    Thanks for the review of the VHF transceiver, 100 watts is really a lot for such a small box of wonder stuff from china. I used the Yaesu FT-2600M for years, it has no fan and was often offered secondhand here in the Netherlands, usually from the Red Cross or other emergency services in the east or other parts of the world. So they were not really optically the most beautiful, but always worked perfectly, the power was in the highest mode just over 60 watts, audio was excellent and extremely stable. Thanks again for your review and have a nice evening. Greetings Danny (PD2DSB), JO21QV.

    I've got two of the Yaesu FT-2800M's stacked at home as my "base station". Each is on a separate antenna, one omni, one yagi. Simple, rugged, just works. If replaced, I'd probably at least get one with fusion for some digital. luckily at least one local linked repeater still has analog on.

    Alinco all day long. I have the Alinco DR-638 dual band in my commuter car for close to three years now, has never failed me or gave cause to curse it :) On my meter it puts out just a hair under the advertised 50 watts say 48-49 (old eyes) I use to have a lesser quality radio and could hear truckers and CHP going down the road on frequencies I was not tuned to. I never have that problem with the Alinco, much better filters. Thanks for the show!

      @@HamRadio2 yes they are, I have been debating for some time on the Yeasu FT-991A or the ICom 7300, finale decided on the Yeasu FT991A-A just because of the range of frequency it has, and I want just one radio when I stay on my gold claims, and the Yaesu can communicate with the two radios I have in my UTV Anytone tri-band (UHF/VHF), and striker 497 HPC 120watt 10 meter. but really liked the ICom though, maybe next time.

The 2800 puts out 65 watts and is now in my radio shack monitoring on the repeater frequency. Its a solid radio that I bought back in the early 2000's, never has given me any grief.I actually bought two at the time, one for me and one for my father who is also a Ham.

    I use a FTM 3200D in my shack. It's rated at 65 watts but my meter shows 60 to 62 watts. It's a nice little rig. I use it mostly for repeaters but I have a friend that is close enough to go simplex. I use 5 watts and he uses 3 watts. We'll meet on 146.520 and then move 30 kilohertz up or down to leave 146.52 open for others who need it.

    Realy nice and helpfull video! However. Have you tested the KT-980 Plus model? This one is advertised as a dual band transciever working at 75 vhf/55 uhf (watts). Do you think may have the same power with 780 or is another "8900" model?

  • @Dusther210
    @Dusther210 Před 3 lety

    I have 2 different QYT radios but I do not have this one. I got frustrated trying to program from the face. However the same CHIRP profile works on both. Very easy and smooth on CHIRP.
    The issue I noticed if I same a frequency without CHIRP is the R-CTCS and T-CTCS will change (usually to 77.0) so I would always be going into menu 11 and 13 every five seconds. It was so annoying.
    After programming with CHIRP I have not had the problem
    However I have heard on 2 occasions I have some noise when I transmit

  • @MarkPeeren
    @MarkPeeren Před 3 lety +1

    I have one of those. Mine was supposed to put out 70 Watts but only did 50. You can program it with chirp and is easy enough to figure out. After a few months it would keep shutting down due to over heating even when set to low power. I thinks its junk. Replace it with a FTM-100D. Now the KT-780 plus sits in my box of bad ideas. That's what I get for cheaping out. Good video.

We manually get the radio frequencies from the customers, but when we are about 1-2 miles away from them we get really bad reception (open plains no physical obstructions) what could I buy personally to get better reception when I'm stationed 2 miles away? Already bought a nagoya-771 and it didn't help much. Is there a radio I can by like the one you show in this video that will help me connect to their frequencies and talk to them better?

    It will monitor Four VHF Frequencies not Four VHF Bands as you stated.Also your MFJ Wattmeter is still out of Calibration and it’s very easy to correct the needle position so that it’s Zeroed.If it were properly adjusted it would be pretty close to 100 watts output.👍🎙

      The MFJ Wattmeter matches, almost exactly, my Bird Wattmeter. Why would I need to adjust it?

    • @1OFGODSOWN
      @1OFGODSOWN Před 3 lety +2

      @@HamRadio2 the needle should start at ZERO and your needle is Below the ZERO.It’s why they put that little screw on the face of the meter so if it gets bumped up or down the owner may correct the needle setting.

      @HamRadio2  Před 3 lety +1

      I used the set-screw to calibrate the meter to match the Bird. I don't care what the meter reads when sitting quiet, I want an accurate reading when putting RF through it

      @@HamRadio2 well I thought it was Common Sense that we would all want any wattmeter or SWR Meter to start at ZERO but maybe I don’t understand since I have only been using one since 1965? I guess I was taught incorrectly and have been doing it Wrong all of these years. My understanding is that you Zero the meter and if it’s out of calibration then there are pots Inside the meter to adjust for Proper adjustment or calibration.I guess I will have to readjust all of my meters?😱 I’d bet that if you asked a Poll Question among viewers and friends that you would find that I am correct but do it your way if it makes you happy because I know that you don’t really care what I say is the Correct way.👍🤣

      @HamRadio2  Před 3 lety +1

      @@1OFGODSOWN I guess you've never used an MFJ Wattmeter.
      I prefer to calibrate this meter so that it gives an accurate reading, not so that it starts at the right place on the analog dial, which can be inaccurate.

    • @HamRadio2
      @HamRadio2  Před 3 lety +4

      Because price fluctuates. I've mentioned price of radios in previous videos and 6 months after the video posts, I always have someone comment on the video, telling me I'm wrong about the price. Well the price was right at the time of recording, but it fluctuates with time.
      So whether I mention the price or not (sometimes I still do, as in other videos) someone will always come by and comment about it, like you just did. I don't mind your comments at all, I'm just saying that I can't please everyone. Someone would comment about price being mentioned or not mentioned, regardless.

The CE mark has no reference to communications, Like FCC approval, incidently ACMA approval is not required in Australia for the Amateur Bands, only that they like them frequency locked, but spec's are not reviewed...Commercial, Air Marine and CB do have to have approvals but Amateur Radio...no-one cares any more so in hindsight the FCC does a great job

    Bought my first “cheap” radio....a QYT. Total waste of time. Powered up. Hand programmed a few local repeaters. Made contacts on 3 different repeaters. Shut down. Next day turned on and it said “KILLED” on the screen. Couldnt do anything with it. Was told by the seller that it had entered remote kill mode. Not sure how or why considering that can only be activated through software, and I never connected it to anything....didnt even have a programming cable. Spent hours and hours over the next few days emailing back and forth with the seller, who told me to buy a programming cable and then I would be able to disable the kill mode. WRONG. The software would not recognize the radio....hmmmm....probably because it was in Kill Mode. After much more effort...I finally demanded a return and refund. Seller made me pay for return shipping. So....never again. Would never trust one of these radios. We have three IC-2730a and have never had any issue at all. The potential cost savings isnt worth the inconsistencies, poor interface, and cheap and unreliable components. Can get some really nice mono band radios from companies like Yaesu in the $150-180 range. Can get some really nice dual band, some with digital modes, when increasing budget to $250.
