Hey, do you still DJ? I would love to see you Perform
Bro, I've seen your videos many times over the years. You definitely share useful information and your are good about breaking down the steps and walking us through them. There is just something about your facial expressions when you talk; it seems very forced. IDK, if there is some medical reason for that, if so I'm sorry for pointing it out. However, it really hits that Uncanny Valley for me; making it impossible to actually "watch" your videos. Let alone imagine what it would be like to actually see you perform.
What is with the Pioneer DJ XP2 Stems Mapping?
@djcarlo Does the Stem feature work with video mixing (MP4 files)?
Dude, I know it's been said on your channel so many times before, but I have to say it again - You are amazing! The amount of knowledge you are imparting to all of us that are trying to start DJing and/or refine our skills is truly a gift. Thank you so much for everything you do.
And you know there's always more to come Cap! Thank you for the kind words!
I'm a big fan of master of disaster before but you gave me a new knowledge in djing.
I can't agree more..taught me a lot through CZcams in about a year..appreciate your content!!
DNYC
I got a DJ controller during the pandemic to just learn how to DJ for fun.
I've learned so much from your channel that my friends usually ask me to DJ for them at a house party or something which I gladly accept because of the free drinks they give me and the people you get to meet! Thank you so much
That's amazing man! Maybe it's time to step it up a notch and start charging at gigs!
Carlo thank you!! Seriously. I’ve been djing for many years and I always come back to you for insight and knowledge. You are a true artist who just loves to share the wealth. Thank you forever Carlo. I don’t think I’d be where I am without your videos!
Thank you so much man! Enjoy playing around with stems!
Yesterday I bought the DDJ Flx 4 as a completed beginner and found you Carlo on YouToube, thanks for your videos and beeing my new DJ Teacher. Your Videos are really High Quality and I appriciate the work and the time you put in it. Thank You.
Really glad you think so! Enjoy the FLX 4 too; it's pretty great!
I'm so happy I found you! What a legend. Thank you.
And im happy you found me as well! Hope you get to have with stems now 🥳
Dude, you are literally the reason why I could start DJing. Your tutorials always come on top bro!
And I'm so glad you're still in the game Gustavo! Let's gooooo!
Wow. Not only is this awesome, and generous knowledge, but you are incredible at presenting it. Thanks for all the work you did here! Appreciate it!
Thanks for the kind words Clintod! Really appreciate the appreciation here haha. More tutorials and videos like this coming soon!
DJ Carlo both makes amazing explanation videos and showoffs but also the best clips that shows what hes talking about
That's the entire concept of the channel! 😄
Thanks for all the lessons Carlo! Just DJ’d on CDJs for the first time this weekend for 3 official festival after parties and your videos helped me get here.
Sending love from Canada 🇨🇦
Amazing! Congratulations on bagging those gigs buddy!
Wow!!!
I've been studying your videos for at 5 years now. Your tutorials just continue to be unbelievably valuable. Thank you for all you do 💜
Thanks Choo! I feel like this is where I want to focus the channel on in the future. More tutorials, more classes, more knowledge for the world! :D
Thanks DJ Carlo! Tons of valuable information to help the needy... Again.
That's what the channel is all about Alta! Spread the good word of knowledge!
This is extremely value adding. Thank you so much. Always enjoy your videos but this was above and beyond.
You're very welcome Michael! It's almost impossible not to play around with stems for me nowadays
Bro, you elevated my DJ game to the SKIES! Definitely buying your course as a sign of appreciation!
Awesome! Hope you enjoy my course as much as you enjoyed this stems tutorial!
I'm so thankful for all your work and for sharing with us ❤. Thank you
For sure Tarmac! Comments like yours keep me going strong with the videos and tutorials!
You are simply the best. Keep up the good work
Thank you! And for sure, more of this good stuff coming your way!
Thank you for always sharing such helpful knowledge!!! Your style of teaching is so amazing and concise. I appreciate all your help so much!!!
You're very welcome Ashley! And thank you so much as well! Hope you keep finding useful information on the channel 😄
You're a great dj. Thanks for showing stem mixing and for the mapping! really nice.
Thanks man! I'm happy you're happy with the video, and I guarantee you'll enjoy stem mixing!
I'm gonna treat stems like a gimmick until it is implemented on club gear. Seeing how long it is taking club to out phase even the CDJ-2000 & CDJ-2000 NXS1 I bet it will take 2 decades until it is fully implemented. Maybe the CDJ-3000 NXS or something will get stem features or the CDJ-3000 through an un update, but even then this leaves all older gear useless. Until then using stems is just for high level dj's who always get the rider they want (including future stem ready CDJ's), bedroom dj's or drive in dj's who bring their own controller or CDJ's.
I hear you on that! There are workarounds for those who use laptops at their club gigs (I do every so often!), but I really want to see how they're gonna implement stems on CDJs and DJMs!
It was a gimmick when Traktor attempted it and labels started releasing tracks in professional isolated stems - Nvidia chips in future gear combined with fast advancing AI updates will allow better and better sounding isolation on the fly in hardware and this will be the standard way of mixing. I have SC5000Ms and only wanted standalone hardware with no laptops, but last 6 months I have been having way more fun mixing DnB now than ever before... on the computer in Rekordbox using stems eliminating vocals from tracks and adding from others, its a whole new world of possibilities.
Well your missing out, its so much fun! Plus being able to record your own mashups on or off the fly is really fun. Best time ive had in a long time on the tables.
Creating all those mappings was NOT an easy thing to do, thank you for your time!
It was a challenge, but I had fun overall! Thanks so much as well for the donation Azcarz!!
@@djcarlo it's a nice style to have stems on the sampler bank, or shift-sampler. In fact, VDJ puts them there as standard.
Wow, this is an almost instantaneous level-up! Just the camelot key traffic light tip is gold on it's own!
Indeed! These techniques make up the foundation of my normal DJing!
Stems also gives the ability for make live mashups and drop effects on vocals alone, isolate bass leaving instruments with no filters, and many many more. I love Stems.
Theyre amazing to be honest!
Thanks for making all your videos, GREATLY APPRECIATE all the time you spend sharing tips, tricks, and skills. You're also a sick talented DJ. One of the best.
You're very welcome Tim! I have more of these tutorial videos lined up in the future!
@@djcarlo Looking forward to it.
Wow!!! The skin has been peeled from my ears. Thank you! O’ benevolent DJ Masta.🙏🏻
For sure man! Enjoy making crazy use of stems!
Only thing is, I can only select my Sample bank pads to use stems. It’s a difficult trade off. I use a Mixtrack Platinum FX on Serato 3.0.
I just got myself my first Dj controller DDJ-FLX6 GT and im using stems through VDJ, couse i read that VDJ is the best at the moment for stems, and im not dissapointed. I just need to practice and get good at djing using stems, and thats where your channel comes in. Thank you for your content, you are the best. :)
They've got the cleanest vocal separation so far! Keep getting good at it buddy! Stems are so much fun to play around with
Thank You for sharing/helping me out. Your videos are always on point, thanks again!
You're welcome Lou! Make the most out of stems buddy!
Thanks for putting the time in! I'm gonna have to try it out
Absolutely! I guarantee you'll have a blast!
thank you so much for the mapping! also all the amazing info. I'm new to doing and your videos are extremely helpful.
For sure Jacob! And more of these videos coming up for sure!
Holy moly this was the video I never knew I needed, thanks man I really appreciate this!!
For sure! Enjoy the stems buddy!
Thank you for this! You are amazing! Keep up the good work Carlo!
You're welcome Finnen! More tutorials coming up in the future!
another brilliant vid DJ carlo - Thanks for sharing all your knowledge as always!
For sure! Always got more of these guys coming up!
What an absolute legend. Did my first party yesterday and I have to thank you for all the tips your videos have taught me.
How was it? Could you tell me briefly your preparation and how the event went?
@@banksnicholson of course. I spent about a week listening to all of the music, learning every song, especially the ones requested, and the ones I didn't know I learned enough. I spent time setting up que points and practicing smooth transitions. I kept it very simple and tried not to overload my brain with too many tricks. I remember from this channel he said something along the lines of "People won't notice half of the crazy advance techniques but they will notice if you mess one up" so I kept the ear candy high so I played bangers that would catch everyone's attention constantly and kept it moving smoothly and nicely. And most importantly i climbed. I didn't come in swinging too hard. I started at a 7 (cardi b, I like it like that) and worked off that energy until I got to a steady 10. Then brought it back to a stable 7-8 while guaging everyone at the party. I watched and tried to understand the crowd and have a contingency for every possible outcome. People get tired and no matter how good the music is they will tire out. Once that second wind hits though build back up. Repetition and consistency create habit. And habit creates confidence.
@@killerchipz6412 thanks i hope u will be great DJ
@@tonysalazar7010 you too my friend
Keep up the great work Killerchipz! Love the positivity too Tony!
Thank you so much these videos..they are big help to me.
You're very welcome Krisztian! Make sure you have good clean fun with stems! :D
I have a Roland DJ 202. It has the stems features built in. 4 basic kill buttons and 4 echo out buttons. It's a really cool feature 👍🏼
That's great! Makes it much easier to use for stem mixing!
Whoa.... this just blew my mind. STEMS! I am updating my Serato as I watch this. Thanks for the heads up and the amazing video!
Get on it! It's an amazing way to add flavor to your sets, and honestly, it makes tight DJing cleaner for me
Really down Traktor still hasn't created a viable STEM solution. Been using Traktor for years due to the huge flexibility with mapping (S4 mk3, 2 Allen Heath K2s, F1, all customized). However, it's killing me Traktor doesn't have anything close to what you displayed. Always loved your videos over the years. Thank you
Right?! That's why, even as a Traktor lover, I haven't done any recent videos or even much with them! They're pretty stagnant unfortunately
Traktor literally released an entire controller for stems.... the S8.
Also, Rekordbox stems sound trash live, theres some decent AI stem splitters out there you can use with an S8 or Reckordbox tho.
You are a gangster for doing the mapping. Mad respect 👊❤
For sure Jon! It's the easiest way to help everyone get on board the stems train on Rekordbox haha
Nice tutorial bro. Thanks. You are a very talented DJ.
Thanks so much man! I really appreciate the kind words!
@@djcarlo your welcome bro. 👍
Stems in DJ software is great technology. My problem is that I am hearing it being overused already by DJs. There's no need to alter every other song in the mix. Throw in the possibility that it can immediately change the quality of the sound if you are using less than ideal files or software. Done sparingly with the right mix of songs, it can definitely enhance a mix.
I won't be using them because of my older setup - which I am OK with. I will still use acapella versions and instrumental versions when available.
Good instructional video as always on your part.
I believe theres a way to still use it in every other song, but only if used subtly. Like right before the transition, IF you're doing tight mixing. Otherwise, it has to be used creativly and sparingly, just like any technique
Thanks, thanks, thanks! Your videos are very useful and clear! Regards from Mexico.
Todos gracias amigo! I'm glad the videos are useful!
great tips to tighten/lighting it up!
For sure! Really glad you think so man. Enjoy making the most of stems in your sets!
I don't even have a DJ controller myself but I still love to watch these type of videos.
Even if you don't have the tools yet, learning something new is always great!
I laughed at the part where you hold the Mixstream pro up to your ear talking about volume. I know it has speakers but normally controllers don't have any built in speakers so it looks kinda funny to put your ear up to it.
I love that clip, just because it looks funny even for me hahaha
THANKS DJ CARLO FOR YOUR HELP 🙌🙌
You're super welcome as always Tushar!
@@djcarlo thank you sir
appreciate your efforts bro! Awesome job!!
Thanks Shivam! Hope you get to make good use of the stem-based lessons here in your sets!
Thanks for this very informative and helpful video. I will apply the mapping for ddj flx4. Cheers🎉
Let's go! Hope the mapping works out well!
Awesome info!
Of course! I'm always about spreading knowledge and information on this channel 😄
Wow thanks for this video! I'm an old fart been DJing on SL1200s since the 80s. Tried a Traktor for a while and got a bit bored of it, but yesterday thought I'd pick up a FLX4 for a laugh after seeing one of your vids and boy has it been a huge heap of fun so far. Loving Rekordbox and now I got stems working thanks to your maps im bouncing about the place like a teenager lol. Definitely earned a sub. Thank you!
I'm really glad you got back in the DJ saddle! Can't wait for you to discover more about the digital DJing world buddy! 🥳
You are brilliant
Thanks Tavo! Hope you get to make good use of stems in your sets!
you are a MACHINE!! Rock on
What can I say? I have a hard time sleeping at night if I don't get ideas up for my videos up haha
You r amazing! Big love❤
Hope you learned a couple new tricks from here!
Killin it like always 🤘 im never disappointed watching your videos and will always be a fan. Keep killin it my dude!!
Thanks my dude! Really appreciate the support!!!
@djcarlo I've been doing this for 3 going on 4 years now and have used your videos from the very start. You have made a huge impact on how i learned as a beginner, barely knowing how to use my controller to opening up for artists like stooki sound at major venues in my city and entering mixes for festivals. 🤘🤘🤘 we all appreciate the time you put into your content. Thank you for helping me further myself as an artist!
Dope!!! Thanks for putting this together!
6m back on another stem related video I asked you whether it'll replace EQs completely. Now we get to learn how they can compliment each other! This is amazing
Yeah use the best of both worlds!
Thank you Dj Carlo...you are really great 🤟🇵🇭
For sure! More of these tutorials are coming your way!
I just started DJing 45 days ago and I've already had my first event that went well but I wish I would have saw this video first. The STEMs are a game changer!!!
They are! And hey, congratulations on the first gig buddy!
@@djcarlo thanks. a new fan of your channel. Keep up the good work!!!
HOLY SH- CARLO! Im a newer DJ, and this is GOLD. Holy cow, I wanna give you a hug.
I'll take the virtual hug Joel! Thank you! Glad you love the video!
@@djcarlo I have Dj friends that have sent me to websites that will charge you 30 bucks to stem out a song, with varying results. All thse new controllers came out, and I felt so deflated, like Id never be able to catch up to what all the cool djs were doing. I may be trash, but you just gave me an opportunity. I want to learn this like the back of my hand and weaponize it. YOu are my hero, Carlo. As long as you keep pumping out videos, I promise to keep being here. Thank you so much.
Thanks for your help :)
For sure! Hope you learned something new from this little video! 😄
thank you for this info
You're welcome! Hope you get to make the most out of stems Syef!
I think there's pluses and minuses to stems. I wholeheartedly agree using stems for isolation and mashups is ideal now. I still think EQing when doing simpler track-to-track traditional mixing is ideal...mainly to control the amount of bass and bring in the new tune gradually, not to mention if the new tune has too much treble or what not compared to the previous.
My only hesitation on this style of mixing of constantly dropping out stems and using loads of tricks/effects to transition to the next tune is it creates a lot of work on the DJ if he/she were to do it all night, not to mention the constant fury of effects starts to get stale on the crowd. I'm more of the mind to save those moments for here and there to pick up the dancefloor, not a constant onslaught of it.
Also, not every tune ends up with nice clean stems, and I have seen too many DJs choose not to play a track if it suddenly can't beatmap ideally or the stems aren't clean...not an ideal philosophy in my opinion.
Quite well put! Yeah, beyond my initial excitement, I do say there's a balance between EQing and Stems to be had
Stems will never take over Eq ing. They are too simple
@@HBD2U78 I combine both, sometimes stems will not take away all frequencies you don't want in there depending on the track of your choosing, so Eqing can help you isolate the vocals better. I love both methods, but there is something about Eqing that is so appealing.
I am happy with the stems feature that you can also do it even with just a laptop (I use Virtual DJ). I’m getting confident on doing mashups on the fly with that feature, and even uploaded my mashups on social media (particularly TikTok)
Let's go Christian! Make the most of it!
Dude!, You are awesome!!! Thnks

Gotta keep 'em a notch above the rest!
You are insane! Amazing content, brother!
Thanks dude! Worked hard on this one for sure!
Bro, MAJOR knowledge bomb! Thank you!!
Right?! I mean, stems themselves aren't too much to explain, but HOW to use 'em? I found myself going down a technique and musical theory rabbit hole when making this video!
Nice. I still enjoy the oldskool way but this will be a great new addition to learn.
It's a great additional tool Chris! I guarantee you'll have a blast!

Thanks bro for the tips you made it easy-to-use hey if you can teach how to hook up you're audio equipment with the proper cable speakers to use etc...
Oh man, that changes per controller and per speaker system. That's why I haven't made a video on it; too many different input and output variables. I'd just recommend going for high-quality cables for everything

@@djcarlo I did knew about Stems in Music production but not really djing. It wasn't really on my radar 😂🫡

Wow!! Thank you
You're welcome Chico! Enjoy the ins and outs of stems!
I’ve been practicing djing for 4-5 months and I had barely found we had stem on serato about a week ago 😅 that’s the one thing you didn’t mention in your new recent videos and I’ve been watching your vids ever since my start😂😂
I did a video on Serato stems the moment it came out! That was back in October though
Kind of a bummer you omitted Virtual DJ instructions. They developed, and still have, the best STEMs separations. BUT, your videos really are top-notch. Thanks Carlo.
Yeah, haha, they don't need the extra marketing anymore, plus I don't actually personally use VDJ. A friend did show me how clean their stems were though! Serato came close, but VDJs vocal isolation is just nuts! Glad you still enjoyed the video though; the techniques here can be used for VDJ too!
Great video again. The "bad extracted vocals" example at 6:02 is extracted by rekordbox, isnt it? They usually have these resonant artifacts.
Oh and EQ ain't dead, we both know it ;)
I think I used an intentionally bad file for that one haha
Love the content DJ Carlo but it would be great if you could do demos and then really break down what your doing slowly for Noobs like me. It’s quite overwhelming and difficult to digest all the info at the rate at which the info bubbles are displayed! Keep up the great content!
Ah! Check out my How To DJ for Beginners and Only 3 Tricks videos. If you're just starting, videos like this may be a bit too advanced.
@@djcarlothanks so much for the reply!

OMG THIS TRICK WILL BE INSANE FOR MIXING HIPHOP/ POP MUSIC!!!
Indeed! I've been using stems for just that!
Midi Mapping is great when you have the real estate to add features. I have mapped my flx4 and ddj xp2 for the stem function but it does not replicating what flx10 can do.
I will buy the Akai Midi mix (I have the akai apc mini and tested some mappings) but this midi offers 9 sliders and 32 rotary knobs.
My idea is to have the on/off buttons on the dj controller using the knobs to control the level of the stems, I have tried it to control with the sliders but its not as good as with rotary knobs.
But I can also map the level and parameters of the effects, which can be applied to indivitual stem.
That's exciting! It's rare that I see someone who's as down to map as I am. Enjoy making it all work!
