    I run this exact combo and have been trying to get sensible responses out of the internet as to what I can do to fix all its limitations without dropping 25k on an FTE. Can’t wait to see what comes next.

    Awesome. Just stumbled upon your channel. Really helpful vid. I thought I had the only auto 1HZ 105 in Australia 😅. All jokes aside… I’ve been talking about putting a turbo into for years and now I’m at the point of properly looking into it over the next 18months. Keen to see more of your vids.

      Thanks mate, hope I can help you with your decision making! I reckon the auto 1hz is a great combo no matter what people say. I have done a few videos now on turbo selection, inter cooling and other handy mods make sure you check them out!
      I’m getting it tuned next so hopefully that’ll have it in the sweet spot

    I would say its badly in need of a good tune, valve clearance, new injectors and decent dyno tune would get thqt thing going as it should. My na 80 went from.120 to 80 on your last hill on its final trip before getting a turbo so i thought your effort was pretty respectable. Over heating in the 1hz, first thing to check and also the cheapest is the thermostat. Then the viscous fan then the radiator if its old or corroded. Also if everything che ks out and it still does it check injectors and fueling.
    Will be interesting to see your results.
    Cheers

    • @onstreetgarage
      @onstreetgarage  Před 6 měsíci

      These are all great tips thanks mate! I have done the following since this video:
      Valve clearances
      New injectors
      New viscous fan
      New thermostat
      Front mount intercooler
      It’s running 100x better, I’ve got a couple of videos since this one showing improvements and will have results of the front mount this Thursday.
      It’s just in the queue now for a tune to hopefully bring it all together. There’s also a potential opportunity come up to get an FTE for a great price so just weighing everything up

  • @petermenzel5943
    @petermenzel5943 Před 8 měsíci +1

    The egts are increasing when you put it in overdrive because the revs are lower and gives the fuel more time to burn in the cylinder whilst also loading the engine up, not because of low boost. the more boost you feed it, the more your egts will increase, same goes for increasing the fuel delivery.

    • @onstreetgarage
      @onstreetgarage  Před 8 měsíci

      That mostly makes sense to me mate, appreciate that. Only thing I thought was that adding more boost would decrease egt (within reason)

    • @petermenzel5943
      @petermenzel5943 Před 8 měsíci +1

      @@onstreetgarage from factory even by adding boost to an na engine will increase egts because you are getting a more complete burn. only time you will get lower egts from adding is boost is by adding an intercooler because you are feeding it cooler/denser air.

    That's crazy my 80 series 1hz with a DTS kit and custom front mounted intercooler , I did change out the rear housing to a 6cm tho my egts sit at 230 at 110km then on big hills maybe I hit 280-300 , if I'm towing a car trailer with my falcon on the back I can pull up massive hills on the highway 5th gear for big lengths and the maximum I have seen is around 400° even some hills where I'm holding wide open 4th gear keeping 80-90km I won't go past 400°
    430xxx km

    • @ProjectGarage2450

      I should have mentioned
      Pump is timed correctly
      Valve clearance set
      Injectors healthy

      I'm hoping to raise the boost up to 15 psi and adjust the AFRs correctly

    Keen to see the outcome of this and what changes. Mine is front mount intercooled and EGT’s vary from 280-410° when on the highway but can go to 500° when going up a big hill, sometimes feels like it dies off up the top

    The A442F will lock up in 3rd (overdrive off), provided you are not full throttle. I find using the switch to force it out of overdrive, vs. just putting your foot down almost always results in it locking up straight away.

    • @onstreetgarage
      @onstreetgarage  Před 9 měsíci

      That’s interesting I wasn’t aware it would do that in 3rd also. So do you reckon adding throttle is better than pushing OD?

    • @SuperSimmo88
      @SuperSimmo88 Před 9 měsíci +1

      @onstreetgarage no, I think doing what your doing is right. It probably comes down to what feels right, and using the gauges to confirm that the engine isn't working as hard. And yes, if you put your foot down enough for it to unlock the torque converter (not a bad thing at all), then it will start to generate heat in the transmission as you say. Perfectly normal, but of course it's dumping that heat into the cooling system, which can put a bit more stress on it if it's not up to the task, but it sounds like you are on to it already.

  • @user-lb7xn3do2g

    I think one of your main problems might be its not tuned right, these kits are designed to run about 11-12psi I beleive and even during the 0-100 sprint you didnt crack 10psi its probably running quite rich

    • @onstreetgarage
      @onstreetgarage  Před 7 měsíci

      Yes I agree, tune was meant to happen before Christmas but tuner had a backlog of cars they couldn’t get through on time. As it is I’m very happy with it now with the new turbo so I’m excited it should only get better again with the tune 👍🏼

    Fuel use is up there, much worse than our 250kw all the fruit SC Disco, but better than daughters GU 4.8 which is absolutely terrible. Our GQ shorty and son's all the fruit GU turbo 4.2 EGTs rise rapidly up hills too, despite all the additional cooling fitted and he simply can't tow with it!
    It'll be interesting to see you're future figures but I expect you'll be seeing similar rapid EGT rises as the power and weight goes up.

    • @onstreetgarage
      @onstreetgarage  Před 9 měsíci

      Yes I think the consumption is due to the injectors being well overdue for a rebuild as I had a 1hz years ago with a similar setup that was closer to 11-12l/100. In terms of egts I know the 1hz is limited by the flow of the head, I had a 1hdt which never got hot and was much better. You may be right and I see a lot of talk on the internet about what these future mods will or won’t do so I’m just excited to be able to do some real life testing 👍🏼.

    • @onstreetgarage
      @onstreetgarage  Před 9 měsíci

    Identical setup to mine. Auto 1hz dts turbo since new. So keen to follow the upgrades! I assume you’ll have to make some decisions around the trans cooler when you do the front mount? Mine has a cooler already, from factory i thought? Is that the max psi you can get out of your dts? Has your top mount got a fan? Is the bonnet sealed to the intercooler?

    • @onstreetgarage
      @onstreetgarage  Před 9 měsíci

      Hey mate glad I can help with potential decisions for you. I’ve bought an inter cooler that takes into account the factory trans cooler. When the time comes I’ll consider whether I go to a bigger core intercooler and relocate an aftermarket trans cooler.
      Im not sure how far you can push the dts unit in terms of boost however no matter how high I push it I don’t think it will address the slow spool up. Top mount is sealed to the bonnet but does not have a fan

    is it worthwhile installing a egt guage for a non-turbo 1hz to monitor temps? If so where would you put it?

    • @onstreetgarage
      @onstreetgarage  Před 6 měsíci +1

      I do t think there’s much point. I’m not an expert but the idea of monitoring egts with a turbo as the turbo can push temps high enough to damage pistons. I don’t think an N/A can generate enough heat to do that sort of damage.
