I ran Double-Nuke Lucario last time Fossil Cup had its go around, (Thanks to JRE’s recommendation from his Nifty vs. Thrifty guide) but I had it in lead.
Some advice to players who want to do the same: To guarantee you win the Lucario mirror match, DONT throw ANY charged moves! All the Lucarios I encountered in lead had PuP, literally every single one, and 90% of the time would throw it immediately when they got the energy. It costs you a shield (cause otherwise PuP would KO you) but if you fully counter down you’ll guaranteed win the mirror and have a charged move to blind throw at whatever comes in next.
The other 10% if Lucarios would switch as soon as they got enough for a PuP to try and catch, but of course you’re not gonna fall for that now.
As long as you don’t encounter a Pelipper or Jellicent or Escavalier lead (which unfortunately will happen eventually) you’ll be pretty solid.
3:16 I swear I laughed so hard when it was revealed they had lucario too. It was awesome as you said lucario with double nuke can beat just about anything in the meta... Its almost poetic that it lost to itself ❤

I did this without seeing this video I had pup n close combat n togedemaru as start and ludicolo in back
Also, if you go to any of the in-person go fest. One of the habitats has a Lucario spawn. For Osaka and London go fests. Lucario spawns in the Volcanic Island habitat. For the New York it spawns in the Athletic Field. In addition, you hatch a Riolu from the hatch day coming soon!
Double Nuke Lucario is just so good. On Pokemons where people expect bait moves like PuP when you run a moveset that isn't as quick and you overfarm it just plays so much mindgames and if they do not expect it then they get hit so hard.
Even a Escavalier with Acid Spray is enough to threaten a pokemon like Registeel because it assumes it has Drill Run + Megahorn but you are using Drill Run + Acid Spray.
I’m sorry but that catch of the drill run around 6:30. That shit was bonkers forwards thinking on how to win the match against jelly, that matchup overall could have been so much worse

I’ve been running Lucario as a closer, once shields are down Lucario absolutely goes to town, and yeah I’ve been running double nukes

I like giving people an idea of some things they can run, before the cup starts! A lot of people like battling as soon as the cup changes, this way they have some ideas of good mons to try :)

It's also a good idea to showcase a Pokemons potential in the format as well. Double Nuke Lucario just proves to be a powerful pick because nobody would want to get hit by a nuke move and also forces shields almost every time. Pretty much you either use a shield or you lose switch advantage.

Close combat does the same damage, but it is 10 energy cheaper!
Basically same as Close Combat but without the Debuff and also a bit expensive which is 2 extra counters.
