    This is a quick, down and dirty video about how to bypass your mower seat switch! This is something we all get aggravated with when we are out mowing. You want to pick up a stick or dog toy in the yard and well......you have to kill the blades, throttle down and get off the mower. How about we forget about that painful process?!

    FYI guys. If your seat switch has the incoming wires (often more than 2) encapsulated in a plug of some sort, simply unplugging it may not allow the motor to run. There is another switch in the plug itself that either opens or closes the circuit so that you cannot defeat the switch. It may be necessary to either cut the wires or else connect the wires to make the motor start and run.

  • @Lou8430
    @Lou8430 Před 2 lety +2

    I use just a plain paper clip, stick it in both ends of the wire works fine and like you said if you got to take it to the shop unplug the paper clip and put it back in the switch

  • @crauchle

    The seat safety wouldn’t bother me so much but mine on my zforce 54” is apparently so sensitive if I hit a decent sized bump moving at moderate speed it will kill the pto every time. So annoying and I plan to disengage it for that reason. If I can figure it out that is, think mine has 4 or five wires if I’m not mistaken

  • @unitedairforcepilot
    @unitedairforcepilot Před 5 lety +18

    Or just unscrew the safety switch under the seat. It acts as a push button. Once out, wrap some duck tape around it to temporarily keep the button down.

    We have a 2013 Magnum 2250 Dixie Chopper that has a seat delay switch which goes out about twice a year. This is in addition to or extra to the under the seat safety seat switch, they are not the same thing. We would like to know if you've had any experience bypassing this switch or know anything about them they have no markings what so ever and are 3 pronged. When this delay switch goes out the mower will start but can not be driven.

    • @TheDurbinCompound
      @TheDurbinCompound  Před 3 lety

      I don’t have any experience with the Dixie choppers. Haven’t even sat on one. A wiring diagram should be able to help you out. You can figure out the switch by disconnecting it from the wires, if it acts the same as it did without you sitting on the seat then the switch is designed to close the circuit. So you just have to determine which wires to connect together. You could try connecting all three together and see what it does. May blow a fuse if it isn’t supposed to be wired like that but you can test it and see which combo works

    With my John Deere I cut the three wires after pulling the Jumper wire out that is on the seat switch. This leaves three wires. I was then not sure which two wires to tie together and tape them. One is a ground wire right? One is mostly white with a thin black stripe, one is mostly black with a white stripe and one is solid black.

      Hum sounds like a goofy setup. I’m sure it is grounding out the ignition if it spins but won’t fire. I don’t expect it would be super complicated. Try unplugging the connector and see if it fires. If it doesn’t, then wires need to be connect to complete the circuit.

    I expect this mower will last several seasons with decent care. czcams.com/users/postUgkx1VWTrayKBdCKAjzAcZ_Eg4dhHTae3LkN also recommend Also, I ran across the problem with it not starting the 2nd time I used it. There is a safety switch which is pushed in by the chute or mulching piece being attached to the deck. I took the cover off and it wouldn't start. Put it back on, no problem. It takes only a minute with 2 easily accessible wingnuts and no tools. This mower starts up first crank each time and it is a joy to use. It also mows in reverse by putting the key to the reverse area after starting and pushing in the triangular button. It will stay in reverse mode until you turn it off. All in all, for my homeowner needs, I really like this mower-and at 70 bucks a cut here in Miami, it's already more than 1/3 paid for itself in a month.

    Gas is full

    What do you think the problem will be?
    The above tip was too easy.

    • @TheDurbinCompound
      @TheDurbinCompound  Před 5 lety

      Does the mower crank over? If it doesn’t, then you have a switch or fuse tripped somewhere (handlebars, blade PTO, seat switch). If it does crank over, you need 3 things for it fire. Fuel, air, and spark. If it ran for 14 minutes, I would think your air and spark would be good and I would check the fuel line for flow. Disconnect the fuel line right at the carburetor and make sure it is flowing fuel. It can gum up pretty easily. Report back or research some videos on how to diagnose your problem. I do not have a video like that but I will make one soon.

      I totally agree with mike dominick on this issue. In fact my Dad who is no longer with us had removed the switch on one of our tractor's and added a jumper bypassing the seat pressure switch. When I took over using it I purchased a new safety and installed it in case I sell the tractor [ To You Know Who.] Yes people who don't read the manuals or just don't take the time to think before acting and are not so mechanically inclined! Just the sensible thing to do IMO!

      Thanks Don_ECHOguy........Have_At_IT. Geez man calling me an idiot really for preaching safety....you are obviously not in a position in your life where you would be the person responsible in notifying the parents or next of kin that their loved one is in the hospital or worse....and judging by your comments to my posts you would probably be the reason that someone responsible would have to deliver the bad news. The only idiot here would be yourself and actually I would lecture you in person. Safety is priority 1 and I make this clear to my employees everyday. Good luck to you in life...sounds like you will need it.

      @@mikedominick2172 Not a problem mate. There are a lot of inexperienced folks out there with equipment who need some help and knowledge and they don't even know it.
