In the neighborhood of Harlem in New York city, a young man in the 1930's named, Dickie Wells created chicken and waffles. He served the creative food concoction to feed the people coming from the after hours night clubs who weren't sure if they wanted breakfast or dinner.
Spent the first 30 years of my life living in and around Detroit, but relocated to Georgia almost 10 years ago. I used to visit a couple of times a year, but visits are fewer and farther between the last few years. No matter how long I've been in Georgia, Detroit is still home. ❤️

Have you thought about putting cameras outside the van if it doesn’t have them already? Another option to use for security like one would a house/apartment.
Let me know if you ever want to camp in Detroit in a residential neighborhood. The street parking in front of and around my childhood home is usually wide open and our next-door neighbor still lives there after all this time so I can always give her a heads up that you'd be parking out front. It might even be possible to park in her driveway.
You have risen quickly in your subs. And I can see why.. You seem very real. Very honest. Showing your reality living as a nomadic person. Thanks for taking us along for your adventures😊😀!
Do you have a P.O. Box? I’d like to send you some seasoning from Louisiana. It’s a Cajun seasoning blend called Tony Cachere’s. Mostly cayenne, paprika, I believe garlic powder and some other spices. If you want to avoid cold weather. Sedona, Arizona has camping areas (no noise) for one month. Very close to downtown. Beautiful landscape for long walks, hiking etc. art galleries. Nice shops, coffe and Restaurants. Weather is very good.
Ty for showing that paying for a place isn't evil. Can give such peace of mind if you need a break from being stealthy. When I was doing car life, there were times (think being super sick) that I just wasn't up to moving everyday to a new spot, so yeah, I spent 4 nights in a hotel parking lot. Best $20 I ever spent. Bathroom, free wifi, and I could even hit the breakfast buffet in the morning at no extra charge.
The one thing I have learned is this. Whether you’re in the RV or in a car, most people really don’t care. If you’re not drawing attention, most people are doing their thing and don’t even notice unless someone knows about custom-made vans or class B RVs, they’re not really gonna question it or even care. That’s the cool part about it. I lived for eight months, moving between to Walmart parking lot and nobody said one word and I never had one problem. It was truly, amazing lol

You might like the Indiana Dunes beach region. Also if you go to Northern Indiana the Amish village of Shipshewanna is very unique and charming. They have cabins and a RV hookup place just North of the village. Great home cooking at buffet at the Blue Gate Restaurant and hotel. A nice village to visit. They also have theater music concerts and an Amish theater. Very unique quiet place.

We went to a little bakery there & an old bar with gorgeous woodwork & a warm atmosphere. We've also gone to Tiger games. It's a fun place to spend a couple days. Beautiful really. 🌃 Good memories.
I am glad you were able to find surface parking. What limits me to visiting most downtown locales is the parking garage height limits. My van is 7'10" and the garages are too low. I have only been to downtown Detroit once, but I may have to visit again. The architecture is mighty pretty. The old buildings--not the modern ones. 😄

Thank you for sharing your journey. I lived in a campground in a van for 18 months, it was awesome. It was my dream come true and I miss it so much.
As soon as you said you’re getting more shrimp, I out loud said to your video, “Don’t forget the butter!” Thanks for sharing your journey. You’re fun & funny, especially when you take a bite of food you really enjoy 😊
So funny! I said the SAME THING 🤣🤣🤣
I'm so glad I found your channel. Your vanlife vlogs are the only ones I can actually sit and watch through in its entirety. Youre a breath of fresh air in the youtube world, authenticity and intelligence at its finest! Thanks for taking us with you! I hope you find your contentment! Safe travels!
You made my day with all the excitement you expressed with the Detroit Chicken & Waffle breakfast. It looked so good, made me almost to kick my pescatarian lifestyle.
I love Detroit. Detroit has pockets. I don't want to reveal, where I stay at all night. But I'm definitely in the safety part of Detroit. The simplicity of being in my van. 🥰
@EWIG LEBEN yes, Motor City has a huge parking deck.
You should message her privately and let her know where the safe places are.
Detroit is fabulous!
@@Ohiogirl419 I wish, I knew how to do that without divulging my true identity. Detroit have pockets. There are some areas, you don't want to be in. Poverty make some people do desperate things.
@@Ohiogirl419 I am going to see, what I can do because I'm sitting in a free parking area .100% safe. 99% crime free. Well lite.
Oh my gosh! You are so fun 😂 I’m a Detroit suburbanite and I definitely want to check out that restaurant. I was drooling watching you eat that chicken. Born and raised in MI so it saddens me you want to leave but adventure is calling you, I get it. So I’ll keep watching and see where you land. Safe journey.
You're right by the VA center. It is across from AT&T.
NI I so love Detroit. My boyfriend lived and died there at your age. Cancer claimed him. We visited Canada daily or just whenever. It is so beautiful there. Thanks I will go back this spring. I vow during my van life 6 month thing. I loved the Motown visit. Oh my God what memories you reminded me of. God I love your videos. Thanks for sowing me how to park safely.
I love how chilled you looked while you had your drink at the bar. :D
When I was young I had always thought when I retired I would love to have a van or an RV and travel and see things unfortunately my health has not allowed this so I just want to let you know I am so enjoying watching your CZcams videos with you in a van doing what I thought I would like to do I can hardly wait until you do some more travelling take care of yourself be safe and have lots of fun while you’re young thanks for the videos
Thank you for documenting and sharing your journey. I feel like I'm riding along in the passenger seat with you. You have been a GIFT. You're valued more than you know.
I love how you consider every aspect of overnight parking including a safe exit.
Yes, you definitely have to make sure whoever’s in a lot runs a lot. There’s a lot of scammers in the parking lots down there that are not the owners at all.
I'm new to this channel and found myself subscribing after like 3 videos, there is something very calming about them!! Its beautiful, thank you for sharing with us, peace and blessing to you!
I was cracking up when you were describing how good that breakfast was 😂 glad you enjoyed it. Stay safe
When i was a truck driver i loved to get loads headed to Detroit because i can also tell you that yes Detroit Michigan does have the BEST FOOD Ever & you'll Definitely want to try other restaurants in Detroit also because the food there is Absolutely off the chain.
That shrimp dish and your breakfast both look delish😋. I love how you always keep your head on a swivel and think about your safety. Take care.
People in this world could take lessons from you about speaking and showing the truth.
I wish that van life had been as easy to get in when I was a travel nurse. What fun I would have had up and done the west coast.
Beautiful spirit you have! Beautiful journey! You enjoy life's little pleasures. 🙂
Your channel has grown so much .... so well deserved! Love your kindness and honesty. Thank you for sharing your journey.....
I lived in Detroit for many years, west side. Loved the city. Enjoy your videos about Michigan. Home away from home.
Thank you for being honest because some content creators make it look all glitter and gold!
Girl, I’m definitely not gonna be able to do van life but I watch several van lifers and you are one of my favorites!!! I enjoy watching you cook and listening to all your ups and downs! Hugs and prayers for health and safety ❤️🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻
Detroit!!!! what up doe! 😂😂😂😂
Yes...I always tip well too!! If we don't have enough for a good tip, we eat at home 🙂. That meal looked AMAZING!! 😋
I sincerely appreciate your thorough clarity & focus with your assessment for ease and security in choosing your stealth- camping spaces.
Hello Miss Nomad! I love, love, love your latest recipe. Since I love 🔥 food, I'm going to look for the chilli infused olive oil, so thanks for the tip! Be safe sweetheart and please know we are constantly waiting for your video updates. Stay safe, continue to be adventurous and we'll be along for the ride! 💜 PS, Never apologize for the passion you have for sharing your safety tips! Paranoid? Certainly NOT!!! We want you Safe!😘
My hometown!!❤ It did my heart good to see a little bit of downtown. It made me a little homesick. I haven't been back in a while, but Detroit will always be home.
I’m so intrigued by you and what you have accomplished in these last 7 months. I love watching your videos so keep them coming. Thank you for being so honest. Safe travels
I enjoy your videos so much. I have spent the last five days up around the clock with my elderly mom who has dementia and she couldn’t sleep. Been a long five days and nights and this video was like a breath of fresh air just like all your videos. I Enjoy them! Thank you.
@CCMCCM. Hi stay strong I understand what are going thru with your Mom. God bless you for taking care of her. If you don't mind what state are you in? There is a lot of help out there.
I too am taking care of my mom who has dementia. Mom is 88 and I can relate to the all-nighters. Stay strong. 💞
@Wanda George . It's one of the most rewarding, stressful, beautiful, heartbreaking, life-changing things to do taking care of a loved one with Dementia. I am in Florida there is a lot of help in every state. Let me know if you need the info.
@@2525besty I’m in California. I enjoy her videos because of her calm demeanor and travel adventures! As a caregiver, our days are long and hectic. It’s nice to do a little traveling with her. I have to sleep with my mom because she often wakes up scared. I won’t get to do any traveling until this assignment is done. It’s nice to know there are others sharing this caregivers experience. Bless you. 💞
I love how you know what you like to eat!
Yes. no cheese sometimes.
When you smiled in the breakfast restaurant you made my day ! So cute and sincere ! 😊
Glad to see you are doing well, I'm the senior who enjoy watching. I love to travel my friend whom I travel with is sickly right now. Be blessed
I really admire planning and preparation. I also suspect that your military training enhanced your expertise in awareness. I know so many people who really lack any sense of self awareness but that’s another story. Safe travels!
And that chicken! Looks so good.
That was shrimp 😊
So much for awareness 😂
Those who say that was shrimp didn't watch until the end. But yeah, that Chicken did look good 🤤🤤
@@user-ym9ds1ox3u the chicken and waffles were so good at the end of the vid! Or were you aware?
Nice to see you in my city☺️
You are right to always prioritize your safety first. It's not paranoid. You're smart actually unlike people who think nothing can ever happen to them. Take care
Bless you for showing your appreciation to the ladies at the Detroit Waffle House and the good reviews for them.👌
Good morning fam!
It's a bit chilly out but Spring is coming soon 🤗 Thanks for sharing your experience.
Thanks so much for sharing your day with me. I so appreciate you. An I haven't been to Detroit house of pancakes. Or the casino. Thanks to you me an my husband will be heading to Detroit for the weekend. Gurl you have a amazing day. Everyone watching have a amazing day as well. Love you nomadic
Park in the MGM deck, it's huge and convenient
For real tho, you can't beat $10 a night compared to a hotel!! You're very wise and such a good commentator on this life, I'm learning so much from you, thank you! FWIW, I LOVE hanging out in casinos and catching a show and enjoying the buffet - there's always great food for a bargain in casinos! Safe travels & mercies on your journey Nomi!!
Did Nomi go to a casino?
I got SUCH a kick out of you enjoying yourself at that Detroit House of Pancakes! Wish I could have transported there! Looked awesome. 😋
My Wednesday just got that much better! Good morning and I hope you are doing well!
I ❤ Detroit especially downtown!! Thanks for the sight see. When you pulled off and saw that chair laying there and thought it was a setup I burst out laughing 😆😆. Your videos are so bomb. Peace & Blessings to you 🙏🏾☺️.
The fact that that you can eat spicy without any water or anything to drink. I cannot just starting to like a little spice in my food. You go girl!
A side dish of plain yogourt takes the heat away if it gets too much!
Some use a glass of milk.
I love the nightlife in Detroit. I wish you would write a cookbook, your meals always looks so delicious. I like that you are showing your audience new place to stay that are safe & a little out of the box. Stay safe ~Sabrina ~
Love your videos so much. Was so glad when it came up. Thanks for sharing your life. Be safe and warm. 😊
I enjoy watching your videos & it's even more adventurous now that you are finally doing some traveling, this is so Kool.. Thanks for sharing your life with us.. Stay safe & Stay warm💜❤️💜
I’m so glad you are talking about situational awareness. Be safe! ❤
Security is so important and I appreciate you reminding us. I live in my stationary RV. Outside the campground are some sketchy people. My safety is always a top priority. I too love to cook at home so learning what cook is a new ballgame. Rarely do I eat out maybe carry out added to whatever I cook. I should just go eat alone. The experience makes you appreciate the opportunity.
I absolutely love you sharing this journey. And always that first bite!
I’m a fairly new Subscriber and I have been binge watching all your videos.. I am so glad I found your channel. You have helped calm my anxiety and PTSD. Thank you 🙏 and can’t wait to see more of your beautiful journey
Hi, Happy brand new Wednesday. You are not paranoid I live in a home and I look out my window before I go outside to make sure nobody's on my porch or in my yard I'm always careful☮️🙏❤️
I think a lot of your skills come from your military experience, good that you are sharing all this and making people aware of what they should be aware of that they may not have even considered.
I love how excited you were talking about your delicious meal! 😆 all that personality 😆 clapping hands 👏🏾 you’re too dope 💜 adore your energy!
Hello dear! First, Thank you for always taking us on your amazing journeys! This is great, and you are very entertaining! Also, just want you to know that, recently, I've had a rough week...getting better as of today, so, watching your videos comforts me when I need the positive energy. 😊 I hope you know how incredibly special you are to your fam! Please keep up the great content! 👍
You rock!!
“The People Mover” is the rail service. I miss home but not that cold snow🥰. I love watching your show. I amazed at your comfort. I’m not sure if I cold do what you do! ❤❤❤❤Stay safe
I've been following you on CZcams through my TV for a while. I had to log on to comment on the Detroit video. I enjoy playing the guessing game of the areas that I believe you may be in (just to see what I recognize). It's so many places I could recommend to stay in or near the city... the casinos parking decks are free and pretty safe with common sense. Thank you for showcasing the city in a good light. I can't wait to watch what's best for you and your journey ❤️ If you need a safe place to park outside the city please let me know. I have a large drive way. Wishing you the best on your journey
Same here. When she drives around I look for street/highway signs. ;)
This was such an awesome, open, transparent video, I thoroughly enjoyed it fam! Thank you for your honesty, we continue to pray for your safety on your journey. 🙏💕
Wow, that breakfast looked so good. I'm a vegetarian but that chicken looked crispy and delicious. Thank you for enjoying a piece for me. I appreciate all of your videos. Be Blessed and stay safe everyone!
What a great shrimp and rice recipe! Love your cooking! The breakfast looked awesome! I live in Canada and have never seen chicken served on waffles! What a great combo! Thank you for sharing your life, adventures and journey! ❤
You are a wonderful, adorable gal who is a joy to watch & listen to. I’ve always loved to travel and your van life is extremely interesting and often fun to vicariously view. Fun to see part of Detroit today! *(Many Years ago when I was a young girl, I used to travel with an orchestra and I performed in the old Fisher theater in Detroit and stayed in the Detroit Plaza when it was very new for a few weeks). Thought Detroit was a very nice city! Praying for your health & safety at all times! You are a very dear person, and it’s a privilege to be part of your CZcams Fam! Virtual hugs and have a blessed rest of your day!! 🤗🙏💖
I love your vids, And having moved from my home in SE Michigan to Oklahoma I love seeing familiar sights. Please, one thing before you leave Mich will you please make a coney run? And eat one for me, with mustard and extra onions lol! You can't get a real coney outside of Michigan.
In texas they don't know what real ethnic foods are, they only know barbecu, fried food, I miss all the authentic ethic foods. They don't know what real unfrozen fish is also.
I agree and a real coney island breakfast!
Preach sister! I love how you take advantage of each teachable moment. I have learned so much and I'm squirrelling everything away for when I make my move. And that meal looked fantastic. Thank you for sharing. 🐢
I also ❤️ Detroit! My friend Chip & I visited Detroit the day & evening before I moved out of Michigan. Detroit is a great travel destination with lots to do. We went to a little bakery there & an old bar with gorgeous woodwork & a warm atmosphere. We've also gone to Tiger games. It's a fun place to spend a couple days. Beautiful really. 🌃 Good memories.
Lmao when you saw that chair and said "I thought it was a setup". I think the same way 🤣🤣🤣
you chose that kind of life some people do it bcuz they have to not bcuz they want to
I am glad you were able to find surface parking. What limits me to visiting most downtown locales is the parking garage height limits. My van is 7'10" and the garages are too low. I have only been to downtown Detroit once, but I may have to visit again. The architecture is mighty pretty. The old buildings--not the modern ones. 😄
Those chicken and waffles looked like they tasted the Bomb!! I really would love to try that place if I am ever in the area.
Loving your longer videos! Ohhh that chicken & waffles looked amazing! Stay blessed!
