Thanks Annie, it was a very interesting exhibition! Nice to see that Poland cares so much about their folk history, because this is definitely not a cheap project!!

I live only 15km away from this museum, and only a few months ago I realized that this exhibition even exists. During the visit, I played a bit on that "try me" gurdy, and a decision was made that day: I had to get such an instrument for myself. I ordered a Nerdy Gurdy, and it's been 4 months since I started playing on it. I'm not a musician so it will take me some time to learn, but this is perhaps one of the most enjoyable hobbies I ever picked up.
Most of the text on the wall is referring to gurdies from Eastern Europe (Ukraine, eastern parts of Poland, but not only) from the 19th century. Back then this instrument was an attribute of a wandering bard, usually blind, who could see the future and who would tell stories (or sing) about dark events that await us, while playing dreadful tunes on his gurdy. Such wandering bards were beggars, yet they were held in high respect in villages and the countryside. Many of those paintings are portraying them in similar manner - wind in their hair, unsettling and mystic atmosphere, worried people listening to them. Quite fascinating. If anyone needs translation of those wall texts, I can do that here in the comments.
    Cheers

Awesome video, Sergio! Thank you for sharing this with us, and especially for taking the very long journey to get there. This is so interesting and I never would have been able to see it otherwise.

What an adventure 😆 they are very beautiful! I also would much like to read what they displayed in Polish, couldn't someone or even they translate it so it can touch more people ? It seems very interesting. Thank you Sergio!

Tim Burton should make a creepy film about a ghostly hurdy gurdy player using you as a caricature.......we need more gurdy features in life !

Cool video! It looked like that organistrum had regular gurdy keys, rather than keys you pull up on? Pretty interesting.
Also don't forget you can use your phone to read the text! Your camera should have a translate button somewhere.

Yes! There were organistrum where you pull, also some kind of lever action keys where you push forward and also some like this one in the video

Hi everyone! Is there a book in English or in Italian to learn to play gurdy? And a community online in which I can speak with other players? Love to all! ❤
