- Historic old farm house built around 1840-1845, lots of fireplaces and a pretty double front porch, beautiful architecture from the 1800’s left in the living room along the bottom of the walls. Very unique design. Thanks for watching

It’s so sad. Someone once took great pride in their home. The old folks died off, people came and took anything worth money, left the rest for vandals and thieves, and simply left the structure to decay and nature to reclaim.
Plenty in the dirt I'm sure. Kappy needs to start swinging a detector at these sites.
You can just imagine how beautiful that home once was. The porches and all the fireplaces are so amazing. So sad to see it look so rundown.

Well that busy highway right next to this old lady was like the indignity of a freeway running through a graveyard. Rest in what peace you can, old house. Early to mid century Grecian style, I think. Not all that common so it’s a pity the house was not preserved. Thanks for another great armchair journey, Kappy.

Even though it’s in such a sad shape, you can tell how beautiful it was at one time.
If my stimulus package was big enough, I'd have that house back to what it was and all it's fireplaces and beauty! To nice to be sitting out there (even near a noisy road) but with rolling fields around it. No, it should have been salvaged. That was one nice old farm house, so sad when people die off and with or without relatives to keep it up through the generations. Die off and it goes to rot. The woodwork is outstanding in it, it's original color, brown and green. Represented the woods and rolling green hills.
I just have to give my opinion. Stimulus package? Can we all just please stop depending on the government? Ugh. I don’t think they should ever have sent any at all. I know you may have just been speaking metaphorically but it’s just something I get really riled up about.
@@nette49 The government takes enough. 🙄 In nearly 100 years of taking and taking they can be “socialist” for once and give back to the people when they are STARVING. It won’t make the US socialist to give out money while the pandemic blows over. They chose to lock everything down, the GOP, being idiots as usual, want to reopen without actually coming up with a solution. Now nearly a year later, the Democrats want to keep everything closed. All in all this was a half ass response. And both parties are fucking trash. Neither one represents the working class anymore. ☝️

This had been a beautiful home in its day! Lots of air flow thru this one, you wouldn't have felt closed in and could see every where. Thanks for sharing!
With a minimum of damage in a couple upstairs rooms, does anyone else think this is one of those rare occasions where a house could be saved? The staircase/railing was so nice in its simplicity. Didn't see a bathroom, even though there was water in the kitchen. Pretty amazing.

Yes it definitely could be saved. Unfortunately that highway makes for a less desirable location.
A lot of work but if the basic structure and foundation are good it's possible. Especially if you are good at home repairs. You can save a lot if you're handy with doing things yourself.
Probably never had a bathroom. Composting privy out back and a washbasin in the kitchen. My grandparents were from Tennessee.
Yes, the structure seems very sound. Southern 2-story breezeway house. A lot of the wood on the floor and walls looks like cedar---that's why even after being empty for 20 years there's no rot or mold. Sad that vandals have come in and broken all the glass, kicked holes in the walls, and stolen cedar planks off a wall...apparently they even tried to rip a fireplace mantel out. Funny that they didn't steal those (now called "retro") metal chairs on the front porch. I took notice of that because I want chairs like that! But they're really pricey. It looks like whoever owned that house loved it and took excellent care of it while they were there. Great explore!
I love these places with the 'double decker' porches. Makes me think of summer days.

I love that so many of the original features are still present. I was amazed that you could walk out on that upstairs porch. Those boards looked amazing for a house that old. I loved the fact, too, that there was only natural decay. That must have been a stunning home, in it's day.
Same here! The only thing that had been stolen was majority of the old door knobs and light fixtures ! Can just imagine sitting on the porch before the busy highway was there. Thank you for watching!
When people used to sit on their front porches and speak to their neighbors as they walked by. What a great era. Sorry so many folks will never understand the real beauty in that life. Sorry to see houses like this not being restored. Great architecture and forthought when this house was built.
In 1840 that was probably just a path out in front of the house, not even an old country road at that point. To me that's what's most amazing. They would have sat on that porch and seen an occasional horse and buggy and nothing more. So weird to think that they would have no idea how 175 years later people from all over the world would get to see that same view.

That trim is very unique. Interesting all the fireplace mantles look like the same person made them from the earliest part to the newer portions. Fun explore as always. In this one I’d like to be able to talk to the last person to live here. No plumbing or indoor bathroom. They were living rough in modern times. Thanks for sharing ❤️

Love the layout of this home, had to be a beauty in its day. I like the idea of two living rooms, I think at the time one room was used for formal entertaining (parlor ?) and special guests and the other for daily family gatherings. The 2 porches were ideal for outdoor entertaining and sitting for a while. I can just imagine a glass of lemon aide sitting in a cool rocking chair on a hot summer day. Nice size bedrooms and a lot of unique wood work. Thanks for sharing.
Lemonade---or perhaps mint julep? Second floor porches have fascinated me since the first time I saw one in and illustration in a book in ninth grade. One of the first houses I built for my model railroad had one. Stay safe.
Much like many modern homes with a formal living room and family room. When I was a kid in the 50s our neighbor's old house had a living room where the family gathered and entertained guests informally. Then there was the "morgue" as they called it. I can still remember the velvet drapes, antique piano, marble statues and Victorian lights and furniture. Right out of Arsenic and Old Lace. It was seldom entered but I was fascinated by it and used to go in when we visited. They were interesting and educated people. Middle class but with an aristocratic flair. They had a gardener and cook/housekeeper. I remember looking out the window of our house and seeing them dine by candlelight. Oh, I forgot. The parlour was called the "morgue" because as was the custom years ago when family members died they were laid out in that room. My mother said it was done in our house as well. Personally I like that idea.
Lawana Robertson. A traditional layout in an old home would be a good parlour( for entertaining special guests. Normally off that would be the good parlour bedroom for overnight guests.
@@DavidSmith-sb2ix Your friends house sounded very cool. Travel in those days was tricky( slow). If someone comes for a visit, they would frequently stay over. You’d have the good parlour for entertaining special guests like the school teacher or the preacher. The overnight guests would stay in the guest bedroom off the parlour. Yes, deceased relatives would be laid out in the good parlour. This is a very early house. The banister and railings are so simple. There isn’t really a newel post. The exceptionally deep baseboard is unusual, l would say and quite handsome! That teal blue on one of the fireplaces is, I’m sure original. I think the army 2 toned baseboard colour are no doubt original too. Kappy says that the bedrooms are plain. With all due respect to him, all bedrooms in houses of this vintage and style are going to be plain. They rarely had closets and would have big armoires instead. If the house was Victorian, the upstairs trim might have been more fancy. This house is pre Victorian . It’s colonial and like colonial homes, quite simple in its floor plan. Eventually, the owners would take portions of rooms and turn them in to kitchens and bathrooms. If this house had a basement, there would have been a kitchen with a big stone fireplace. Kappy going into the basement is a big deal to me because l always look to see if there are the remains of a cooking fireplace!!! Cheers!

Was once a beautiful home! So sad to see it decaying away! I always think of a nice big family that once occupied these old places and how lively they once must've been!
What a wonderful house! I loved the porch, especially the one upstairs. The doors, large skirting (?) and knewle post where all hand made by a very good carpenter.

That busy road was likely a narrow dirt road/trail, and the people in the house probably either got excited, or nervous when somebody was spotted approaching the house.

Can tell this house was a sight to see in its day. The second story porch is so nice, can imagine drinking coffee in the morning out on it. As always great job bringing this location to us.

Great house! I absolutely adore porches and when they are 2 story they are epic! When you went in the first livingroom I thought that there were doors laying around the edge of the room...I have never seen woodwork like they have! Very cool! 😊❤

I saw this house an earlier video - a year or so ago. There had been railing on the top balcony area and most of the windows were intact. A lot of damage has been done since then. Too bad. It looked then like the people had moved out recently. An easy fix. I’m very sad to see this house in it’s present condition.

Not only unusual wainscoting but an unusual color scheme throughout the house: I've never seen a house of that style and age with so much green. Unusual to see blue along the tops of some of the walls and on the ceiling. I wonder if that's "haint blue" to keep haunts/ghosts away.
I agree Andrew, the color combination of the wainscoating matches the doors, door surrounds, stairs and some of the mantels. There were fireplaces in most rooms, but only two chimneys on each end of the house; not sure how the smoke/fumes were exhausted. This house had an outhouse somewhere... hopefully away from the water pumphouse. Back in the day outhouse contaminants leaching into wells caused typhus and dysentary.
@@williamkeith8944 I remarked to myself that someone took pains in painting the interior trim, basically brown with the green insets, but wasn't that reversed in places upstairs? I thought I saw green with brown trim. Ah well, it's nice any way you take it. Stay safe.

Excellent video. Such a shame a fine fine old home that was a show place in its day. Most people in rural areas in that day lived in log houses or couldnt afford a gallon of paint to paint their home let along such a splendid fine home. I have those pressed metal shingles on my house. I love them. Had it not had those it would have leaked and fell in long ago. Vandals always vandals tearing stuff up. The porch bannisters had been mortised and tenoned on front porch into the columns upstairs. And those doors in back with 6 panels 3 above 3 below were great and that wainscoting. loved it. Needs to be salvaged. What a prosperous farmer he must have been.
Think of the meals holidays and family get together in that home. Births, deaths. Christmas. And all the times relaxing on those porches. That back porch was great! Smoking a pipe out there after a hard days work and a fine meal. Watching the dogs and cows and chickens. Now...that is the life.

It is a beautiful old place. You seem to have a knack of finding places of a certain quality. You are right it is such a shame to see quality old places decaying away. At least you are ensuring there is a record. Honestly that place looked like maybe it could be restored. I know there is road noise but there is many a house closer to a busy road than that that is occupied & that one actually still has a very pleasant outlook, with appropriate double glazing it would be an attractive property. My fantasy for this house is for someone to find it who needs a place in that area & see the potential.
That was a wonderful house in it's day, I would think it may date from the mid 1800s.

It must have been a grand house at one point. I liked some of the wood lining the bottom of the walls in the ground floor rooms. There is a mystery with a derelict properties: Who lived there? Why were they abandoned. There are very few abandoned places in my town as property places are so high! Anyway, Kappy! thanks for your exploration - RC

I can't imagine that anyone has lived there as recently as the date on the newspaper suggested. More likely, someone brought newspaper with them to wrap and pack antiques then left one behind.
Oh this house is awesome! And yes, I bet it was lovely with no highway there!! I love looking out the window upstairs and seeing the cows!! And the hills! Somebody really trashed this place, but it is a shame that no one saved it! Personally, I would rather have a old brick home with the big wrap around porch... oh well, I get to dream every time I watch one of your video's! As always a well done video. I honestly donot understand why anyone would give you a thumbs down? You are by far one of the best urban explorers out there. I really like that you explore alone and your videos are strictly about the places you are exploring. Without all the distraction that comes about by having several explorers in one location. So "thank you" for that!!! What a nice place this probably was back in the day . And the land surrounding it is just breathtaking and peaceful, well except for the highway noise.
I wish I could go on one of these adventures! I went once to an old casino and it was spooky as hell but fun!!!
