    In my opinion, bigger guys usually should try with heavier fabric so that it gives a better drip. Italian suit generally the construction is for slim guys, plus Italian fabric tend to be soft and light, to get a good fit is extremely hard. Even the body builder type of body tend to have harder time getting an Italian suit to look good on them. Try English suits with fuller cut might be able to help

      @@joejackson9986 Getting yourself to the gym - by the way, that's incredibly patronizing - isn't helpful advice if you're busy, arthritic, disabled, but still don't want to look like a slob. All of these things - and age - can cause the body to deteriorate, slump, fill out, taper outwards where modern cuts taper inwards. If you think you can avoid that, you're in for a surprise. In any event - good tailoring was devised in the first place to help people who don't have perfect bodies to look their best: that's what REAL tailors do. The people who make Suit Supply suits aren't real tailors - they lack the knowledge and flexibility.

    Ugh. I just ordered my first suit from SS last week. Like you I had an amazing experience in the store. The salesman never took my actual measurements. He just fitted me in a suit, which I thought was weird. But he certainly seemed to know like he knew what he was doing, so I just went with it. I'll update on how it turns out, but thanks to your vid I'll be inspecting the heck out of my new suit and not taking any guff if it's not perfect.

    Sorry to hear about this experience. As for me, I have had great experiences with suit supply. Fortunately , their OTR fits me perfectly and only the sleeves need to be minorly altered. I also tried their MTM and its also been a positive experience. All alterations are free for MTM but it doesnt make sense if you dont live by a location. Its a shame because that is something they should have told you upfront. You made a great point by saying maybe suit supply should do a bit more to ensure their customers get a perfect fit. Just my two cents, cheers.

      It could’ve been fixed fairly easily. Many MtM companies don’t have physical locations. But they respond to their emails.
      Maybe Suit Supply will see this video and work on their online followup. The fabric was great. Had they responded to my emails and worked with me on remaking the garments with issues, they would’ve been nice suits.

    Great review, appreciate the time you put into this. Personally, I don't think they really delivered on the value as it relates to the amount of cash you dropped on these suits. Great video. For those near a Brooks Brothers mortar, I'd advise waiting for one of their multiple-times-a-year 30-40% off sales---and picking up an 1818 suit there. You can then be confident, and have a tailor on the spot--may require a return visit and further tailoring. (Their sizing categories -- Madison/Regent, etc. -- are completely off the mark, so I would strongly advise not buying one online.)

    You and I have the same problem - we're not very young, slim, and nor are we ignorant of how trousers are supposed to fit. I looked at the Suit Supply website and knew as soon as I did that nothing they had to offer would fit me, because - like a lot of online tailors AND outfitters these days, they cut the trousers to sit on the hips: without exception; they know nothing about waists, and they also know nothing about traditional tailoring. They work on the basis of an assumption: that being that their customers are likely to in the 26 to just on 40 age range, with no experience of good tailoring, who will accept the cut offered because they know no better. In consequence, you see lots of younger men waddling around in garments that don't fit them, running a considerable risk of immediate emasculation if they sit down suddenly.
    It's fashion that has done this - youth-based, ignorant, incompetent fashion has bred a generation of tailors and cutters who can't tailor or cut to save their lives. Maybe this is what the younger generation wants.... I think it's more that they're leery of dressing like their fathers and grandfathers: but as a business model, I doubt that there's a longer term future in it, because these young men will get older, find that they can't squeeze their wedding equipment comfortably into trousers like these, feel the need for movement in the arms and shoulders, can't get it and will demand better from an industry whose skill levels have so declined that only the very best and very expensive tailors can make comfortable or appropriate clothing; and that's just a penance on all of us older men who just want a suit that looks good but doesn't throttle our essential organs.
    Fight them, Dad Bod, make them see how bad their cuts are, or they'll carry on churning out the same rubbish until bankruptcy hits them: as frankly, they deserve.

      @RobertJonesWightpaint Před 2 měsíci

      @@TheDadBod Even assuming their cutters could do it - and given they work from a template while pretending they work from the figure, I doubt that they could. Their sales assistants may be perfectly good at what they do, but if the cutting just doesn't include enough actual cloth where it matters, they'll repeat the mistake time after time: you (and I) will never get a good fit with trousers that are designed to sit on the hips.
      If you ever find a real tailor who makes clothes that fit with online modelling, let me know! I have had success with ITailor, by the way - because they use enough cloth, and I made it clear to them that I do not want slim-line clothing: they listened, and gave me room. Two suits, a shirt, and two pairs of trousers later, I've had no complaints. You do need to be quite specific though, when you're dealing with tailors who are miles (and mlles and miles) away from you - if the tailor never gets to see you in the flesh, it's a very good one indeed who can hope to meet your requirements: from what I could see of your experience, the sales staff tried - the cutters didn't. You didn't fit their mould, so - take what we decide you need; and you didn't. Good, that suit looked awful on you and you deserve better for the money you paid.

    I have two trousers from Suit Supply. One of the things I think isn't too good, is that they don't bother with crotch guards. Even cheap off-the-rack trousers include a crotch guard.
    I also just received a jacket from them. I chose white lining, which I have in other jackets, and is usually very nice.. but the lining Suit Supply used is thin, and you can see the construction through it... and the construction looks somewhat messy.
    Suit Supply has the best website and customization options...
    But what I found weird is that on their website, you can't put in your actual measurements. Instead, they want you to measure an existing jacket, and enter those numbers. What if the person doesn't have a perfectly fitting jacket already?. It is bizarre.

I gave them back with my updated measurements and also thought to try another sales associate for a second suit. The first suit after alteration is more tighter and the associate said, they cannot let it out more as there is no more fabric to do it. I was advised that not to button the jacket so it will be breathable. It was a horrible experience. The second suit was way too loose. I have given it to my local tailor to get it right. Every time I’ve bought what ended up being “favorite clothing” item I knew immediately when I put it on. This was the case when I bought my first pair of Alden boots. I now wear Alden boots pretty much every day unless I need another look.
      I have bought and sold men’s clothing for decades. Any time you order without trying on first(the actual item not demo) there is a very real chance it’s not going to give you that “must own” sensation. From your response you are either ordering suits to make videos or you are of the belief you can order a suit online with measurements and it’s going to fit correctly.
      There is simply too many variables and too many links in the chain.
      There is no substitute to simply trying on a lot of suits then buying only when you know it’s right. If you have to think about it it is ALWAYS the wrong item to purchase. With great clothes , IMO, you’ll know right away. If I’m buying online I always prefer stock suits, not tailors so I can return it without hassle. When I do online orders I typically return 2/3 of what I buy. I have no problem spending a lot, buying many options and returning everything that’s not immediately “must own”.
      I had a girlfriend many years ago who taught me a good rule. Don’t bring anything into your house unless you love it. If we can maintain the discipline to do that we’ll be surrounds by things we love.
      The absolute best suit will always come from working with a master tailor who knows you.
      I don’t wear suits so much anymore. Like most people I dress more casually. I find I’m in the spotlight plenty for work so sneaking around not looking the part is just easier for me.
      Sometimes it’s just luck. I’ve had a few amazing clothes from lesser brands and some real dogs from high end brands.
      What is always consistent is that first instinct before you have a chance to analyze.
      Thanks for making the videos

    It sounds to me like the major issues are not with the suit, but with the measurements. You had a great experience when getting the measurements, but if the measurements were off none of that matters. Your biggest mistake was having the suit delivered to you instead of your local Suit Supply. You would have had an opportunity to try the suit on again before accepting it. If it did not fit at that point you could have sent the suit back for remake without accepting it.

      Oh, gotcha. I put that info in the video description.
      They never responded to my emails about sizing and manufacturing issues. To this day.
      I ended up requesting a refund. Their website said I had to pay $1,000 in VAT taxes to send them back. I emailed them again and submitted for the return.
      I got a confirmation email saying I’d get like 1800 of the 2300 that I paid back. But never gave me a return label. It said it had one attached but it didn’t.
      Then, I emailed them again.
      They finally responded saying I’d get the full amount paid back and they included the return label.
      I shipped them back and waited a few weeks. Nothing.
      I emailed them, nothing.
      I got their WhatsApp number to call them from their website, it is missing a number so it doesn’t work.
      I messaged them on social media.
      Finally, they responded saying they’d contact the warehouse and get it taken care of.
      A few days later the warehouse processed the return for one pair of trousers and the vest. I waited longer and nothing. So I messaged them a few more times. Finally, they processed the rest of the return.
      Supposedly, it’s better when you can drive back there and have them fix your measurements and garments in a store but it’s not worth driving 12 hours round trip to get that done for me.
      I’m ordering a couple of suits from Black Lapel next week (hoping for a 4th of July sale) to try them out instead.

    I think the huge issue is do you wear Italian suits because Italian suits are going to fit your body completely different, Italian suits they’re traditionally made for guys that are on the slimmer side and a bit taller not extremely tall and extremely big so at the end of the day the suit will always fit different if your body type isn’t fitting the construction they are being made for I am a female and you’re a man so it’s completely different but I go to Suitsupply all the time I’m 510 I weigh 150 and a 36S fits me perfectly with no tailoring the length of the pants are perfect the length of the blazer is always perfect and it fits perfect on my chest area The pants for me or a 30 and the pants I don’t even need a belt with I feel like people watching this video should definitely take it with a grain of salt because Suitsupply fits different body types differently I feel like that’s the huge issue wow there are some men that enjoy wearing their suits tighter such as how it is in the video I feel like it doesn’t look good on you particularly it looks more uncomfortable

      Typically wide lapels look better on bigger guys. It makes things look a little more proportional. Within moderation. 1970s wide is a bit much for anyone these days. Same with the opposite, slim lapels and slim ties don’t often look best on bigger guys because it makes us look even bigger. That being said, I usually go with standard width lapels but I’m in the mood to add another wide width to my closet.

    • @KomradeKrusher
      @KomradeKrusher Před 10 měsíci

      Hard disagree. Small lapels on a broad chest (maybe with a broad face above as well) tend to look comically small. It's those small lapels that exaggerate those features and draw attention to them. 3.5 to 3-75 inches is a very classic width for lapels and balance out a broader frame.

    I'm sorry you had such a bad experience. I have a question: Did you buy their off-the-rack suit and have them adjusted to your sizes or were these suits from their custom-made program? I am watching several youtubers to form an opinion on whether to buy a SuitSupply suit or not. Not quite sure yet. Reviews are mixed, ranging from very happy buyers to bad experience like you. The guy from the channel The Modest Man had a not so good experience with their off-the-rack suit + adjustment, but was very happy with their custom-made program. 🤔

    They didn't measure the crouch correctly. Pants should be measured at or a inch below the belly button.

    They are complete garbage . Ask for a complete refund . Decent fabrics horrible Chinese construction and they are clueless when it comes to fittings. This is exactly why I hate when they use the word custom its so misleading.
    Just because someone can measure you does not mean they know how to fit someone .

      I liked my MST (MySuitTailor) suit. Was a two piece, I think they do 3 piece suits. I think around $500ish last I checked.
      I still love my first 3 piece, Oliver wicks. Probably more like $900.
      It’ll probably be another month but I’m waiting on a 2 piece black lapel suit and a blazer. Not sure how good they are yet but I’ve heard good things. Probably about 1,000

    Your physique is very difficult to work with, you got a big gut and kinda skinny legs in comparison. Try and get fit and magically everything will suit you, or go to a real bespoke shop on the row or something. Hope this will be a wake up call.

      @TheDadBod  Před 5 měsíci

      I’ve been able to get proper fitting suits from several custom made companies. And I can get off the rack and have it tailored to fit better. There’s no reason the suit should be that messed up in the back and shoulders because I have a gut or skinny legs (I don’t have skinny legs).

      Well, let’s see. Wrist issues from a car accident in 2003. I was in a cab. Lower back issues from the same accident. I was in a wheelchair for months. Shin issues from an idiot doctor while in the military. He misdiagnosed my as having simple shin splints. I didn’t. Shoulder issues from football in high school. Oh, and I’ve got a resting heart rate of 145 that I’ve been going from doctor to doctor to diagnose for 2 years and I finally have a diagnosis and surgery scheduled… in 3 months.
