    I’ll add my vote to the knife. A light weight EDC with teeth that has served me well so far. There are other options available if the price is a bit much (Esee Izula in S35vn for example) but if you’re a collector of useful things go for it without regret.

    I have one…. Or two😂, after seeing the prototype being tested in person with Ed in one of his classes I was really impressed with it’s usage and effectiveness even with the thin blade, im in love with how light and dexterous it feels in hand and like you said how “natural” it feels because it is such a straightforward pairing knife at heart, which I think could also lend itself to a first time fixed blade purchaser!!!, I was able to fit a DCC mod 2.1 onto mine but mostly carry it with static cord 👌 for me a 9.5/10 for me, for what it’s meant to be, an overbuilt kitchen knife, my only wish would be a bit more thickness in the blade for longevity and durability!🔥

    Never carried a fixed blade for edc but this one from tops is a must . Who cares if it’s an overbuilt pairing knife it gets the job done and stays out the way .

  • @KatoCoyoteCombatWorkshop

    blade and grip are pretty cool but there's a particular irony in taking the cheap, easily found and replaced kitchen knives that the man is so fond of and selling this for a bill and a half

    Honest appraisal! Afterall, the original Elvia was a fruit knife. Tops does tend to provide a basic knife in seemingly limitless design patterns. Too bad they didn't go with 154CM on the Pionero, as they did with their Rapid Strike. 👊🗡️✌️

    I honestly dont know. I love TOPS, but im almost done with 1095. I'd be happier 80crv, or 5160, 52100. Or, like Esee, offer your smaller blades in a tough stainless steel. They've already used both s35, and 154cm (like on my bull trout). The clip mechanism should be an Ulti-clip

    • @tacticaltavern
      @tacticaltavern  Před 6 měsíci +1

      I love stainless steels too
      Especially because the technology is way better these days
      I also love discrete carry concept clips 🔥 but ulti clips do a solid job too

    I‘d love the see S35VN on this as this is more stain redistent with kitchenwork and everyday stuff. For self defense knly Carbon would be good. But only for this it is too expensive for anyone else than Ed Calderon type of sctive duty users. S35VN would also help eith presious bodily fluids to quote a famous movie catchline 😅

    while this is a really cool design i think that asking 220 US is ridiculous and laughable for a blade that is essentially a pairing knife that isnt stainless. CRKT has one thats very similar called the Biwa that has the same features and runs for 1/4 of the price and is stainless.

    • @tacticaltavern
      @tacticaltavern  Před rokem +2

  • @canadafree2087

    The knife is properly held reverse grip, edge in. Stab and pull the edge towards yourself. It is primarily a self-defense knife. Ed was a fan of hooked kitchen knives and added that index finger notch into a Victorinox curved paring (or fruit/veg) knife; the notch idea came from his mother who would grind the notch on her knife. I love Ed's stuff but it is for close in work. I used to have the TOPS Street Scalpel which was narrow like that one but the blade was way too thick. I think TOPS is seeing the usefulness behind thinner blades in some of their knives.

    • @tacticaltavern
      @tacticaltavern  Před rokem +1
