Hard to choose a bad song of Level 42. This one was the 1st one I ve Heard from them when I was a teen in France, that was it Level 42 have been in my life since then. Great band.
Wish I knew then that the guy I sat next to, when at Cowes high school on, the isle of Wight... Would go on to make such great songs like this and many others.. Still see Mark out and about, to this day..and have a laugh about life, back in the day. Nice bloke Mark King.
Take me back to the 80’s when decades were actually individual and all had their own unique characteristics, their own styles, and sounds. Things were being discovered and invented, their was an air of optimism and hope as to what the future might hold. Now the future is here and the 2010’s are no different to what the 2000’s were like. People don’t talk to each other anymore and we live our lives through a screen on a computer or phone, too busy caring too much about what others think of us. We are told what to think, everyone looks the same and everything sounds the same. With the “music machine” churning out the same old crap rap, dance and r&b songs daily, auto tuned beyond recognition. Take me back to the good old days! - Rant over!
Ah yes. North Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, and Muslims were so much easier to categorize then. Hmm? We're talking about music? That is what I'm talking about. Well the 50s music put an emphasis on unknown fears and family, the 60s had more emphasis on ballads and making children, the 70s was all about dancing and throwing your cares away, the 80s had songs full of power sentiment, and the 90s discovered electro music and proceeded to make most of their songs sound the same. It's almost as if every decade of pop music had a political agenda for making countries seem stronger and boosting population against your enemies! Now that there are thousands of artists out there desperate for someone to give their music a listen, it's sooooo hard to find good music these days when you're too lazy to open your search bar. Get over yourself. The individualized styles of the singular decades you're talking about are only the surface level pop music the radio taught you. Even then if you took the time to search around you'd find hundreds of experimental music ahead of their time that older generations wouldn't give the time of day. P.S the early Beetles work sucked until their Japanese tour when they realized they actually had to practice and hone their craft, then they were great. -rant over.
This is an exceptionally well-produced song. Although it has a distinct 80's sound it's not a cheap quality production and has aged very well. I'm glad I was born in the last decade where actual talent, not shock factor and sex appeal, sold records and the results were so outstanding. Not everyone had the huge sales of Michael Jackson or Whitney Houston but the standards were often equally as high. Until we can get back to focusing on the gems that lie within ordinary looking people we'll overlook the next Elton John's, Phil Collins and Level 42's who could write such great pieces of music with capturing lyrics. I feel very deprived looking at the Top 10 albums and singles nowadays.
I wish I could go back because I don't know about anyone else but I don't like these days and living in these times, they seem like they were better days back then. Take me back!
I saved up my pocket money, which was 50p a week in 1985, and went and bought this on 12''....me and my best mate Chris used to sing this and play our 'bass guitar' tennis rackets.....we were 13! Great times! I told Mark King this when I met him at a Football charity event at The Grosvenor hosted by David Beckham. Mark was brilliant and had all the time in the world to chat.....wasnt allowed to have a photo coz I was working....gutted! I LOVE LEVEL 42!!
From songfacts: The music video of "Something About You" is directed by Stuart Orme, who also directed videos for the Level 42 songs "Lessons in Love" and "Running in the Family", as well as Phil Collins and Genesis. The music video appears in their video album Family of Five, released in 1987. Mark King appears as a dark clown magician, representing the negative aspects in the relationships of Mike Lindup, Phil and Boon Gould with their girlfriends, all played by actress Cherie Lunghi.
@@MattLeader Thanks, because of your comment I checked it on IMDB. You are absolutely right and that's why the B/W train scenes and camera movement looks so ahead of it's time.
I was born in 1970, so the early 80's were great years for me. I remember it like a soft-focus, sunlight drenched dream-like memory. All my senses & physicality were at 100%. I had an optimistic, playful, positive view of the world. It all seemed so much better and more fun then. This wonderful song was important to me then, and is important to me now. Oh, to be young again.

If ever our love was concealed
No one can say that we didn't feel
A million things
And a perfect dream of life
Gone, fragile but free
We remain tender together
If not so in love, it's not so wrong
We're only human after all

yes the great music will live on.
i couldnt agree more rip boon gould
Grande Level 42 !!!!
How, how can it be
That a love carved out of caring
Fashioned by fate could suffer so hard
From the games played once too often
But making mistakes is a part of life's imperfection
Born of the years
Is it so wrong to be human after all?
Drawn into the stream of undefined illusion
Those diamond dreams, they can't disguise the truth
That there is something about you, baby, so right
I wouldn't be without you, baby tonight
If ever our love was concealed
No one can say that we didn't feel
A million things and a perfect dream of life (gone) fragile but free
We remain tender together
If not so in love
And it's not so wrong, we're only human after all
These changing years, they add to your confusion
Oh and you need to hear the time that told the truth
That there is something about you, baby so right
Don't want to be without you, baby tonight
Because there's something about you, baby, so right
I couldn't live without you, baby, tonight
And that there's something about you, yeah
And I couldn't be without you, tonight
Thanks for saving me a click. Well done!
Thanks for lyrics
Thanks so much 👍
A huge hit in Brazil. Good memories. Wonderful music. 😭🇧🇷
Love this song, cracking video also
I would say the bass player made a significant contribution to making this song a legend.
I tend to agree with you.
Happy memories ❤
Esa canción fue un éxito.
- Rant over!
wow, couldn't have put it better!
you could have written that for me. so so true. thanks for sharing.
-rant over.

@@DecafInvidia 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Completely agreed, rich in production values and not made in a bedroom which is why it stand up today unlike most of the trash now. Fantastic song.
Agreed. Well put.
Matthew Charlery-Smith everything is about so called "star quality" today...
Hate the fact that I have to agree with you on this. But at least we can all agree that this is a great song
I just realized 2061 is as close as 1985. 😳
That can’t be true 🫨
From songfacts:
The music video of "Something About You" is directed by Stuart Orme, who also directed videos for the Level 42 songs "Lessons in Love" and "Running in the Family", as well as Phil Collins and Genesis. The music video appears in their video album Family of Five, released in 1987.
Mark King appears as a dark clown magician, representing the negative aspects in the relationships of Mike Lindup, Phil and Boon Gould with their girlfriends, all played by actress Cherie Lunghi.
wasn't the cinematographer on this video the great Roger Deakins?
@@MattLeader Thanks, because of your comment I checked it on IMDB. You are absolutely right and that's why the B/W train scenes and camera movement looks so ahead of it's time.
Brilliant. Thank ypyy

Verão de 85 foi mágico! Música boa, amigos legais, sem preocupações, etc.
Música que marcou minha adolescência. Estava começando a sair. Muito bom lembrar!
Reminds me of the days after school in the late 80s when we would go and choose a movie from the video library around the corner. They used to play a lot of Level 42 in the background there.
One of the very best, most peculiarly British bands ever.
Quem aí gosta desta obra prima musical levanta a mão e deixa sua bandeira.

1986..i was 23 years old..now 54..and I still enjoy this song..and others
Hi, I´m from 1962, and met my wife in 1986, pure nostalgia and good memories with this song.
I was ten and I still remember level 42 very well
Mark King & the Level 42 band. Best ever from the 80's!
The essence of the 80s is this song and those synthesized choruses and arrangements.
Transports me back to my teenage years and all the people i remember at the time . Memories of mates and girlfriends that you lost touch with . Long summer days and everything was carefree and easier . Take me back
