Have you considered looking into Praetorian Guardlance+? I've been playing with it recently and I think it has potential as an alternative to Torci. 40 more raw is very significant and I've been able to deal more melee damage than Torci consistently, and I run Daora Soul rampage decoration instead of Exploit Decoration to help with Affinity and it still hits harder.
And how is shelling dmg when compared?
@@krzysztof6591 they're both Normal Level 8. At worst you lose 5% Shelling from loss of Exploit Decorations for better raw damage to make up for that
It's a solid gunlance like all the 8's have a unique advantage. The extra 40 raw means EC buff gives you 12 extra raw for free, you'll find most gunlances even the level 7=< Shelling all balance around the same damage some slightly higher or lower depending on the monster and playstyle, but the reason pyra is favored in speedrunning is due to its affinity and blast (besides being level 8) when you are trying to squeeze in as many skills as possible, building affinity takes a huge chunk away from other things while pyra gets to 100 with wex and 2 maxmight so you can get to critboost power spike, your highest damage increase. (Besides sneakattack)
The higher damage offered from praetorian is not consistent and if it is at 100 affinity because of daora you still do slightly less (1 damage per second less to be exact on a GOOD hitzone when pyra is in purple) and are probably sacrificing other skills the speedrunner has to get that extra 25 affinity you are still missing. This ontop of blast provided by pyra its already lost.
Unlike other gunlances that have can overcompensate for lower shelling damage with element or status praetorian is just tieing for damage.
For this run in particular he wanted 100 affinity and wex wasn't an option which made pyra even more favorable, something higher raw loses out on against tough hitzones.
With all that said looking at this speedrun and the fact he choose razorsharp means half the run he is in white, that gives praetorian the upperhand by a small amount like 9 dps or something.
Maybe he has some kind of damage calculator to see if the blast and half time in purple out damages the consistent white of praetorian its a pretty close call regardless. Counting from when he gets to white to capture: is 72 seconds, so assuming perfect uptime and non stop attacking thats 642 damage lost, that 3 blast procs is worth so i'd say pyra is still favorable here. Because there were pauses between hits, this number is even more in pyra's favor. In a theoretical scenario where you get 100 affinity with praetorian using daora you do slightly less damage than 80 affinity and exploit on average.
True that 15% affinity with critboost 3 is 6% more damage but instead, criting AND having exploit is even better because you get shelling boost too which does add up. In a speed run setting why choose one if you can have both is what im saying.
If gunlancers would finally start using adrinoline dongo for these freestyle submissions then we might see praetorian more and other level 7s even for better times overall as blast would start losing its value to pure raw.
It's honestly insane that gunance times are so close to other blademaster times without using heroics at all, kinda broken if you ask me
