My dad was tragically taken from me on the 30th of April 2020 in a car crash. He adored level 42, he has kept all his ticket stubs and book. He must of seen them over 50 times. The music is the only thing making me feel close to him.

How how can it be that a love
Carved out of caring fashioned by fate
    Could suffer so hard
From the games played much too often
But making mistakes is a part
    Of life's imperfections
    Born of the years
Is it so wrong to be human after all
    (Oh drawn into the stream)
    (Of undefined illusion)
    (Those diamond dreams)
    (They can't disguise the truth)
That there is something about you
    Baby so right
    I wouldn't be without you
    Baby tonight
If ever our love was concealed
No one can say that we didn't feel
    A million things
And a perfect dream of life
    Gone, fragile but free
    We remain tender together
If not so in love, it's not so wrong
    We're only human after all
    (Oh these changing years)
    (They add to your confusion)
(Oh and you need to hear the time)
    (That told the truth)
    Because there's something about you
(And now the way you are tonight)
    Baby so right
    I couldn't live without you
    (I couldn't live without you)
    Baby tonight!
    (Here tonight)
    Yeah
(Ooh-ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh)
(Ooh-ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh)
And now there's something about you
(Ooh-ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh)
    Yeah Yeah
And I couldn't live without you
(Ooh-ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh)

    [Verse 1: Mark King]
How, how can it be that a love
Carved out of caring, fashioned by fate
    Could suffer so hard
From the games played once too often?
    But making mistakes
Is a part of life's imperfections
    Born of the years
Is it so wrong to be human after all?
    [Pre-Chorus]
    Drawn into the stream
    Of undefined illusion
    Those diamond dreams
    They can't disguise the truth
    [Chorus]
That there is something about you
    Baby so right
I wouldn't be without you baby tonight
    [Verse 2: Mark King]
If ever our love was concealed
No one can say that we didn't feel
    A million things
And a perfect dream of life
    Gone, fragile but free
    We remain tender together
    If not so in love
    It's not so wrong
    We're only human after all
    [Pre-Chorus]
    These changing years
    They add to your confusion
Oh and you need to hear
The time that told the truth
    [Chorus]
    Because there's something about you
    Baby so right
    I couldn't be without you
    Baby tonight
I know there's something about you
    Baby
And I couldn't live without you
    Tonight

This is an exceptionally well-produced song. Although it has a distinct 80's sound it's not a cheap quality production and has aged very well. I'm glad I was born in the last decade where actual talent, not shock factor and sex appeal, sold records and the results were so outstanding. Not everyone had the huge sales of Michael Jackson or Whitney Houston but the standards were often equally as high.
Until we can get back to focusing on the gems that lie within ordinary looking people we'll overlook the next Elton John's, Phil Collins and Level 42's who could write such great pieces of music with capturing lyrics. I feel very deprived looking at the Top 10 albums and singles nowadays.
