    Saw this loco mentioned in a book in the 1960s and wondered about them. I'm amazed that RR in the USA didn't adopt the Garratt loco which has advantage in terms of simplicity and large boiler capacity.

    Considering where ATSF ran those things, everything out there was converting to oil by the 1920's anyway. They ran west out of Wellington before that like line was a transcon. The Belen cutoff didn't come along till about 1929 or so.
