Welcome BACK to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band! This live recording is from Wacken Open Air 2013, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience.
About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners.
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her.
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.

Emppu is the kind of player who is very good, very skilled, but he doesn't showboat. He's part of the band, he puts in the max what is needed, but doesn't overdo it, doesn't try to "outplay" others. He's very cool and on live shows he's often the "trickster" person, joking and having an absolute blast on stage. Check out Nightwish's tribute to Pink Floyd, their version of "High Hopes", among many other songs, to see more of Emppu.
I'm 65 years old and discovered Nightwish about 4 weeks ago and have been going down this rabbit hole ever since. Nightwish is the best band I never heard of before. Thank you, Nightwish for bringing Heaven to Earth!
17:32 Two things:
A) I have seen Nightwish live 6 times, once with Tarja, once with Annette, and FOUR TIMES with Floor. The instant she starts singing, nothing else in the world matters, because the crowd just suddenly becomes one, everyone covered head to toe in goosebumps. She is a one in a billion singer, imho.
B) Those voices in the background, as is the backing music, are the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir. The lyrics for the choir are a reinforcement of the main theme of the song, and are: "My fall will be for you / My love will be in you / You were the one to cut me / So I’ll bleed forever"

Nightwish Army, Sydney outpost, signing in. Nightwish hasn't toured Australia in some time, they recently cancelled their Asian leg of their tour due to the lead singer, Floor Jansen, having treatment for breast cancer. She is thankfully doing well now. My brother and his family live in Vienna, Austria, and as Nightwish is playing at the Nova rock festival there in June, I will be flying 23 hrs from Sydney to Vienna to see them live. My brother thinks the reason for my trip is to visit him, he is mistaken 😆 the free accommodation is a bonus though 😂😂 I wish you well on your journey down the Nightwish rabbit hole

Welcome to the Nightwish family.I have no idea who you heard back then, but under guarantee not Floor as a front woman, because this woman is definitely remembered.Floor took over the job as singer while Nightwish was on world tour in 2012 and the band fired their former singer.That was also the rebirth of the band.From this point on, Nightwish got better and better from year to year and Floor became a mainstay of the band.

Floor her name is derived from the Roman Goddess of Spring, Flora.
Floor Jansen is called the Valkyrie Goddess of Metal and Empathy.
Floor Jansen is a soprano, with a range of more than 4 octaves (Eb2 to F6).
She can sing from classical to belting and raspy vocals like screaming and death growls. And she's also a voice coach and teacher to boot. Plus, huge vocal nerd 😉.
Floor Jansen was the singer of the Dutch metal band After Forever from 1997 to early 2009. From 1999 she studied at the Rockacademie in Tilburg with classmates Jacqueline Govaert and Danny Vera, where she graduated in 2003. She studied musical theatre and a year of opera. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she gave singing lessons. She plays guitar, piano and flute. On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band ReVamp, which was disbanded in September 2016.
From 1 October 2012 Jansen replaced Anette Olzon (Second singer of Nightwish after Tarja) as singer of Nightwish during the Imaginaerum World Tour (And she had to learn the set list in 48h). On October 9, 2013, it was announced that she would be the group's regular new front singer. In 2015, Nightwish released the album Endless Forms Most Beautiful with Jansen as lead singer. Nightwish's second studio album with Jansen as front singer, Human. :II: Nature., was released in April 2020.

Our Metal Mozart Tuomas Holopainen (founder, leader, keyboardist, songwriter and the main composer for Nightwish)
Tuomas the keyboardist writes about 95% of Nightwish songs, music and lyrics. He also composes the music for the backing track they use. It is recorded in London with musicians from The London Philharmonics. Pip Williams helps with the orchestration. There are two London based choirs too on the backing track, the other one is a children's choir. And of course with a synth you can do a lot.
This was recorded at the 2013 Wacken (pronounced Vahken) Open Air festival in Germany in front of an audience of 82,000 people. The fiery bull head is the symbol of the festival.

It's fun to see somebody start with this song, get it, love it and have so much ahead of them. That's how it happened for me. You'll find there's a whole bunch of these astounding live performances on video, then that there's a whole epic story to this band, and then that the members have all these interesting tributaries of side projects and solo work and previous bands. It's like you were walking around and, on a whim, opened this side door, and discovered there was a whole other universe in there...

They have had 2 singer changes since that song you were talking about.
Emppu the guitarist only does what fits the song. He gets his more complicated solos on other songs. This one is easy going and melodic.

Interesting to hear you describe how you came across Nightwish a very long time ago. I did too. However, I didn't connect with their music until Floor Jansen took over as the vocalist / front woman of the band. With Floor the sound became complete and I finally became a huge fan.

I knew Phantom back in the day and mom had their CD with Tarja. I lost track for decades then rediscovered last summer with Floor. Never losing track again.
During a concert I was at for Revamp -- Floor's previous band -- the next band took the stage, Sabaton, I look next to me and Floor is standing there watching them do their set. She married the drummer a few months later, and joined Nightwish.
I have been listening to Floor since After Forever. Awesome vocalist in all her incarnations.
Sir, this was song number 13 of 15 songs. This song is usually played to the end, so that the band can take a short brake at the interlude. Floor was for around 10 months in the band, she had (and did) earn the love and respect of the fans. She had sung 12 songs until this here. What stamina. By the way, she is professional voice teacher of Masterclass level, studied Rockmusic and classical music in the Netherlands.

If you heard The Kinslayer it is quite possible that you heard it with the first singer Tarja who was more operatic in style so the vocal changes that Floor uses in this song were not in the original version. And she added the final part with the composer's ( Tuomas Holopainen on keyboards) agreement.

First listened to Nightwish about 10 years ago. I liked it, but not enough to learn anything about the band other than that the band comes from Finland and is considered symphonic metal. Never thought I'd be interested in metal music, but this band eased me in. I knew there had been at least two singers but, listening, never knew who was who. Then about 4 years ago I saw one of my very first reaction videos, and this was the video they reacted to. Turns out it was my first time hearing the band live (never liked live before), and the first time to hear (and see) our reigning Queen. I thank a reaction channel for grabbing me by the shoulders and plunging me with them down the NW rabbit hole. I now have t-shirts, the CD set of their latest album (Human :||: Nature ... my all-time favoritee now), and the Blu-Rays or DVDs of their performance here at Wacken, as well as Tampere (2015?) and one other. So. While we normally watch reactions to things we already know and love, sometimes I'll let a trusted reactor introduce me to something new. Keep up your great work. Nightwish brought me to you and I'm here for YOUR journey with them. Cheers, y'all.

Greetings from Vancouver, BC sevsimo reacts! Great reaction. Welcome to the Nightwish rabbit hole! It's a helluva ride that just gets better the deeper you go. I'm an old guy who luckily found Nightwish some time ago. I have yet to see them live (Check out the DVD from this concert.), but have to say that, while 'envy' is a horrible colour on anyone , I'm afraid I'm in neon for those who were at Wacken in 2013. There are other amazing concerts, but this one seems electric. I do so hope I get to see them live before I snuff it!
I was sceptical at first about Floor in the band but after that night she aquired the living breathing Legend status for me. Now I'll gladly worship the ground she walks!
This song, everyone directs at Wacken13...i must be the best version,their best performance of the song and they are all so right. That was the day it became a true masterpiece.
12:39 - You had asked when the next Wacken festival is. And as that goes, Wacken Open Air is held each year in August (and this year it’s from August 2-5).
But it looks like you’re out of luck for this year because apparently all 80,000 tickets for Wacken 2023 sold out within 6 hours. So, uh, maybe next year?
For Wacken you have to order a ticket almost a year in advance.The Open Air always takes place in the first week of August.
bad news its already sold out, but good news is its on every year so hopefully next year!

@@sevsimo nightwish does play in smaller venues in Germany this year. By themselves, not at the festival.
There are still tickets for those shows.

You have to watch the whole concert from Wacken 2013! Its one of the best liveperformances of all time! Nightwish at its best and Floor Jansen with an unbelievable voice performance for nearly 2 hours! They did a DVD from this concert called Showtime, Storytime. I watch it every year 1-2 times and always get goosebumps!
