    As usual, more of the great motivation and enthusiasm. I haven’t been out for awhile now, but your videos always seem to give me more of the kick in the a** I need to get out… lol. Awesome to see that you’re able to use your camera and get to shooting again.

      Yeah its been working but the LCD is shot. So hopefully it continues to shoot until I can get a new one. Thanks for watching, bro. Glad to hear Harvey didn't need surgery.

    Great. Starts simple and with basics. Plus actually researching the subject. During cull and process I go back and enter into my notes the setting that worked the best for that situation.

    Also with journals what has helped me is a writing what birds I was going after and if a particular setting worked. I learned this when I was shooting hockey and baseball photos. Im not affiliated but I like Field Notes books. Like you mentioned if you go to a local park or game preseve ask the game wardens or the people who work the refuge for questions on the area and they are usually super excited to share their knowledge. They also (at least here) will point on the maps where the activity is really up. They have a vested interest in helping us LOL

    Bro your channel kept me going all winter long. Thank you. The end of last year I upped my gear game. Shortly after I found out I need knee replacement surgery. Then the wetlands area I shoot in dried up. And then my adventure vehicle died. I spent the winter learning how my gear works and ordering parts for my adventure vehicle. I should have the adventure vehicle on the road in a couple of weeks. All winter I shot birds on my feeder setup and got some serious education on shooting small birds. Things are coming together and I'm looking forward to a trip to FL and some gators this Summer. Hopefully with a new knee to keep up with the rest of me. lol Keep up the good work man.

    Kevin, I love the style of this video. I live about an hour from the places you visit and I enjoy trying to recognize where you are shooting! I made a few trips up there this winter and never did find those darn river otters! I can’t wait for the big upcoming migration. I’ll keep an eye out for you in the crowds! 😂. Being in nature is so good for mental health. I’ve got a shirt that says this so well. “ In to the woods I go to lose my mind and find my soul”. Happy Shooting!

    I rarely follow the guide of 3rds and as a wildlife photographer, I got into macro and nature this spring as things started to flower, and yes have as little gear as possible, I have a Sigma 150-600mm, EF24-105 and a Helios 58mm f/2 for my camera and its all I want, I can carry it all in a small camera bag if I want or just sling the Sigma and call it a wildlife only day.

    Went to the USDA grounds today hoping for pictures of goslings. Not yet, but like the shots of adult Canada Geese I took from my van.
    Got the bird field guides today - thanks for the recommendations.

    Love your videoes! I only have a 100-400, but i feel like thats never enough. Gonna start saving up for a new lense, but do you have any thoughts about the Canon RF 200-800mm? Its cheaper than the 100-500mm, but the apperture is much higher.

    • @KevinNordstrom
      @KevinNordstrom  Před 4 měsíci +2

      Thank you! As for the 200-800 I'm not sure. I never used the lens. I don't have plans to purchase it either as I'm happy with the 100-500 until I can save up for an f4. I've heard good things about the 200-800 though. The slower f9 could be an issue at dawn or dusk....but so can 7.1 at times. There's a lot of reviews on CZcams already on it. The reach is tempting though. Every photographer has different needs. Sorry I Wish I could be more of help.

      I own the 100-500 with the R5. Best lens I’ve ever had. Lightweight, water resistant, sharp. Great minimum focus, allows macro type photos, and still can do landscapes at 100 mm. I’m passing on the 200-800, as I would have to sell my 100-500 to get it. I own the 1.4 tc and don’t enjoy carrying that all the time due to the added weight. I’m very interested in a new camera. Full frame with decent built in crop would be amazing. Also looking forward to what the R7ii might bring. The 100-500 stays in my bag as long as I shoot Cannon!
