Although I don't have a Kraken yet, Mike Hasty from Walls of Jericho sent me this link so I can listen to it and buy one! He's my gear twin! Hahaha! I'll be honest, I have an MT15 and looking at the settings on the lead channel in this video, I feel like my MT15 sounds better with different EQ settings. If I had to base my thoughts on whether to buy the Kraken at this point, I would end up keeping my PRS. The difference isn't so drastic that I need to own the Kraken. Thanks for making this video and sharing it on your channel. It's always great seeing a fellow gear reviewer making awesome videos!! Thanks again and keep it up!! Going to subscribe now!
I have seen people complaining about the muddiness of the MT-15 on the comment section and that's because the settings are off compared to the Kraken. The bass is up all the way which is ridiculous for this amp. I own the MT-15 and trust me it kills and is not muddy at all. You just have to know how to adjust the parameters. The Kraken is a better amp but for the money Prs Mt-15 all the way.
I like both, I got the kraken preamp pedal slaving the duchess and it’s just insane, for the price and the type of sound I am after I will stick with the MT15.
Hi! Did you use the same settings on both amps ??? If not what were the settings for both amps, that would help to clarify. One remark we are comparing 50w Kraken with a 15 W PRS MT15 so it´s not the same thing on both amps because the power transformer on the Kraken feeds more voltage creating more power to deliver those 50 w more headroom while the PRS is just delivering 15 w/17 w tops so it can´t have the same deliver or headroom soundwise because the power transformer can´t deliver the same power as the Kraken so past the 15/17 w it´s just power amp saturation, but nice sound for both units.
No signal chain? The EQ is so different that I think these amps would work really well in stereo together. The PRS sounds sounds like a closed "O" vowel sound whereas the Kraken is a more open "Ah" vowel sound. Pushing both with a TS type pedal to see which is tighter/less noise would have been cool too.
This is a really an amazing and fucking helpful video for me, exactly what I'm looking for. Im between this two heads and also the ENGL Ironball 20 to buy this week, the problem is that I cant try them on any shop, just order online. Im watching videos on youtube and The Victory VX The Kraken looks the winner at the moment, I want to ask you just one question please: I read in some forums that The Kraken have Feedback issues, is this really true? I mean: The Kraken really have more feedback issues than other heads or is just the normal that you can expect from a High Gain head? Thanks in advance and congratulations for this helpful videos!!!
Indeed, I put a 12AT7 in V3 on my MT15 and it feels clearer and better. The result of changing V4 instead is similar. Metal tones must now be dialed to 80 - 100% gain (previously, gain was excesive and useless past 50%), and now I can even dial some crunch tones whereas it was impossible with the original 12AX7 tube.
My mt15 is my pride and joy of my set up, sssooooo much power and punch, I run the gain minimal and with boss eq, compressor, screamer and gate have found a tone I havnt changed in months...I mean we as guitarists are always tinkering but I couldn't be happier with it...strange but won't complain haha
@@adamdam you mean in any environment? I need a portable rig that can cover anything from unmiced places to bigger venues. Unmiced meaning diy places where it has to compete with a 100W Marshall Jcm900
@Nofarewell Well when it comes to things like that you may want to look into amp modelling products with more adjustability to required settings. As far as my experience goes I'm mainly a recording musician and havn't had excessive testing of it in various gig scenarios.
would you say the MT15 isn't in the same league as the Kraken or EVH 50? Like would it be better offer spending the extra on a Mesa 25w than the MT15 long term?
@@MaestroJericho hey buddy I owned the kraken the mt15 and the evh 5150 el34 at the same time at some point. Believe it or not i have changed my mind 1 year after writing this comment. Once my honeymoon was over i prefered the mt 15! It is less fancy but its the best chug ive had. For leads the evh is the best. It is really spongy sounding. mt15 has the more bite to it. Great chugs. I sold my kraken. So i wouldnt say any of these amps are out of the kraken’s reach.
@@xXlefthandedXx damn, I've been on the wait since I'd see used MT-15s pop up for under $600 on occasion. I saw there was one for $499 at a Guitar Center nearby, but it sold the first 1-2 days the listing got posted.
sinquestsound This was a really bad comparison demo. You didn't list the difference in EQ or any of the settings you used. Plus you're comparing a 15w amp with a 50w amp into the same cab without adjusting for the difference in headroom.
Ummm...!! PRS MT-15 watts into a 412 & the Kraken 50 watts into a 412 of course the Kraken will sound better pushing the speakers with 50 watts...Try doing a better comparison with the PRS MT 15 into a 1x12 vintage 30 and the Kraken 50 watts into a 2x12 Vintage 30s...
@@IamTheDustDevil IMO Kraken sounds more dark than PRS (no presence knob included), Kraken for sure for Me better midrange - more dirty etc that's why fit better in a mix, both great and both reamped with same volume so trust me its not about 15 or 50W, but more about amps voicing.
@@sinquestsound Yea The PRS sat muddy in the mix, meaning no definition/lack of clarity.... The kraken sat better in the mix by far...as for the 15 vs 50 watts...15 watts/thinner less defined sounding compared to 50 watt being thicker or more defined when pushing 60 watt vintage 30s = 280 watt 412 cabinet...Meaning the output transformer & power tubes defines the output voicing...That's why I'm purchasing the 4 channel Revv generator 120 amp...!!! Who said that I use amps setting from pictures? And Yes imo ORS is much brighter than Kraken. I miss a bit Presence knob in Kraken.
I seen that shit too
....you know the bass knob that is all the way up in the picture is for the clean channel.
Awesome! Thanks man! Cheers.
Seems like these amps were dialed in for completely different sounds. Hard to judge based on that.
I like both, I got the kraken preamp pedal slaving the duchess and it’s just insane, for the price and the type of sound I am after I will stick with the MT15.
MT - 15 for me. I'd put in a 50 watt Power Transformer and a pair of 6L6's.

both amps without Boost, Kraken gain II and then both > Hesu Oversized 412 cab v30 speaker > single sm57. Stay Metal!

No problems here, killer amp with tins of gain, simple eq, nice voicing.
I think they both sound far too similar for the price difference! Was not expecting that
Kraken for me, considering the headroom to work with and that meaty chug lows but MT 15 is awesome considering the price, both cant go wrong.
With the PRS, you have to change out the V3 tube for slightly less gain tube. Gets rid of that mud.

MT 15 hands down to my taste.
Does the MT15 or Kraken have an Fx loop?
Yes, both of them.

Well i would take MT15 and blend it with something like RV, because i dont like the higher freq's in these amps, but the rest is amazing
The kraken is tighter and kicks ass in my humble opinion.
What Kraken version was that, the 6L6?
factory tubes, dont know :D

IMO Kraken.
I have both and the MT15 is much tighter. You just need a boost in front of it.
@@ViciousAudioTX Haha, so itmeans Kraken is tighter 😉
Update: Found a mint Bugera 1990 Infinium for $300ish shipped and a Fortin Grind all for around $604.
Thats what I was afraid of! Kraken gets my vote!
The Kraken is double the cost of the PRS where I live. PRS MT15 it is!
🙂
Wow, both good, but Kraken sound much fuller and ruthless-er to me.
PRS has the same muddiness that all their amps have. The Kraken sounds great :)
it sounds muddy because he is using a detuned 7 string that makes everything sound like shit.
Maybe trying less bass and more mids.
MT15 Rulz!
The Victory is more articulate and clear. The PRS is good, just a little muddy.
Put them together
I had the chance to try them both side by side at the music store and I can tell you... The kraken is way better. Also twice the price...

Different cabs would change the sound too much, making the comparison useless. This comment is dumb
thumbs down.next time use a 6 string tuned to standard.
