This made my day! After bs work all day to come home and get to watch a review of one of my favs. With 2 of my favorite reviewers! Love binging you franchise reviews, awesome work as always gents..
It's a thrill to see this amazing cult phenomenon flick finally get the treatment from you boys, very exciting. And what a genuine pleasure to see how much fondness you have for "The Evil Dead". I remember the first time I viewed this film, on VHS tape, with a few friends, and we were completely amazed. We knew it was low budget indy fare, but what Raimi and the gang did was simply super and impressive ... it was so much more than just another cheap horror vehicle. And there are so many treats for the horror fan in the movie (be it your first viewing or your tenth): the comedy relief, the "Join Us" voice, the hilarious tune that returns in the end credits, the pacing, the unsettling reel to reel recording, the stop-motion work, the fantastic and wild camera work, Bruce's performance, and so on. Every time we watch this movie, my partner calls it "The Haunted Lawnmower" because of the low angle shots of the demon/presence zooming around the woods and toward the cabin-- as if the camera is taking that POV. I noticed you called the characters teens when they are college kids. I know, a fussy little criticism. Thanks so much. I'd been waiting for this particular review because "The Evil Dead" is so notorious and beloved. Good job as always. PS: The television series was rather fun. Different but somehow also maintaining the flavor of the trilogy. Definitely worth a watch.
To me, the Evil Dead did for the 80's what Night Of The Living Dead did for the late 60's-70's for the genre. Both were a shot in the arm for horror film making. They both shocked the audience with visual effects. Great film and franchise. Thanks boys!
Every once in a while we get a low-budget movie that breaks records to remind studios that they need good ideas, not just formulaic plots with big budgets. Unfortunately they never seem to learn and just milk the new idea dry instead.
I always thought it was possession by wood. First, the forest rape, then who knows really with Shelly, the pencil in Linda's ankle, and then the stick impaling Scotty.
So how is the ride after those 2 years? There is just something about Gary and Ian and their videos, voice, and the interaction between them and the movies they review.
Ash fucking rules. Oh that interview where attacked Sam Raimi for releasing this film is a big joke. I just hope they saw Evil Dead 2 and realize how stupid they are to think that the sequel shouldn't be seen because its gory....its a fun horror movie mixed with three stooges & looney tune moments. I love the weird sound the pov demon makes in part 2, sounds like a motorcycle. Maybe its haunted Harley Davidson motorcycle that lives in the woods.
If i don't get to have a drink with these two guys one day i will be unproportionally disappointed with myself and them. C'mon guys, i throw the first round. In all seriousness thank you Ian and Gary. Been watching quietly for years but just had to say something one day. You probably never see this comment or even respond to it but i am very thankful for all the work you put in. Cheers from Germany, John
It makes me laugh all the time when i see ash getting his sisters hand in her mouth and shes like "itS YOUr siSteR, CHherryll!! iM AlRiGht NOWWWWW!!" lmao
Evil Dead is my favorite horror franchise. I saw Evil Dead 2 first, and loved it. I then saw Army of Darkness and loved it. I saw The Evil Dead last. It’s my least favorite of the trilogy, but I still love it. I prefer the more comedy horror of Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness, and Bruce Campbell gives Ash more personality in those. The TV show “Ash vs the Evil Dead” is amazing. Bruce Campbell is one of my favorite actors. I’ve seen so many movies just because he was in them. Even if the movie sucked, I still enjoyed watching Bruce. Ash not being in the 2013 movie was the main reason I didn’t watch it. I still haven’t seen it, but I’ve heard good things.
When I was a kid my uncle explained video nasties to me and gave me a good grin 😂 showed me videos he'd bought and let me watch and I loved what I was seeing lmao way too young? Nah..maybe 😂 Evil Dead, Re Animator, I madman (that one freaked me out one of the earliest horrors I ever saw, probably cheesy these days 😂), zombie flesh eaters..fk good times and yes I'm normal 👌 Movies, gore and games do not make for a crazy person. Thanks for the re upload guys.
I still will never understand, forgive me for saying this, why calling stunt doubles fake shemps makes it a special event. Good movie though one of my faves.
Back in 82 we hired the living dead of Manchester mogue, thinking it was the evil dead....both films are awful...the tree rape was totally unnecessary....Great to watch in 82...
I am telling you right now if you are lucky enough to still have the origanal VHS tape with the origanal box you are sittimg on a fucking gold mine. These are so rare.
As far I know Bruce Campbell is nice guy, but when I think about characters he plays many of them are more or less assholes. Most notable exception is Brisco County, Jr.
The movie survives its rep only because of it. It's an absolute shambles of acting and fx. The power of it being a nasty is what made it famous for kids at primary school when the tape was getting swapped about.
Thanks for another re-upload guys, we shelfers appreciate the effort.
Great. Now I gotta watch the whole Evil Dead series and TV show again for the 1000th time...
Someone should compile all of Ian's intros into one video
You just gave Me an idea

Unusually in the UK. Evil Dead was released in the cinemas and on VHS at the same time, that rarely happens even now
I better not see any dislikes at all!

Always wondered where the review to the original Evil Dead was since y'all had covered 2 and Army of Darkness, good to see it up!
Never been so scared of branches
Another great video guys. Discovered your channel a few days ago. Lockdowning my way through your 8 year history.
So how is the ride after those 2 years?

I love how the tape they listen to says "Sam and Rob are The hitchhiker's on the road." in Portuguese.
Don't Forget Rain Man is on Tomorrow 11:25pm on BBC1 Iain & Gary ok

Having grown up in Holland we heard about the Video nasties in England but we never were affected by it. All movies were available in uncut versions.
I watched this movie with my Dad as a kid. One of my favorites.
Citizen Kane of Horror.
Sweet childhood with all of them.
Now it's a strange felling to watch Ash vs E.D with this ending.
It makes me laugh all the time when i see ash getting his sisters hand in her mouth and shes like "itS YOUr siSteR, CHherryll!!
iM AlRiGht NOWWWWW!!" lmao
This film is a work of genius compared to anything low-budget today with CGI.

I watched this with commentary and still got creeped out. That’s how good it is.

First!

Love the original, disliked 2 and 3.
It was terrible
