you can have everything." I really enjoy this method. You can be the luckiest person in the world and snag one of these killer characters and have a blast. I got Arrogance on like my 3rd summon and he's carried me hard up to the plateau I'm at right now. I got Hex within the next week and I'm freakin' pumped. In the other style, I'd probably have to pay for them or grind his material node for months. When people pull a Silas.....that is freaking amazing. I guess I like this style better because you have to do the best you can with what you have and not paying for success.

No, this is unequivocally fucked up. cosmetics should be it. It's insane that they aren't shitting out cosmetics for every hero left and right. They miss out so much on a healthy stream of income, and instead take away drop percentages from summons. Their priorities are just fucked.

I think thats why they do it, because spenders will at one point be like no, I'm not spending anymore because I've spent x amount of money and the RNG fricked me over, and it can be a massive deterrent to people who do spend that they aren't actually guaranteed anything through spending masses of money and keeping the game afloat, we basically all accept your summons are always going to be RNG dependant but other elements, id be mad as hell if I spent £2000 over the course of playing and got nothing for it. They will always lean towards spenders because at the end of the day they allow the game to run, but as long as they don't ever sell anything that impacts gameplay that can't be farmed in someway then im like make your money and bring us content

I'd rather have meteorite packs and Artifact events where there is a higher chance of getting a certain exclusive artifact. People will spend on those packs to increase their chances of getting said artifact. Some will spend a little, some will spend a lot. But, it keeps the RNG there and doesn't cliff face the artifacts behind a given spending point.

Thanks for the mother's day wishes! And as someone who can't do NM void rift at all and can't complete hard I don't get very many chances to make the exclusives so I'd probably buy a really good artifact like Hex's. Just like if they sold a pack with a Vierna or Khamet I'd likely buy that too because RNG has not been on my side. If I'm going to spend money at all on the game I'm much more likely to spend it on something that is guaranteed. Is that kind of thing good for the game? I dunno. It might keep me playing longer because it would allow me to progress. But if I continue as I am, pulling the same crap and useless leggos and getting nothing to help me progress I will just get frustrated and quit.

Arguably, if the price was 1 $ per your example, I think it would be worst then if it was 100$. But I 100% agree with you it shouldn't be in the game no matter the price. The problem also is that it's a first step into a direction that makes the game worst for most players. Let's hope it is not the beginning of a new tradition. Oh and also, there is a difference between raising your chances of gaining gear by buying energy, it is still RNG in the end but here you get X gear for Y amount of money. It's to specific of a transaction, which makes it worse imo. Plus like you said, when players buy deals like this then they no longer have long term goals to aspire to and the game become stale indeed. This is no bueno but at least it's not an issue for those who don't pay for deals like this one.

The thing to understand is... As long as non P2W players are able to farm their way to the same point as P2W players then it's OK, the P2W thing just helps people speed up to endgame. But the moment there becomes a clear separation between P2W players and F2P (even with long-term grinding), that's where they start to alienate their playerbase and the game population steadily declines. For F2P players the carrot has to be dangled, even if it's a long-ass journey to get there

@@fastidious_gg I think people take their own fun from it, so, for some people they find the enjoyment at being competitive at the top level (or maybe rolling over all the lesser competition) but they don't want the long game/grind to get there - that's a sentiment I can understand but I don't share, I've been in the position you mentioned about where it sucks the fun out of the game and you end up quitting because of that (WoW private servers springs to mind), for me personally I take a lot more enjoyment and value from the long-term earning of something, overcoming those obstacles on the way. Others may not feel the same way, and a lot of them will drop off as you mentioned. Others may stay on, it's personal preference at that point buuuuut I do think it starts to become a slippery slope. The moment they start locking things behind a paywall, that's where it becomes a death sentence for a game

$50 USD ?! REALLY? No thanks. It's an artifact. A digital download of a piece of a character. This is BOGUS. $5 YES. $10 Maybe. Anything else THE GREED IS REAL. I agree with you on the skins. Everyone in the game should have an extra skin. That we can EARN. Not purchase. I passed on the Reve skin because of the expensive price.
As for the purchasing the gear, the armor and accessories that enables victories in GR-1-3 /19-21 , at this point, yes. As long as it's that elite ancient mythical gear and as long as the price isn't exceeding $10.
Buying a legendary? Again, people are on budget's these days. It's a digital download of pixels. Be realistic. $10-$15. And I'm only slightly agreeing on this because one loses their patience with getting hardest to get characters. For me, it's Deimos, Estrid, Luneria, Boreas, Vargus.
All that aside, I do have a serious legitimate concern about the Arena: is it Rigged? I mean are their hackers/cheaters getting away with rigging/cheating the Arena matches? If my BP is near 300,000 , but I'm constantly losing to players who's BP is just over 200,000, is it that good GR21 gear they have? Or is it that there's players manipulating the gameplay through dishonest methods to cheat to win? I'm fed up with losing constantly to player's who's BP is much lower than mine. I only go against them because I can't hardly ever beat the players who's BP is above mine, unless I see their lineup and realize they chose The wrong type of characters for the challenge

You want to still wait weeks and then have a very poor chance to you can...if you don't want to wait you now don't have to. Can still earn others to to level it up you still can.

I don´t agree about the pricetag is not important, "no matter if its 1 dollar or 100 dollar". It really is important for me. Compare this price with Elden Ring DLC that is having a release this summer.
In my currency Swedish krona (SEK)
    4999 WoR Currency = 499 SEK
Elden ring DLC is 39,99 Euro = 468,19 SEK
And im being like, 39,99 Euro for a DLC is pretty much... and I love Elden ring so I will probobly buy this xD. When you sell 1 item in a game for that price, that is insane. If this item is like BIS for Arena, then it also would ruin the game. If you are a top Arena, PvP enthusiast, then you would feel forced to buy the item, or quit the game. (Im not a pvp guy, so couldnt care less).
I mean the pricing does matter a lot for me. I would spend more in a Gachagame if the pricing was reduced. I am a believer that this type of games would make more money if they would reduce their prices. I dont like P2W, but with the standard today im starting to think about it as Pay to play. The reasoning being that you don´t get what you want even if you buy stuff but you get faster to a point that you enjoy playing the game more.
If I spend small amounts here and there in any game is fine because it is a free game. Either I pay for a game or I support the game with small transactions during a longer period of my game time. When the micro transactions turn inte macro transactions it is anoying and this might be the beginning when the game starts losing more players...or Not, I dont know :)
Edit: I watched a little longer into the video, and I do agree with you about buying energy and summons. AND I want more cosmetics into the game. For a reasonable price, I think they would make huge money on that. I League of Legends i think I spent like 200 Euros on skins alone during a timespan of 2 years. Because you want skins on your favorites, and you sometimes even buy more skins for the same champion, even if you just can use 1 at a time. :) Skins or armor or whatever, is so much fun! I think looks does make these games better! :)

I'm not for it, but I'm not exactly against it either. The key from my perspective is that it really depends on the frequency, and volume/purchase limit, of these deals.
There are enough things in the game that are already creeping power that the selling of exclusive artifacts, or even potentially heroes, may not really impact that game's content completion in too problematic of a way. But the release of these deals has to be a "slow burn" that matches the release of new (ideally engaging, see pelagios codex) content well.
The cost of the purchase is a different discussion entirely and feels like people are missing your point, because it could certainly become a problem if implemented poorly.

Here's my issue, talking about luck and RNG. I'm a still fairly new player, 3-4 months in, out of the game's life of 10 months.
My most recent "wow this sucks" experience in the game, wasn't gear farming, no. It was when I hit Artifact Material raid stage 18, farmed the heck out of it, got enough Flawless Meteorite to forge 25-30 artifacts and got maybe 5-7 mythics? With the vast majority not even being (useless) Lgendaries but EPICS?!? What is this? How is the rate of Epics highert than Mythics, when I forge it from the Mythic resource? Absolutely bonkers.
So while you, and I'm sure a lot of other people were lucky enough to get Hex's exclusive artifact, there will be 10x, 20x, 50x more people who spent way more resources (and or money) and they still didn't get it and they are the ones thinking of dropping the game at this rate.
All I'm saying is that, sometimes, if possible, you have to try and help your luck. Same goes to this "insta" Legendary card/item that they are selling from time to time, you get some random Legendary, yes it is stil random and not targeted one but it is a Legendary nevertheless. Give me an option to forge only Legendaries and Mythics, put Epics on 5 or 10% if you have to but not on 30% over 20% for Mytihcs. If they will be putting/keeping odds like that, I will be totally for having targeted Artifacts on sale. I like the game but I hate that is gacha game, as my luck is abyssmal......

I totally missed this. Looks like it was only up for a day and I don't look in the shop that often. Anyway, I'm torn on it. I HATE how much this game is about gambling and chance. You could spend a year playing the game and not get the heroes/gear/artifacts you want. So I definitely think there should be a way to get specific things. Not sure how I feel about straight buying it though.

At this point it won't be too long to see very rare heroes at the shop as well.

I think this is ok. I’m also ok with the banners as long as they are mainly repeat and only one new banner per month.
