This call got right to the core of me. I got into a financial crisis some time back. I started working 80 hour work weeks and now I dont know how to turn it off. I love the money and the independence it signifies for my family. Being a man isnt easy. You try to sacrifice for your family and sometimes you sacrifice yourself.
Everyone sacrifices. Nothing to do with being a man. Your family is suffering more than you I can guarantee that.
I hope you find a way because time is infinitely more valuable than money.
This country don't need no men.
Most of the people that call into Dave's show are pretty irresponsible, but this guy's willingness to work for his family is certainly admirable.
God, this is a MAN. He's working 13 hour days to get his family set up right, and he cares so much about the impact it has on his wife that he's going to do even MORE to help her at home with zero complaints or excuses. I'm gonna go fold some laundry and just reflect on this call, man.

Totally relate. I worked EIGHT days per week when I had to for my family ... received not only zero respect but also contempt.
I’m in the middle of an 18hr shift, before I left home I did house cleaning and I’m even considering a second job. I’m not gonna say I miss treated at home, but reading these comments makes me kind of proud of myself.
This is a tough call, but the fact that he's calling means he's under significant stress at home. I think he should pump the breaks on the side hustle before a figurative fire starts in his family. Even gazelles stop to drink water.

I’m glad I’m able to work the jobs I have now and do school. Once I have a family, that “free time” goes away
It depends on a person's family situation, but my family understood my absence when I had to work extra jobs to get ahead. Now, I am just blessed to be able to make progress with one job. Even when you are hustling, you have to take occasional time off to enjoy your family. Tomorrow is not promised.
People create their own situations.
It's hard being a single mother w two jobs and have time for family ! Do what you need now so you can have time when they are older and really need you !!!😁😁😁😁😁😁

She could always pick up a once a week thing on the weekends so that he can spend a day with the kids
Make her a to do list. She will appreciate it that you did all the thinking

When I was a kiddo (lonnng ago) my Father told me if a man can't make a living in 40 hours there is something wrong. I see in the world there is plenty wrong.
Your father is correct, however sometimes things are out of our control.
I think it’s really hard for single moms working 40 hours
I can relate to this guy, my fiance is hesitant to go gazelle intense to pay off debt because she thinks it'd waste our best years. It takes a lot to explain to her that 30 year old her will thank her for sticking through it. I'm bringing about 70k in student loans and the goal is to pay that off within 2-3 years or less if we make a great household income.
Context: She hates the idea of working 80 hrs because her parents did the same when she was a kid (and still do because they're workaholics) and she doesn't want to wish that onto our future kids. Basically, she doesn't wanna feel like a single mom and she doesn't want to miss the baby years when we have kids because we have debt
If you dont make enough. She will leave. If you work to much to provide. She leaves.

How much of that work is to sustain the lifestyle his family is used to? Sometimes less material things means more sanity.
"Fewer" material things. But yes you have a point.
I know too many married people with 2-5 kids debt free and living within means home schooling, traveling, camping, hiking, etc. with their kids.
Even the home is close to being paid off or already paid for. Husband works 3-4 days a week and/or taking off work without pay with healthy emergency fund.
Been watching these people doing this for up to 30 years as there kids grow. One of these kids is my primary care physician.
The thing all of these people had in common was kids being priority.
They also never watched or or even heard of Dave Ramsey.
If he's working the debt snowball, he shouldn't be doing anything lavish at this point anyway.
2-3 jobs, that's the American dream right there. Amirite?

Or, push to get some overtime at the day job so you get time and a half or double time. It would add up quick on a welder’s pay

He was a good man, I think Dave needs to give him a second chance. To show the people that people make mistakes and can grow from them.
We worked fulltime and went to school part-time while we had two kids. Just do it.
The scary thing is she could easily leave him and he still would be be working for a family he never sees anyways.

I feel more with the wife though if she feels single that is a huge red flag she is learning to live without you
Easy to feel that way when you have a man breaking his back to provide everything. She sounds horrible. Why can't she work then and he get a break at home.
It's a tricky balance, isn't it? I grew up in a home where my Dad was working away a LOT or was always working from dawn til' dusk and I know my Mother felt like a single parent. This wasn't a short-term thing, this was the majority of my childhood and I remember playing house and dolls as a Single-parent family. Short term, this is sustainable but long-term is terminal for the relationships involved. I didn't have a relationship with my Dad until my Mum died when I was 28. All relationships are different, too. Some partners really rely on and draw strength from their spouse and some, like my Mum was, are more independent. I couldn't be parted from my Husband like my Mother was from my Father xx
@@milesmeralis5334 Do you know how expensive childcare is? They might barely break even if she's working plus paying for babysitting. She's saving them money by being with the kids, cleaning and making meals so they are going out.
So unfair for the husband, he is sacrificing his back and 75% of his life working trying to provide for his family. If the wife is unhappy she should try to do a side job and also bring in some money, what more can he do? Does the wife want her kids on the street?

Nice video!! Very engaging from beginning to end. Nevertheless, businesses and investment are the easiest way to make money irrespective of which party makes it to the oval office.
Never get a 2nd job. Work to live don't live to work.

Never get a 2nd job sounds like a terrible blanket rule. There's many circumstances when that's the best option. Not forever, but for a little bit to get to a goal faster or to open up more opportunities if it's in an industry you're trying to break into. Time is money, if you wanna put in more time to make more money it's a choice you can definitely make. Especially if you're single no kids.
