  • This is part of the ShivWorks' ECQC Course 'Extreme Close Quarters Concepts' created and taught by Craig Douglas aka 'SouthNarc'. In this video, Craig Douglas teaches retention shooting from the high-pectoral index and puts retention shooting in real-world context. These concepts are tested on the range with live fire and then in hand-to-hand fights in a martial arms gym.

I do believe we ALL owe John a debt of gratitude for this one☝🏼. I honestly believe that this is the first ever “training of a trainer” video I’ve ever seen presented in such a clear and concise manner; and not just another trainers collaboration. Complete respect for the extreme amount of value provided. A HUGE thank you to everyone @ WPS which make this possible. God Bless you and your family Mr. Lovell ! 🙏🏼🇺🇸❤️

Craig, you’ve got every box checked that I can think of: knowledge; expertise; experience; patience; training methodology that works; extensive study and research to test and prove your technique; humility; character; mentality of a teacher vs an instructor (I know you know the difference); safe; effective; limits speaking during training session to only what is necessary to make the point, teach the tactic, and progress the student, maximizing the use of your time and the student’s time (which equals more bang for the buck); does not waste time overdoing the naming the myriad variables in the myriad scenarios that can be encountered; incorporates situational awareness and concern for collateral damage into the training methodology; and on and on. You are the real deal, the whole enchilada, brother.
The work you have put into your approach to training, what you are training, and how you train it, shows in every move you make, every word you speak, and every progression to take the student from crawl to all out sprint, progressively combining steps which quickly create muscle memory that is precise, deliberate and effective. Amazing to witness. If Master Trainer were a recognized title in weapons handling instruction, you would have to be the guy certifying the Master Trainers. Bottom line, I’m thoroughly impressed and hopeful to learn from you, some day. In the meantime, for now, its CZcams in my basement (non-live fire, of course). Highest regards!

What I really appreciate about this concept is how nicely that initial draw and index gets you in line with a high probability shot at popping the adversaries hip. Quickest way to immobilize an adversary (outside of a round in the brain stem) is to pop the hip. Rather they know they’ve been shot or not, they’re not going anywhere but down at that point.
