Personally Philly is the best city because of 2 things, 1. Philly is right in between DC, Baltimore, and New York. 2. Philly has the largest retail space, and the 3rd biggest mall, King Of Prussia

I am considering moving to Philly. Love the old school, blue collar feel Philly still has, compared to that which is becoming non-existent in New York. And the housing is really affordable, compared to New York, where some areas have median prices touching $1 million. I know the crime and public schools are issues. But I currently live in the Bronx (raised in Brooklyn!), so I deal with that. And I'll stay away from Kensington, which reminds me of the K-2 epidemics of both Myrtle and Broadway in Brooklyn and 125 Street and Lexington Avenue in Harlem. My son doesn't live with me, so I don't have to worry about the public schools. I love the cultural diversity and realness of Philly, especially from an African American perspective. And while I have my condo in the Bronx, I can sell it and use the proceeds to buy an affordable house in Philly.
Yes those are great points! Philly is very affordable and yes since your son doesn’t live with you the schooling isn’t a problem. Just find a nice area to live and you should be good. It just seems like a great opportunity to ride the wave! I visited last weekend and enjoyed it overall. They are definitely some cons. Back in the day I went to college in Philly but opted to live and work in another part of the state. Many good memories but it definitely is sad to see how the city has deteriorated. I rode the subways at all hours and never had a concern about walking through a concourse at, say, 3 A. M. Last year there were around 560 murders and that does not include shootings.
Philadelphia is a vibrant, affordable east coast city. Good choice, and yes there are cons with every big city. You presented well. Good luck in your future. You have a good head on your shoulders and a good attitude.

I live in phillly and the people that are being kicked out of their neighborhood are owners who can no longer afford the taxes while the new people (myself included) have benefited from tax abatement. It’s really sad. A lot of elderly people especially have been displaced.

This is true. I somewhat grew up in University City, as a child that areas wasn’t just racially diverse but also social economically diverse. I mean there were working class ppl, middle class ppl and upper middle class ppl all living in the same area. Now, I can’t afford jack in UC and all my family in South Philly have ALL been priced out of South Philly not to mention you lose the flavor of the neighborhood. Like for instance I cannot find a corner store anymore because everything are these god awful bodegas. Oh and let’s not forget the insane competition for housing. I love my city, but gentrification has forced a lot of natives out of their homes and neighborhoods to Chester, Delaware etc.

I’m looking in moving in the few years so I’m looking at possibilities now. What is your take on multicultural families moving in (I’m a single white with 3 preschool AA children) and being safe
Real estate prices are dictated by supply and demand, so instead of worrying about demand which you can’t change, agitate for an end to single family zoning. Building more units will lower prices while at the same time making neighborhoods nicer. Rent control doesn’t fix anything.
Builders haven’t been able to catch up on news construction units since pre 2008 but hopefully that changes in the future because it’s obvious we need more housing
@@lillianchukwueze 100%. If more land were allowed to be developed into apartments, i’m sure developers would be able to catch up though. Whenever the law doesn’t get in the way, supply will meet demand.
How do you move to a position of ownership if the average black woman does not get paid enough to buy a home. Sometimes even if you have the money to buy a house there is so much discrimination when it comes to buying if you don't have the right skin color you may not be able to break into the market

People don’t own, because they can’t afford to own. Gentrification happens when neighborhoods are in turmoil. You don’t gentrify a nice neighborhood. I was born and raised there, and it is not some place that I would want to live.
Soon after I attained my degree I left killadelphia for good! Its a shame temple university and the other good universities are located in the ghetto slums. Anyways I’ve been so much happier now!
It’s like that in a lot of cities even where I’m from I worked in phili for two years and lived in LA New Orleans Houston San Diego and they all have schools in really messed up areas it’s a shame cause kids have to go through this LA doesn’t look like it’s rough but they have a major gang problem you have to watch what colors you wear and hats and shoes belong to some kind of gang and all they do is set trip and ride around killing even innocent people and even elderly

Your Video was very informative and you have a nice Aura about you however your view on gentrification is Off!!. I have lived in Philadelphia all of my life and I do have Much love for it. Philadelphia has become an extremely dangerous place to live. I didn't really feel this until last year😢. There is lots of historical places and Activities to do in Philly but You may get caught in Crossfire doing them or Carjacked on your way to the Event🔫. There are lots of Rodents in Philly also. Drugs and Opioids are problematic. I live on the Outskirts of Philly and enjoy it because Its still close to home. 🏠
I agree with you on gentrification! Instead of us complaining get on train ride. Gentrification improves neighborhoods whether we like it on not. Look at Fishtown for example.
The only thing that i hate about philadelphia is all the crime, it has gotten so bad over the years. Philadelphia can really improve this but doesnt, mayor doesnt do anything about gun control and the governor does nothing with infastructure which is neeeded

Philly has gotten worse. The most depressed city to live in. The people here don’t care about the city, hence all the trash on the street. Crime!!?? You could be barbecuing on your porch and get shot by a stray bullet in the afternoon.. I get why you like the city though. Coming from S Jersey is a change. I’m from N Jersey and moved here in 2012 and leaving this year. Yeah, Real Estate investing is great but not to live.

my kid is buying house in Olde Kensington, I opposed it because it is so close to Kensington Ave. and has the same BAD name. But I was told Olde Kensington is nice area. May I have your opinion?

ure take on gentrification seems a little oversimplified and ignores the people forced out of their homes. the reason some dont own is BECAUSE of gentrification.

Real estate prices are dictated by supply and demand, so instead of worrying about demand which you can’t change, agitate for an end to single family zoning. Building more units will lower prices while at the same time making neighborhoods nicer. Rent control doesn’t fix anything.
Builders haven’t been able to catch up on news construction units since pre 2008 but hopefully that changes in the future because it’s obvious we need more housing
@@lillianchukwueze 100%. If more land were allowed to be developed into apartments, i’m sure developers would be able to catch up though. Whenever the law doesn’t get in the way, supply will meet demand.

How do you move to a position of ownership if the average black woman does not get paid enough to buy a home. Sometimes even if you have the money to buy a house there is so much discrimination when it comes to buying if you don't have the right skin color you may not be able to break into the market

Looking at Philadelphia because my wife has an opportunity to move with her work and we’re so tired of Seattle. Seattle is way too expensive, too mean, and nothing to do.
The new mayor who is a black woman said she will clean up Kensington. I’m hoping this is true right now it is worse thing about Philly. She said she is going to make Philly to be the cleanest, greenest and safest

People don’t own, because they can’t afford to own. Gentrification happens when neighborhoods are in turmoil. You don’t gentrify a nice neighborhood. I was born and raised there, and it is not some place that I would want to live.

Soon after I attained my degree I left killadelphia for good! Its a shame temple university and the other good universities are located in the ghetto slums. Anyways I’ve been so much happier now!

It’s like that in a lot of cities even where I’m from I worked in phili for two years and lived in LA New Orleans Houston San Diego and they all have schools in really messed up areas it’s a shame cause kids have to go through this LA doesn’t look like it’s rough but they have a major gang problem you have to watch what colors you wear and hats and shoes belong to some kind of gang and all they do is set trip and ride around killing even innocent people and even elderly

Your Video was very informative and you have a nice Aura about you however your view on gentrification is Off!!. I have lived in Philadelphia all of my life and I do have Much love for it. Philadelphia has become an extremely dangerous place to live. I didn't really feel this until last year😢. There is lots of historical places and Activities to do in Philly but You may get caught in Crossfire doing them or Carjacked on your way to the Event🔫. There are lots of Rodents in Philly also. Drugs and Opioids are problematic. I live on the Outskirts of Philly and enjoy it because Its still close to home. 🏠

I agree with you on gentrification! Instead of us complaining get on train ride. Gentrification improves neighborhoods whether we like it on not. Look at Fishtown for example.
