Ventrac 4500Y Plowing Deep Snow!

- This is a Ventrac 4500Y Kubota diesel pushing some deep snow with a Ventrac 72 inch blade. I apologize for the audio. I am slowly getting better at editing, The audio is the next step I am trying to figure out. That tractor is a snow plowing beast!
That is exactly the kind of snow I was plowing today here in Colorado. Relatively wet and heavy, and same depth as yours. On my 4500z, I engage the weight transfer which will take more weight off the plow and put more weight on the machine for more traction. As long as your blade will go to the ground on its own in float mode at a given weight transfer, you should be good to go, and with extra traction.
I have to plow on gravel, and weight transfer 2 seems to be about the sweet spot. If I use weight transfer 0, it starts to dig the gravel driveway. Blade will not go down on weight transfer 4, and, as my hydraulic fluid heats up, I can use a higher weight transfer.
Your Diesel did good especially considering you have the 72in blade. The v-plow would make it unstoppable. I appreciate your effort with all of your videos
Thanks. I am glad you said something about the weight transfer. I have been wanting to play around with that. You are right the blade wants to dig a bit in the gravel. I am going to try it out on number 2 and see how it does. On my Steiner 430 if I would just raise it up a tad in deep snow the snow would put down pressure on my blade and give me a lot of extra traction. Thanks again for the advice.

ventrac is like a tank, you are pushing a ton of snow, and with ease. admit it, if you were to do this for money, you'd put the blower on it. but good times none the less lol. well done.
A snowblower would have been the better choice for this snowfall for sure. The blade got the job done and gave me some more time on the tractor. Lol

Looks like it's doing pretty good , even in that deep powder . I don't see any ballast on your rig . I have a 2019 JD 2025r with a boom mounted snow blade . It does well with rear tires loaded but I do need more ballast . I like your tractor - nice video .
Thanks. There are 4 small weighrs on the rear. They are there all the time due to tractor having front attachments. They do make a ballast weight kit that mount right behind front tires, But it does pretty well stock. A friend of mine has a 2025R also. They are a great machine, He loves his.
Wow that’s a ton of snow, snow blower maybe better suited for that amount 👍🏻
I'll never understand why snow blades don't have wheels. Rear blades have gauge wheels. Much better than grinding blades into the road. Steiger sells wheels for its blades.
You can add Artillian rubber wings to widen the angled path.
My dad had avwheel kit on his Steiner blade. He sold it and now has a Ventrac with the poly edge. The wheels do work well.

It has a 25HP Kubota D902.

@Paolozzi Trucking LLC and the ventrac with dual wheels...that 758 dont want none of that...ill tug of war it title for title....ran a steiner 430 with duals...that thing would pull as much as a pickup truck
I noticed you are spinning a lot. I have found that momentum is the key when plowing. Do you have clearance to add tire chains or straps?
I do not think there is clearance for chains. The area I was on had a layer of ice built up from a earlier snow. More speed would have helped push through better.
Good video...would you have gotten better traction with 8 wheels on it?
I think the duels would give less traction. I think its better having more weight on the single wheels.
Did you have the weight transfer shifted all the way to the front ? Just asking since I’m thinking about purchasing a Ventrac and using it as well to plow my drive. What I don’t like is that Toro owns them and no longer a family business.....
@@tony8354586 I have the weight transfer set at 0. Glad you said that, I was wanting to try it with it on to see what it does with the blade. I was pretty upset when I hear about the Toro deal as well, But from what I have researched it will help them with a dealer network. I am not scared about the Toro deal.
@@tony8354586 Hi Tk. I bought the 4500Y (25 hp Kubota diesel) with the 72 inch blade, same as steiger256, in November 2020. Last week I received a personal note from Randy Kitzmiller, President of Ventrac, saying, "Welcome to the Ventrtac Family!". Still feels like a family business to me. I love my Ventrac compact tractor!
I am still learning to plow snow with this rig. I use low range and the weight transfer at about mid point.
Did you get the poly blade add on? What does that do? Maybe easier on the surface you’re working on?
No I did not get the poly blade. If I had a all concrete or blacktop drive I would have definetly got one. The poly is nice because you can scrape the conctete and not hurt it. I just use the steel cutting edge for little concrete I have, Then use the skags on the gravel.
@@steiger256 will the poly wear out if you were to get it? Any downside to having that? I’m in Texas. We never get snow. But after this storm we just had I feel like I want to get a set up to be ready the next time
@@jasonbarber8107 I cant remember how long they hold up. I think if you were only using it a few times a year it would last a long time. I can ask my dealer in a few weeks when I go there and give you a better answer.
