The Toyota RAV4 is known for being reliable, spacious, practical, but also a little dull. Toyota has given it a refresh with a new look up front, some tweaked lights at the rear and a couple of updates to the engines and trim levels. You can get the RAV4 with a 2.0-litre D-4D diesel engine, a 2.0-litre petrol engine or a 2.5-litre V6 petrol mated to an electric motor - the RAV4 Hybrid.
In this review we're testing the RAV4 2.0 D-4D with a six-sped manual gearbox to see if the changes make it competitive with the latest raft of family SUVs.

Bought an AWD diesel new in 2017 with the leather dash and fittings. We love it now four years later as much as the day we first took ownership. Something that could never be said about the nightmare of a thing my Forrester was. On top of being utterly reliable, it is simply a wonderful car to own and drive.
This guy knows what he is talking about, i don't understand the hate. Besides, Carbuyer is the car show for sense and sensibility.
I think this was a good review! I don't get why everybody hate him so much... He brings out good point and go through the negatives and the positives of the car. That's what you want from a presenter, so what's the problem?
+Markus Henryson A lot of the subscribers are brats who don't like sudden change and bitch whenever a new presenter comes and/or goes. They bitched when Rebecca came, got used to her then cried when she left. They bitched when Ginny came, then they settled down. This too shall pass eventually.
I know, he's done a pretty good job, gives all the info any other reviewer would give, no big deal to me if they change presenters, thats life.
+Markus Henryson Yeah, he is actually good, but idk, he isn't that calm down or good sacarstic mood as Matt. Just the way he (this one) doesn't cause emphaty with me, I guess with a lot of us is the same.
He's great - he doesn't take the review too seriously, has his own 'vibe' and tells you what you need to know.

I like this reviewer but feel like people are a little harsh on the RAV4. drove one the other day and was better than the sportage and tucson if not cx5/ateca. I think it's actually a very good looking car with this face-lift, well proportioned (unlike kuga) and modern

So you skipped some intresting points. Stability, off road (soft) handling, 4x4 limited for specific versions, driving comfort noise... But hay you covered the boot very good :)
This is a perfectly sensible and informative review and I'm growing to like this presenter's individualistic style - some subscriber's comments are utterly meaningless and infantile. How can a reviewer properly be criticised because someone says he has some weird teeth in his lower jaw or that his hands are too hairy? Who's weirder, the reviewer or his detractors?

I loved the original Rav4, it was fun to drive and small enough for the city. I kind of think that there's a gap in the market now, all cars these days are bloated to cope with crash regulations, smaller sometimes is better.

Toyota Rav4 kick-started the segment. You've forgotten the Suzuki Vitara
I've got a first gen rav4, one of the last from 2001 and it is a far more fun and enjoyable car to own than this thing. 140 hp, half the size, half the weight full time 4WD. Where has the fun gone from cars these days, everything is so 'grown up' and boring?

The worst thing Toyota did with this car was abolish the three-door version. The second worst thing they did was make it butt-ugly. I have never seen the evolution of a car - in so far as its aesthetics - go so horribly wrong. I used to own a Rav4 back in the early naughties when they still looked good. I stick to my Qashqai now, thank you.

No it hasn't Honda CRV models have always had a slightly larger boot space and now you have other cars too. Also when buying a car consider the seats up storage and also seats down storage, eg Ford Kuga/ Escape has smallish space seats up but very high volume with seats down. Skodia Kodiaq looks like a good bet.

The car looks ok but there's really no point in buying it especially if you can't get a diesel four wheel drive. I'd have a Kuga or CRV
