actually the bass make a big part of the guitar tone. If you listen to LoG guitars they aren't super heavily distorded and the bass make them sound thicker
I'm a metal composer.. about mixing, I've found Lamb of God is the best mix..and I'm trying to learn that how they mixed bass and drums, because bass and kicks fight the eq all the time, and I'm trying to figure out how they did that for kicks and bass without fight.
The low end are on different frequencies. You could for example emphasize the kick drum's low end at around 80hz (and sidechain it to a 50hz sine wave and a gate that opens when the kick strikes) and hi-pass the bass above 80hz with its dominant bass frequency around 100-120hz. Or you could do it the other way around depending on how deep you want the bass guitar or how tight you want the kick.
@mooseintheworks Lamb of God sold the album in 2 different ways. One was a regular CD, the other was the more expensive producer edition, which had drums, bass, guitars and vocals all split up into separate mp3's so fans could mess around with the music. It's actually quite cool.
heck, i say they're the most important. you can get by with decent guitarists, but you'll never form an awesome band without kickass drummers and bassists (and of course vocals play a vital role).
No instrument is THE most important, all together is what makes the band and the music, don't make a band without the guitars. But also don't make one without drums or bass. The combination and harmony is the most important instrument of real music.
@MKiller5 It's because of the distortion that John uses that it blends in with the guitar so you can't really hear it very well in the final mix. It's effects are always present though...especially when I put my subwoofer as loud as possible! :D
@jonpguitar Yeah it is.. But there's not much to do about it... One thing is to turn the bass up which then would sound weird, and an other thing you could do is to remove the distortion from the guitars (not going to happen, lol)
Wow Man, he is a great bass player, he really follows the other instruments, and he doesn't do what that "poor" bass players do when they just play the E cord.
exactly the 35,000th viewer!! THIS IS FUCKING AWESOME im playing around with this cd so much ahah its fun if u have a another guitar or vocals to play with this song
A bunchhhh of things, one you need a high output bass preferably a humbucking bass, two, you might wanna use a pick, three, overdrive... grit.. maybe some distortion? just play with settings on whatever amp and pedals you have. i know this is a super hard tone to copy.
the original song is def good but im a bass player i just like the sound of the rhythm section before anything else i believe it really drives the song and this is definite proof
@ElielChen762 pretty simple - on the old albums, the bass guitar was hardly present and the whole shit was mixed so the bass drum was the only punchy thing in the whole mix. On the new album, the bass is a lot more present and in return the bass drum is eq'd pretty clicky, ie. not a lot of low end.
+Vijay Jayant more you play bass your self and listen to bass tracks you can pick up bass in some songs. others there just drowned out too much. such a underrated beautiful instrument
well, there's not much to show off since he's doing exactly what the guitars do (not saying it's a bad thing) it would sound too low if bass was turned up
ok im not a fan of triviums album shogun or the crusade but damb embro to inferno was class and ascendancy was fukin amazing :) lamb of god are still the best
He doesn't do that all the time. And sometimes, playing the guitar riffs is exactly what you need to do, and this is usually the case. Most LoG riffs are on the higher frets, and they would sound quite weak if he didn't provide that low end punch. And he doesn't play with the guitars in certain songs. Don't generalize, please. That said, his pick speed is quite impressive...
The basist and the drummer are and always have been the basics in making songs. If you are recording a song and you make the guitar before the drums or bass it's like if your bilidng a house and you make the 2nd floor first... and thats just stupid.
You want to tell me that Lamb Of God makes completely different songs ? To me, 70% of their songs sound almost the same and still I like them. Next time plase, keep that shit opinion in your head.
2 of the most important instruments in a band!
bass is always insane on lamb of god songs
Now THIS is Drum and Bass!!
John Campbell is an absolute BEAST; my ears are experiencing bliss!! ⚡️⚡️🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
That bass tone is sick!
Man, you almost don't need the guitars at all with how intense the bass is.
They got two and the bass is almost killed in the mix.
actually the bass make a big part of the guitar tone. If you listen to LoG guitars they aren't super heavily distorded and the bass make them sound thicker

@MKiller5
Hell yea it does, Bass is pretty much the Back Bone of any band.
this video broke my lamb of god dryspell... i am currently listening to them nonstop again
holy shit that sounds fucking AMAZING
damn i didnt know campbell has got some distortion in his tone!
yep turn up the bass amp haha when you listen to these sorts of tracks you realise how much the drums and base are the back bone of the song
joshAKAtheman LAMB OF GOD
THEY ARE the most important
@mooseintheworks Lamb of God sold the album in 2 different ways. One was a regular CD, the other was the more expensive producer edition, which had drums, bass, guitars and vocals all split up into separate mp3's so fans could mess around with the music. It's actually quite cool.
@MKiller5 You should hear the bass on "Grace"
It is incredible.
heck, i say they're the most important. you can get by with decent guitarists, but you'll never form an awesome band without kickass drummers and bassists (and of course vocals play a vital role).
I would happily pay for an entire album of this, maybe with Randy in as well but this is fucking awesome!
Heavyfackingmusic I have all the stems of this album as well as Sacrament. Are you still wanting them?
IKR? John Campbell is an absolute beast on the bass!! 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻⚡️⚡️⚡️
This is sick !!

the chorus is so....... WOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOO.
Yes they are.
the bass is amazing on this song
@jonpguitar Yeah it is.. But there's not much to do about it... One thing is to turn the bass up which then would sound weird, and an other thing you could do is to remove the distortion from the guitars (not going to happen, lol)

the 2 bases of music!!!
epic sound. reminds me a bit of rex browns sound with crowbar of late.
Fucking insane!! Lamb of god are aweome :)
Now THIS is BadAss!!
so warm !!!!
Fair enough, you got your opinion i got myn =D the world keeps on spinning
And having an active bass is also important. John uses an Ibanez with 1P and 1 Hum.
nope he used jacksons and esp.
exactly the 35,000th viewer!!
THIS IS FUCKING AWESOME im playing around with this cd so much ahah
its fun if u have a another guitar or vocals to play with this song
@mooseintheworks
What Rayfire said and it is not possible to divide instruments in a mix, at least not in a way it would sound good.
Lamb of God is so fucking insane!!
Amen!
The rhythm section is pretty boss.
A bunchhhh of things, one you need a high output bass preferably a humbucking bass, two, you might wanna use a pick, three, overdrive... grit.. maybe some distortion?
just play with settings on whatever amp and pedals you have. i know this is a super hard tone to copy.
I spent SO many time during recording of my tracks to get such a badass bass sound. Well, now I do not sound like that, but I'm pretty similar... :-)
the original song is def good but im a bass player i just like the sound of the rhythm section before anything else i believe it really drives the song and this is definite proof
you mean BassAss! yeap its amazing
hell yeah :D
@DunkleFlugel He uses that beat (or variations of it) many times in their songs.
i cant handle the beats :D
Soudns so fcking awesome.
it is a great tone, that sort of pre amp pedal use, you also use some compressor? as I can get a tone like this
FUCKING great!!!
My heart feels like it's going to erupt. I think I like this a little too much...
The drums riff @ 0:54 is pretty the same than the intro of walk with in hell... but it is so badass :D
Rayfire u r the Shit 4 puttin this up it fuckin jams
@NUKEBUSTER123 ...oh shit! I can't believe I missed that. >.< thanks bro.
i think the double bass on the drums is pretty sick though
lamb of god semoga makin sukses
@Saageen cool Dubstep! :D
he's using distortion on bass on this track? I didn't notice. Maybe I'm not hearing the same.
Oh fuck that's nasty!!
Oh God the bass sounds like a grunge guitar. So murky and sexy... And Chris Alder is prime as always...
@DunkleFlugel if it isn't broke don't fix it
2:30
Man that bass sounds fucking crazy! Too bad that you can't hear better in the real song..
+Vijay Jayant more you play bass your self and listen to bass tracks you can pick up bass in some songs. others there just drowned out too much. such a underrated beautiful instrument
well, there's not much to show off since he's doing exactly what the guitars do (not saying it's a bad thing) it would sound too low if bass was turned up
@Jbridg87 Get a Tech21 Sansamp Bass Driver. John uses that and a Mesa bass head.
@fallout3rocks889 *The two most important instruments in a band!
ok im not a fan of triviums album shogun or the crusade but damb embro to inferno was class and ascendancy was fukin amazing :)
lamb of god are still the best
@hugomand Hell yes
That is so fucking true! These two have more talent than all of emo put together! :)
yEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeee
Oath!
Ryan Martinie from Mudvayne is underrated too
Dude can you send this to me?
I really like it!
i think the bass would sound better less distorted a more sort of steal sound if you get what i mean
I actually had no idea that the bass gave that much effect O_O
It's almost more than the guitar, lol.
fucking sick
new strings and a pick
any chance you can do Grace (Bass & Drums)?
Shit hot...
how can you get this kind of tone?
Well shit it sounds mean sober!
@MKiller5 its a shame its hard to hear in metal lol
huh guitar steals a lot :o
I heard about something called drum and bass and thought of this.
I was later disappointed :(
this bass is killing me

Then do it! I must say, if you are not really good at alternate picking you won't succeed :P
justin bieber and rebbeca are better now i got your attention lamb of god rocks
lmao
@MKiller5 Bass is better than guitar in my opinion lol
wat??????????????????
Nah, Lauxin666 is right, that wasn't fun at all.. I don't think anyone even smiled...
lol
the bass doesn't sound distorted to me at all, it's not in high quality that's why it sounds like shit
You want to tell me that Lamb Of God makes completely different songs ? To me, 70% of their songs sound almost the same and still I like them. Next time plase, keep that shit opinion in your head.
come up with something better...
new strings and a pick
how u can have this in this quality?
