Secondly, he calles the league office to get their rationale on their decision to not suspend him, because normally those actions would be a suspension. That is his job. He covers the NBA, he is a reporter and an on-air personality. When the league explained their rationale that was the end of it.

    Stephen A contradicted himself. There’s a big difference between calling the league to ask about a heavy handed punishment vs. calling the league to ask why they didn’t give a punishment.
    I believe those things are opposites.

Westbrook was wilding on that play, the NBA as a organization has to explain why what he did wasn’t a suspendable offense so when your favorite player does it later in these playoffs or it happens to your team, the league has a clear precedent.

    This is silly. Stephen A Smith was a reporter before he was a talking head on TV. He's not in the "streets." Calling the league office is something reporters do on a regular basis. I'm sure he has a ton of other tactics that he uses that people "checking in" wouldn't agree with. His job is based on getting inside info, not "keeping it hood."
