Dont know about any other schools but a couple years ago in primary, we would learn about 1916 every year and touch on the war of independence aswell as Michael Collins and the Flying Columns. Hope other schools are doing the same now.

Dev has now been written out of history..If he was so "unpopular" why was his government elected to power on so many occasions by the Irish people. I met Dev as a child on at least three occasions. My Dad would have literally given his life for Dev as many more would have done back in those years..

He saw the future when he said he signed his death warrant indeed the treaty was in a way a death warrant in what it brought to Ireland it didn't bring about what was fought for a 32 county republic. He went to the most dangerous part of the country and paid for it

Let me pose this question. Did Fine Gael represent any of what Michael Collins fought for...and why according to the experts when Dev was the baddie did he manage to win election after election..."From the formation of the first Fianna Fáil government on 9 March 1932 until the 2011 general election, the party was in power for 61 of 79 years. Its longest continuous period in office was 15 years and 11 months (March 1931 - February 1948)."...

True I supose but as Michael said to Emmet Dalton they'll never kill me in my own county plus the fact that he had lots of near misses and cowed the most powerful empire in the world probably made him think he was invincible great as Michael was he was still only human and as sucepital to vanity as the rest of us.
