- If you are looking for an adventure when you visit Ventura or Ojai, consider the awesome bike path that runs between the two cities. This path is around 15 miles each way and you can ride it from Ojai all the way to the Ventura Coast. The bike path is beautiful with lots of trees and shade, as well as pull-offs for great views. Plus, if you only ride it one way from Ojai to Ventura, it is pretty much flat and downhill!

It's going from Ventura to Ojai that is VERY uphill. Ojai to Ventura is a breeze
I took this ride yesterday with friends and we opted to rent e-bikes in Ventura. I'm not sure if it was entirely necessary as the incline is gradual but consistent. Anyways, those pillars on the side of the bike lane are works of art. Also, there's a bus line along the trail. People can take their bikes on the bus in Ventura and ride down from Ojai back to Ventura if they aren't sure if they can handle the incline.
My Grandparents lived in Casitas Springs for quite a few years, I really do miss it out there. Thank you again for sharing these videos.
Thanks for sharing that nice bike ride. The "markers" along the trail measure off the
entire Ventura River trail in miles (left side) and kilometers (right side). Its 32 concrete distance markers topped with artifacts from Ventura Avenue oil fields and cryptic messages invite contemplation.
Thanks, Josh, these bike trail videos are an excellent addition to your awesome collection of work!
Thank you! I rode that route dozens, maybe more, times in the 70s & 80s. Great long loop along through Santa Paula, down the Denison grade, through Ojai, then back to Ventura. Lots of interesting features, great views. You can extend the loop through Santa Barbara or do a figure 8. Also, Pier to Mt. Pinos.
Godamn dude all the way to Mt. Pinos? You're talking Sasquatch territory.
The trail actually heads north on Main Street for a very short ways. You cross over Main St right before the Ventura River Bridge. The bike path follows the Ventura River to the Ventura beach bike trail.
Have biked that trail multiple times, in both directions. Always a fun ride. Going from Ventura up to Ojai has some challenging grades if you are without pedal assist, but hey, the reward coming back down the hill on a round trip is worth the effort. When you're at the beach, you can ride NW along the coast for quite some distance too. The multiple pieces of artistic sculpture (with text) that you mention along the Ventura River portion of the trail are whimsical takes on "markers" and cause for some reflection along the way. I was totally surprised to see how much the population of van lifers and other mobile dwellers has grown in that one section of roadway adjacent the trail. A decade ago, when I lived in the area, there were maybe 1, 2 or 3 at a time as I recall.
Ventura...always beautiful🇺🇸
Haha! You rode right past our house... just before the bench... tall green roof. Would have been fun to shake your hand. We love your videos and take notes for our own travels.
Thanks for rails to trails!
This is such a cool trail. Can't wait to try it. Looks much more scenic than the Pacific Electric Trail (PET) which is Ranch Cucamonga to Claremont/ Upland.
I live in Ojai. The bike path originally was a railroad.
One time while riding down the path, A good sized stick was blocking the entire path. Going fairly fast, I decided to Bunnyhop it. By the time I realized it was a large rattlesnake, I was already committed. It work but I don’t know if I would recommend it
Nice! Ventura is our home town. We camp a little further up the road where the cool vehicle bridge is.
Sweet ride. Thanks Josh!
Loved this! Thank you for posting. I used to live in Ventura and still miss it.
One of my favorites.
Your videos are filled with so much positivity. Loved the 66 trip video that you took with your dad. Stay safe 👍
Very cool! My wife and I used to visit Ojai for some awesome tamales when we lived in Santa Barbara. The Ventura Pier is an great walk on a sunny day. Those tacos from Beach House were good! Hello to Amy and the kidlets! 😊
Would really like to see more bike path rides like this. Thanks, Josh.
Another fantastic video! Several years ago, my sister and I rode up to Ojai on the Ojai Valley trail, had lunch, then had the fun of riding downhill to where our car was parked. It's a nice alternative when going one way on the trail is not logistically possible.
Wow I did not realize the bike path around Ojai went to Ventura. Looks fun. Thanks for sharing.
if at Main st, you kept going for 50 yards (right), the bike trail goes along the river to the coast. You kind of cut the bike path with street riding.
czcams.com/video/YMG_2Ke9nD8/video.html
Also, you could have taken the path itself all the way to the beach. A little nicer than the jog down through the streets.
I have ridden this trail several times starting in Ventura. It's a great ride.
I live here in Ventura and have ridden the path a few times. Well done, you did it justice. 👏
Very nice bike trail. The twins are getting big😍
what a beautiful trail, and e-bikes must be so fun!!!! Thanks for the tour!

I live in Ventura. I remember when that trail was all old railroad tracks. Now they have ripped out the tracks. The industrial work I lots of oil fields owned by shell and that was the water treatment plant. I do love that bike route tho I love the beach trail from vebtura to Santa Barbara. Lots of art along the way. The bike trail ends at the beach. When the kids are old enough, take your kids to marina park. It’s pretty fun. Great Mexican food in Ventura. Great food period. Main Street has bomb restaurants but off the beaten path there are so many amazing places snd are covid friendly outdoor dining. Glad you all got to enjoy my home town. Kids are getting so big snd so cute. Thanks for posting
EXCELLENT tour 👍🚲🚴♂️
Thank you !!!
Oh, we sooo want to ride this trail! We’re full time nomads and saw the trail when we stayed in Ventura and Ojai. Love the video, Josh 🤗
Great video! This is a favorite ride for us on eBikes. Also it’s a nice ride to go Ventura up to Carpenteria on the beachfront trail! 😊
Nice Adventure, as always.
awesome vide as always; Ojai is a nice escape ... son went to prep school there; great that you mentioned Casitas Spring's claim to fame - Johnny Cash
Awesome ride! I decide to follow your trip!
Great Video!!! Your Babies are Beautiful !!! Congratulations, Thanks Josh, greetings from The Beautiful San Diego !!!
Thanks for the ride along on the bike trail! I use to have a Ventura Hot Glass art studio on N. Olive, one mile from the beach!
Nice Video brings back memories. Awe this chick used to ride the equestrian Trail on horseback and if I wasn’t riding horseback I was running. So that trail of love thanks you. I used to run from East End down to Foster Park good 13 miles on good running feet. When there was water back in the rivers back in the day. Oh I jumped in. When you cross over the 150 Highway there used to be ponds or rolling, trickling waters so what is there to do then but jump in to the river, kiddos not now it’s dry. Every now and then the river still runs but not full like thirty five years ago. Thanks for the memories, good video dear one. Nicer on bike… bumpy still…
Thanks for the bike trail film Josh. I've walked The Santa Ana Trail in its entirely in parts. I loved your clip of that ride. Enjoying The Ojai Valley Trail. Hope to see Amy & the twins later in the clip.
Cute kids! Congratulations! 😊👍🏼
oh beautiful babies, congrats!
You were so close to reconnecting to the bike trail that connected you to the pier. Great video!
amazing footage, per usual!
You inspire me!
I live in Ventura, thanks for the ride 🏖🚲
Thanks to your video, will do this trail tomorrow :)
I live in Ventura county!!!! I am soooo lucky 🍀
LOVE THIS
The kids look great. They get big quickly so enjoy.
Really enjoy your videos, as always!
Love your bike trail riding video! Some of the best on youtube. You started with food and ended with food.
Very Interesting, thank you 😊
Fun to watch😊😊😊
Josh! This is one of my favorite two or three bike trails in all of SoCal. Just did it a year ago with about 12 of my friends. :-)
Full dad mode with the bike content you have been cranking out lately. Haha love it, Josh! Thank you for showing us a new place!
Awesome trail ✌
Omg your babies are so cute!
great video
My friends have been telling me about that trail and I've been meaning to do it, so thanks for the video. now I know more of what it's like. And I'm glad you mentioned Beach House tacos o, that is seriously one of the best restaurants I've ever been to in my life, and I was wondering if it was still there, because I haven't been in a few years. I think I'm going to take that ride and finish it off at beach house tacos!
Nice biking video!😃👍
thank you. good job. I did it before, but my bike flat half way.
God bless your family.
Pretty ride, even with the highway
I believe the sculptures do invite contemplation as someone said below. Also, I think they refer to various elements of punctuation or mathematics that can have several meanings such as "mark"... or "point" (ex.. to point at something or a point one stops at). These are actually really understated and fun sculptures to find along the more industrial part of the trail. There are also ground art pieces on the south side of the Crowne Plaza in the courtyard there with some good contemplation aspects. Looks like you missed just a small portion of the trail as you came to ventura. Next time! There's much to see. You can aslo turn right on main street instead of the left you made and go all the way up to Santa Barbara on bike trails pretty much along the coast, which is stellar!
Excellent Video, Josh. I hope you do more of these type of Bike Trails. How about doing a bike trail video with your family (Amy, Twins, and your parents) biking behind you??
Oh man, you made the right choice cycling from Ojai to Ventura. Like idiots, we tried to cycle back from Foster Park to Ojai and I had to get picked up in the car! Too steep for me not on a mountain bike! 😂
cool video 🔥
You should check out the American River Bike Trail in Sacramento!
All homeless people
Thanks
This must be a new trail, I lived in that area early 90s.
It’s so steady like a skateboard cruise
Starting in Foster Park, I used to skate up to Ojai and back. In Ojai, I'd get some carrot juice and an oatmeal cookie and relax for a while in the Libbey Park before skating back down. It was a great way to get some exercise, beautiful and lightly trafficked. However, that was many years ago and it looks like the path has deteriorated, making it hard for skaters.
Try the Santa Barbara to Ventura bike trail that runs along the coast the entire way....
Very nice ride. Done it a hundred times. Sorry you missed the last little portion that explains the "markers".
Oh my. Officially it does end where you say it ends.
However the "blue dashed line" on the traillink map would have shown the explanation of the "markers"
Iv done the Ojai one before when little ...didn't know it goes that far 🤔
Looks like fun.
What is the name of the bike you were using?
Hey Josh, did you film this footage this year? Amazing how dry the land looks already this early in the season. Greets from Germany!
There’s a large boarding stable near the San Antonio Creek bridge, so heads up for equestrians in that area!
You missed the last portion of the bike trail that takes you to the ventura pier. You needed to make a right on main street and right before the freeway over path to the left the trail continues. It will lead you straight into the pier and away from traffic
You shoukd check out the San Gabriel trail.
Just biked there a few months ago! :) You should hike Matilija Falls in Ojai, it's so great!
Son: "FOOD!!!!!!!" Your son wanted that Taco, didn't he? LOL
Not sure if you live in the area but let me know if you are down for backpacking/hikes, I am a local and am looking for new adventures! Anyways, awesome video!
Had you made a right on Main Street rather than a left it's only a little over a block ()just before the road crosses the Ventura River) until you encounter the bike path and parking lot on your left. This would have allowed you to ride on the path all of the way to the pier without using surface streets. Used to live in Oxnard years ago and we would meet at the above mentioned parking lot to begin our recumbent trike rides up to Ojai for lunch or towards Santa Barbara or Carpentaria along the Pacific Coast Highway. Should also add that since this is an old rail bed the grade heading up to Ojai is not that steep and easy to do.
This is an excellent tip. Thank you for sharing.
Do the bike trail from Norco to Downtown Riverside along the Santa Ana River.
Bob Jones Trail is pretty dope! It ends at Avila Beach.
lol, its about 3 miles...
@@hankgs what’s so funny about that?
thas my home! :)
How long did the entire trip take?
How long did it take from start to finish?
Why did you choose the Blix bike and is it worth the almost double the price of other e-bikes? I’m close to ordering one! Thanks in advance
I worked with them on a previous video (which you can see here czcams.com/video/D3wqPG7acD0/video.html), which is why I have the bike. I haven't tested any other eBikes myself so I can't really compare them or make any comments about whether it is worth the extra price, but that being said, I have been really happy with the bike myself and have used it a decent amount. I really like that I can fold it up and easily put it in my car, as well as the range.
Is this path busy? I ride alone so it is nicer to see someone else lol. Thanks
It would be nice if you can put the GPS locations for the start and every stop point
👍😍
That kid is a born taco lover for sure!
Beach house tacos is the bomb
Which kind of bike do you have?
definitely stop at Ventura Spirits next time and grab a cocktail or a bottle of spirits. its literally off the bike trail.
Hi. Do you have a gpx for this?
How about Ventura to Ojai? That would be a workout.
At 5:40 in the video he showed an overpass with people parked under it (near Foster Park). A great ride is to park there, ride up to Ojai then back down to Ventura then back to where you parked. That way you get most of the uphill done first. From Ventura back to Foster Park it's an easy grade. That makes for about a 30 mile or so ride. You can easily extend it by going north on the coast trail in Ventura.
@@johnburwell6609 sounds fun. Reminds me of when I worked at Point Mugu. Used to ride my 18 speed mountain bike to and from. Depending on where I lived in Oxnard or Port Hueneme at the time, it was between 22 and 28 miles a day. My calves looked like Popeye's forearms, with the whole onshore/offshore wind switch around midday, it was usually always in a headwind both directions. I should get another bike. Starting to get a little pudgy.
