@@omi_god A trademark is a type of intellectual property consisting of a recognizable sign, design, or expression that identifies a product or service from a particular source and distinguishes it from others. There's an important caveat. The public domain image is specifically the _Steamboat Willie_ version of Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, not the more familiar renditions of the characters that followed. "You cannot use the characters in a way that misleads consumers into thinking that Disney has produced or sponsored your product," says Jennifer Jenkins teaches of Duke Law School. So you cannot use the image of Mickey Mouse to brand a mouse trap that you've invented.

Easy to simplify for people still confused
Mickey and Minnie are still in Disney’s ownership but at least their earliest designs will be in the public domain meaning only stream boat willie’s designs for the characters can be able to be use in anything (but I’m pretty certain Disney will still try and sue you if you use Mickey’s and Minnie’s names in anything)

It's simple once you understand what's happening Mickey's trademark unless Disney chooses not to renew it that won't expire plus every year after Monday, it would every short released 95 years afterwards would be in the public domain. Like in 2025, his 1929 shorts will enter public domain 2026, his 1930 shorts ect.

The works of Bach and Mozart are public domain. If it were not for public domain, the estates of Bach and Mozart would have control of the works and they would be able to charge fees for the recording and/or performance of their work. Those fees will be passed onto the consumer. There will be no more free concerts. You will have to pay more for the admission price of a ticket to see a concert of their work. Records, CDs, and digital downloads of their work will be more expensive. There will be more paid advertisements on radio and streaming platforms to pay for the extra fees.

However, like it or not, this is how the copyright system works as it inspires creativity. Plus, ironically enough, Disney has been using the public domain for many years for many of their films that have helped make them famous and successful such as Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs, Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, Beauty And The Beast, Aladdin, The Hunchback Of Notre Dame, Tangled, Frozen, etc. If not for the public domain all of the Disney versions of those works would probably not exist, so this is part of why the public domain is so important in the first place.

The copyright for Mickey Mouse has been extended multiple times in the United States due to changes in copyright law. The character remains under copyright protection, and it is owned by The Walt Disney Company.
However, it's important to note that copyright laws can differ between countries, and there may be specific circumstances or exceptions that could affect the copyright status of certain works. To obtain the most accurate and up-to-date information regarding copyright expiration, it's advisable to consult legal resources or news outlets that specialize in copyright law.

Especially since there’s so many different opinions on how they should be handled and different stories to tell, the corporations are robbing so many opportunities for storytellers to tell their version of many iconic characters like Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, Hulk, Wolverine, etc.

Not for those who make a living off their creativity or paid good money to preserve the past. A Copyright protects the integrity of the work so it can be used over and over keeping the meaning and the purpose that made it great. Now it’s much easier with the internet and CZcams, but you should be creative enough, not just depend on someone else’s abilities. All the government is doing is encouraging plagiarism!
