Lyrics to Cassiopeia
It’s a pretty good view on the moon tonight
As the sun’s going down on the satellite
And the earth hangs around, my old friend in the sky
‘Cause she knows I’m an old castaway
I weep to think what I’ve become
Since I crashed landed down in the calcium
I had reached for the stars
but I couldn’t choose one
So it’s here I am bound to remain
I was looking for Cassiopeia
I was searching for gold in the sky
Through my telescope I hope to see her
If only to wish her goodnight
It’s dinner time on the moon again
But the candles won’t light without oxygen
So I eat by the glow of the world that I left
And wonder it’s still the same
Now that’s not to say I’m alone out here
There are hunters and archers and charioteers
They’re flung through the night
Like I’m flung through the years
I hear them all calling my name
I’m still searching for old Ursa Minor
I’ve been tracking her prints in the sky
Through my telescope I hope find her
If only to wish her goodnight
Yes and where’d you go, Cassiopeia?
All I found were your tears in the sky
In my dreams I know I’m gonna meet ya
If only to tell you I tried

We recently lost a dearly departed friend and astronomer, and I'll be using this song as a tribute to her. This is a person who loved to do astronomy outreach. She loved the story of Cassiopeia and had a lot of joy in showing people the night sky. The lyrics are perfect, almost as if they were written with her in mind. Thank you!
I absolutely love this song. It brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. First, my late father woulda loved it as much as I do, and if it had existed when I was a baby, he woulda sang it to me.
Second, my last cat, I called Anu. She's the Irish/Celtic goddess who occupies the same constellation as the song's namesake. So every time I think of Cassiopeia, I fondly remember my dear and departed kitty.
Thank you.
Second time around - new thought...
If parents could learn this song, they could sing it to their children at bedtime. It has that gentle melody, attainable range, and the lyrics could only increase a child's desire to hasten dreams. Hunters, archers, and charioteers, oh my!
I have come across Reina del Cid on CZcams when I was looking for a Jambalaya Rice recipe, I completetly forgot about the rice. Since that day, I follow her and I enjoy her exceptional talent and voice. Greetings from Paraguay!
You are an absolutely exceptional songwriter! A modern day Carole King, if I may be so bold. Your lyrics to this song are so powerful and engaging, coupled with the most peaceful, yet enticing melody, something I believe all songwriters aspire to. Fantastic song! Thank you.
For what it's worth, a lot of talented people never hit the big time in showbusiness while a lot of people with little talent do. Reina, you are easily more talented than a lot of the people who do make it big and I think you rank up there one of the better singer/songwriters out there. From the way you and Toni conduct yourselves in your videos I'm pretty sure that you are more interested in putting out good music than in getting noticed. If that's the case then you can be very proud of your career so far. You are writing and performing some great music and it is appreciated.

You are really good and I hope you make it big
@@tenaborek65 Or at least as big as she'd like. It would be a shame to see a record company influence this kind of talent.
Supposedly a record company reached out to her during her college days. Reina rejected them. She wanted to create music in her own way.
@@jfr597 If that's the case then she's doing a darn good job by doing it her own way... My point wasn't that she should have big record deals, TV appearances, and such. It was that those things are not a measure of the quality of her music.
I'm sixty five years old and all of your songs remind me the music I loves when I was still a teenager.
What a lovely song! The folks at Blue Cactus Dairy Goats have a gorgeous doe named Cassiopeia and she's very laid back so this song would also suit her well as it does the constellation!
I really wish I could write like that. Reina is extremely underrated as a song writer. Totally jealous.
Same. Soooooo good.
Don’t be jealous. Be inspired.
Just practice 1h a day for a year, you'll get there
True that! Extremely extremely underrated!
Anyone can become a songwriter, adding unto what others have commented, practicing for 1 hour everyday helps with learninghow to play the guitar, really instrument, but also helps with becoming a better songwriter, also this may seem strange, but reading the dictionary or thesaurus really helps, with world linkage, in terms of songwriting! Another tip is if possible just spend more time outside in nature, if inspiration sparks write down what lyrics that come into your mind! Another tip can help is expanding the genres of music that you listen too! Hope these tips help you guys❤
I think this is my favourite. As an amateur astrophotographer my telescope and I thank you. People, go and find Cassiopeia in the night sky, she is beautiful and deserving of this beautiful song. Love it, Reina.
Just when you think you’ve heard her best song, she does it again. Her music is a hidden gem that I tell all my friends about. Can’t wait to see where her and Toni will be in 5 years from now.
Beautiful tune, beautiful lyrics, beautiful singing. This song should be #1 in the charts.
I listened more than 20 times during the last 7 days. Thank you. Elle.
Reina, if you knew me you’d appreciate how high this praise is - this song evokes emotions of Joni’s “Amelia” for me. Of course, this is entirely your own, but it stirs me the same way. Thank you and sleep well under the stars!
Two queens...
The queen of Ethiopia and the queen of song: One vain about her own beauty, the other secure and confident in the beautiful words she delivers. I believe, decades from now, our modern queen will be remembered as the first great songwriter of the 21st Century.
What I like about this channel is it draws erudites like moths to a dimly shining flame in the distance and offers the same attraction to any who seek enlighteenment of song, lyrically thoughtful stories and the emotions that make looking up as stars as special as this song
Aw Reina - That was treasure and I was moved. It was beautiful.
Surprisingly, for one whose flatmate suffers from guitar overspill, I appreciate the diversity of instruments in these videos, with the odd clear favourite.
I teared up. I admit it. It's so well put together and obviously a personal song.
I haven’t written a song in years and this makes me want to sit down and write songs about the stuff I think about again. Thanks for that. Excellent song. You’re awesome
Wow, I mean WOW!! As an old picker & seeker of songs, I'm blown away.
I think that's one of the best songs I've heard in this century.
Completely original point of view, great facility with the language ("Since I crash landed down in the calcium..." !!!), solid & accessible melodies, straightforward chord progression. Reina, you deliver the goods every time. Thanks...
Sounds like astronomers young and old across the world have a new anthem! Clever writing and, as always, beautifully delivered. Greetings again from Norfolk, England
As an amateur astronomer myself I wholeheartedly agree with this sentiment.
Amateur astronomer and fan of Sunday Mornings here, and this is my new favorite. I'll hear it the next time I'm looking at the double cluster in Cassiopeia (rising / well positioned in the fall). BRAVO!
I'm a couple of days late to the show but what an amazing piece of work. If ever there was a song to take you away and let your imagination run wild this is undoubtedly the the most perfect song for that, I loved everything about it! I know its not the right day but... Sunday complete!!
Damn I really love everything about this song the tune the words and the excellent musicianship.
thank you Miss.. very nice.. I am just dumb founded , by your talent.. time to throw my radio in the trash ......these videos are the new music to my ears....
This gives off major Bright Eyes vibes, and I’m totally here for it! I love it! That, Bob Dylan, or Woodie Guthrie. Not sure, but all 3 are huge inspirations to me and my music, as are you!
I love how complicated and nuanced this song makes the ... exile? shipwreck? ... of trying to make something. "If only to tell you I tried." Lovely song.
Reina, you have a bit of Leonard Cohen in your soul. And that's high praise!
No matter how many times I play this song it gives me chills. Love it!
That was heavenly. I am going outside now to look at the stars.
Some really **chef's kiss** lyrics in there. The ones that stuck out to me were "like I'm flung through the years" and "if only to tell you I tried." Beautiful!
When i read the title i was in for some sad greek mythology based lovesong but this is astronomy folk and i'm here for it! =)
Greetings Reina from the good old British Isles. I hope you and the guys are managing to cope and keep in good spirits during these troubled times. Thanks for the music, and let's hope life will get a little easier for musicians throughout the world.
This is another excellent tune! Doesn't sound remotely like it's still a bit in the oven-it's fully baked.
I love this song. Being an amateur astronomer, it was just so nice. Wonderful melody also.
I love this song so much. It literally picks me up and bodily throws me to the times when I went camping as a child and my dad would point out constellations.
Great song. Words strike me with some Irish Brogue. Thank for another Sunday morning.
Really connected to that song...Thank you, Reina. Took me to the edge of tears. Greek mythology is all about reaching for perfection in body, mind and spirit. If the God's touch us with that something extra...it's very, very, hard not to be vain. But, that's the test, is it not. (Ptolemy)
Thank you for bringing your light into the world - it's help kept me sane through this crazy time. Arohanui.
Things get me emotional very easily lately, but still... this made me feel a lot.
Beautiful song. I was expecting "Einstein 1905" to be the next new song, so this was a surprise. My thoughts on Reina's songwriting. Considering how lyric centric her songs are, she manages to compose very good melodies. Very often Singer-Songwriters can only do the lyrics well. Reina obviously puts a lot of work in the melody. This makes her songs very accessible.
Hi Reina,
Today I realised a dream of mine. I bought a hammock and was chilling in it, suspended as it is between an almond and an olive tree in our garden in our country house in Ostuni in Puglia....the heel of Italy. Whereupon, your Sunday Morning popped into my notifications. Listening, dangling, blue sky and a glass of chilled rosato! Have I died and gone to heaven?
...and we're Irish! Thanks guys.
Thanks for all the content! The world seems a little less dark right now because of people like you
I was immediately enchanted by this song. If this is just a demo, I can't wait to hear what else you'll add. Anything else is icing on the cake IMHO. Thanks!
I loved the simplicity. A great lullaby, not to put you to sleep but it lulls you to a peaceful sleep, free of negative thoughts. A baby would have sweet dreams.
I have been watching your videos ever since you uploaded Wonder about 12 years ago you are an amazing artist singer and person keep up the awesome work Reina
Incalculable the number of times I have reached for the stars but crash landed on the moon. A lot of thought behind this song.
What an incredible song! This and Wonder are my two favorite songs of yours. Parts of it remind me of Walt Grace’s Submarine Test 1967.
I love this tune, beautiful story telling. This song will be on repeat next camping trip to the desert.
What a beautiful voice, warm and tenderly. I love it! 💞 Can listen to you till "Bernadette" (best Song in 2020!) comes into the kitchen! 👍🤣😎 The next week will be safe and marveless! I will try to hear this song this evening, shortly before sleeping! And I will dream very good! Greets from 🇦🇺
You have really elevated yourself as a songwriter and storyteller
A crazy beautiful song. Who knew the solorsystem could sound so smooth. Rock on.
Next time I'm stargazing, this song will be in my heart. Thank you!
As much as I enjoy hearing you and Toni together, I really love your solos. Great lullaby BTW.
So beautiful! That's a lullaby right up there with Sweet Baby James.
Thank you for providing original content. Your talent is obvious. Thank you for developing it. Great line about the light
setting off the satalite. So lyical, melodic, and descriptive.
How much do I love these Sunday songs? I sat through a Trump ad to listen.
You take the audience to a nice home. I hear that home in your words.
Thank you for making this moment in my life bearable...
What a sweet song. Love song, lament, poetic and scientific. Wonderful. The STEAM educators should use it to encourage imagination.
This is amazing 👏 🙌 Brilliant
I'm a guitar picker player songwriter and amateur astronomer since I was young. This mixes the two loves music guitar and stars. Your simply and truly amazingly talented ❤ 🤗🙏
Your are part of the few real music 🎶 geniuses
Thank you 😊
I absolutely love this song! Beautifully and cleverly written! Just wow! As a musician myself I have to learn to play this!
Wow, this song gave me chills! Long Live the Queen (Reina) !
This song is wonderful! Your rendition is enchanting, your voice and the guitar. Thank you. I am listening to it over and over.
So unbelievably gifted. To be able to create something so beautiful is a thing of mystery to me. Thank you.
My granddaughter (10 years old) wants to be an astrophysicist. I HAVE to send her this song. And I will have to learn it myself. YOu, young lady, are AMAZING!!!!
I can't wait to play this for my Daughter. This last week she was just learning about constellations as part of her science classes.
I have seen you on and off in my feeds, and I wasn't that impressed. I had seen you do only covers... when this one popped up I thought I'd have another look.. when I realized you had written this I was blown away... I think your voice is so unique that covers done as the original, or similar, doesn't do your voice justice. This performance was riveting, I normally don't bother listening to lyrics, bit of a feel guy (being a bass player), but I found myself following the lyrics as a story... even went and googled ''Cassiopeia' after the song finished. This had a beautiful sad feel - loved it... I wish I could write like this...
Yep, she excels at hauntingly beautiful originals - if you haven't found more already, I've a few in my favourites playlist on here
Beautiful! Dylan probably would have liked to write this song
I don't think it's Dylan's style, but yes, it's beautiful :)
I absolutely agree !!!!!
Really nice.
I'm sitting here waiting on 2 hurricanes to hit after battening down the hatches. The 2 standards in my Sunday are coffee and Rina. As we say here, we loves us some Rina!!!
Or Reina even?
Beautiful song! I'm glad I found your channel. Keep dropping some of that classic country stuff every once in a while. I can think of some George Jones songs you would absolutely deliver on. Thanks for the great music :)
So. Damn. Good. Listening to this gives you that warm Sunday morning feeling inside, in spades - mission accomplished. Please keep writing music!!!
Reina, you express more beautiful feelings in your voice than any other vocalist I have ever heard. I especially love your Cassiopeia, and I keep returning to hear it again.
Dec 3 - Still sounds great! Love this song and its singer . . .
It's a beautiful day in Guelph, Ontario made even more beautiful by this lovely song.
Thanks so much.
Delicate and powerful, the fruit of your labour.
TWO WORDS: SIMPLY AMAZING!
* Reina´s singing is lovely and ethereal like the universe is. Great talent !
I'm privileged to be one of the first to hear this instant classic. Holding back the tears. This is what we need in these hard times! Peace!
Just played along to your song on my acoustic bass, don't think i managed to add anything to it, and i don't thing you should either! Sending you happy thoughts from Crail in Scotland
You are amazing and your songs are beautiful. Given my age, my favorite song writers have been Bob Dylan and Kris Kristopherson and, of course, John Prine; but honestly, your songs tough my heart as much as they ever did. I hope you publish a book of you music so I can learn some of your amazing songs just as I did theirs. Thanks a million.
One more awesome happy Sunday morning ! I'll have that melody in mind next time I watch Cassiopeia, Thank You Reina !
This is an awesome song. I just can't say it strongly enough - this is really an awesome song - both vocally and instrumentally. The object of art is to make you think or make you feel and this performance exceeds in both areas. Thank you!
man this is a good song. Find myself humming it as I work around the house.
Sunday’s have become one of my favorite days of the week! I love your originals Reina! I adore how they make you think and feel! Such beautiful substance coupled with your beautiful voice!!! I may be biased but I love that you guys are from Minnesota! I’ve lived here my whole life!!!! Anyway thank you for sharing your gifts!! I’m becoming one of your biggest fans!!
Beautiful and soothing, what a way to start my day. Thanks Reina, Sunday Mornings would just not be the same without you!
What a nice little tune with wonderfully imaginative lyrics. You’ve really struck a chord with those of your fans who are amateur cosmologists or sci-fi buffs. Poetic and emotive and revealing of a genuine piece of your heart, perhaps. Loved it.
WOW ! ! ! ! !
I just recently found your channel , and , have been binge watching , ever since .
I have yet , to hear a song , I don't like ! ! !
Including this one ! ! !
Your voice is hypnotizing , and , addicting , I can't get enough .
What a bitter feeling in this beautiful song... "I had reached for the stars but I couldn't choose one, so here I am bound to remain". Good luck Rachel, keep it up! Lets believe our Cassiopea is closer to us than we expect...
Great comment, to a great writer, of a great song.
This is exactly what John Prine writes like
RIP John Prine...
I heard it too, but more so in her guitar work.
Just got done mowing the lawn sitting in the garage drinking a cold one. I always look forward to Sunday’s to catch Reina’s voice. Perfect! Thank you 😊
Awesome song writing! Of course you know your singing and playing are A-1!
Wow! Just beautiful. You definitely have a gift with words and your music is not far behind. Wonderful song and thanks again for the Sunday morning smiles.
beautiful Reina! How appropriate for you to sing about a Greek Goddess who knows of her own beauty. You have a beautiful voice and both inward and outward beauty. Thank you for enlightening my day!
Beautiful squared. Now I'm going to have to look up pictures of Cassiopeia.
I love this song. Makes me cry.
This is my favorite from everything I've heard you play. Bravo fellow Troubadour!
Astronomy domine... so misty)) Thanks so much!!!!
Indeed it is a Happy Sunday Morning 🌤
I was just watching 'Inside Llewyn Davis', getting inspired as hell to make my own tunes then I got the notification for this video. After listening and thinking about how well you cover songs, I read that this is an original and brand new. Kudos to you for keeping folk music with inventive melodies and profound lyricism alive and well.
Wow! I LOVE this song! Way back in 1970, while I was in college, I minored in Astronomy. Cassiopeia was one of my favorite constellations. This song brought back memories of those times!!! I had goosebumps while listening to this song for the first time! The solar eclipse of March 7 1970, in North Carolina one of those treasured memories. Cassiopeia, my secret time machine. Keep up your wonderful songs.. Shout out to your musical companion, Toni!
