The Easiest Way to Cut Button Down Shirts: Step-by-Step Tutorial

- In this video, we honestly made the cutting of a button down shirt look very easy.
By simplifying everything, we show ways in which you can cut your button down shirt and make it look very professional.
Just a reminder that this video includes the cutting of the sleeve, cuff and even neck. Yep, you read right. I thought you how to cut a perfect neck for your shirt.
First, I started by folding in the edge if my fabric by 1½ inch. After using the iron yo press it down, I proceeded to ruling out the line that will serve as my shoulder line.
Next, I brought out the horizontal measurements which includes the chest line, waist line, and gull length. I also added 1inch for the folding allowance.
After that, I placed my measurements across. To do this in a button down shirt, you have to divide your chest by 4. The same goes for the waist and full length.
After dividing by 4, I added ½inch for the buttonhole overlapping, then i added one inch for the sewing allowance.
The next thing to do was bring out the back of the shirt, and usually, the back is always longer than the front by 3-4 inches. When you're done with that, the next thing is to bring out the neck.
The formulae for the neck is thus;
Length= neckcircumference÷4
Breadth= length÷2
The formulae for the armhole is thus; Armhole= chest÷6+1½.
When cutting the sleeve, always remember to take out 2½ inch as the cuff length.
Then I proceeded to mark out the hand, by dipping it in at the edge by 5½inches.
Note; do not make it deeper than 5½ inches.
To calculate the wrist, all I did was divide it by 2 and add 1½ inch to it.
After that, I cut out the cuff, placed it in the fabric and gummed it with my HOT iron. 😅

Tho, You need to add ½ inch allowance which would be used for the overlapping. Aside that, no other allowance is needed.

I did fold the material into two, and for the tip, I folded it In by 1 inch.
