Just got off the cruise Wednesday we did a two day pre-stay at Budapest at the New York hotel. One of the most amazing experiences I’ve ever had really enjoyed Viking.
Thanks for sharing! It really is an incredible experience. ☺️
Thank you! Enjoyed this very much.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thank you for watching 😊
Two things - Viking fan here!
My Dad was born and raised just outside of Vienna. Way back in 1978 I was able to go over with my parents, and he gave us an insider’s tour around the city. He had gotten his architecture degree at Vienna Polytechnic University, so shared architectural details with us. He also knew the locals’ favorite restaurants, then to a local heurigen (for wine drinking) in his village (Viking often offers that as an evening tour). Seeing Vienna that way beats any type of land or cruise tour, so I was very lucky.
Yes, I’m afraid we really only visited the tourist ‘hot spots’ in Vienna, it’s such a beautiful city I can’t imagine what it would be like to get an ‘insiders’ view.
Thanks for watching and commenting 👍
We just finished a cruise on Viking INGVI and agree with you that this was a most spectacular river cruise! Our crew was awesome which made the trip even more enjoyable and pleasant. Seeing your video clips reminded us of many of the same places we visited. Our big difference was that we took the first cruise of the season (same direction as yours) in mid-March; the weather was chilly but dry and beautiful except for our trip up the Wachau Valley and in Linz, it snowed, sleeted and rained on us. The nice weather returned for Passau. We agree with you on the end of the cruise being a bit sad, who likes packing and thinking it is all over after all you've seen! We are thinking of a Rhine Christmas cruise next year and may the Romantic Danube thereafter. Thanks for the video and memories.
Thank you. Sounds like you got all the weather in one cruise 😁👍
I heartily agree, the Danube is a must.
We took Tauck's Blue Danube cruise from Budapest up the river, then a transfer to Prague, a few years ago. It was all amazing, with Budapest, Vienna, and Prague being highlights.
Thank you for watching and commenting 😊

Oh my goodness. Brings back wonderful memories. We did this cruise in April after they started cruising after Covid! We had to test every morning for Covid. Day 3 one guy was taken off, and on the last night during dinner they came and told another one. They were taken to hotels (5 star) in Budapest and ended up staying 8 days! ( on Viking ) That part wasn’t good but the cruise was great. I would do it again!!! Thank you !
Gosh, we remember cruising with all that hassle. So glad we don’t have to do that any more but also glad we were able to cruise in those horrible times. 😊
The amazing Ultravox song is one of many reasons why a trip to Vienna is on my bucket list. There are several songs about Vienna - another notable one is Billy Joel's - and they all evoke the beauty and wonder that I expect to feel while exploring the city.
We hope you get to Vienna one day, it’s such a gorgeous city, and one we hope we get the chance to revisit one day too.
Thanks for watching and commenting 👍
We just booked this cruise on Viking in 2026. Doing pre and post excursions also. We love Viking!
Fabulous! You’ll have the best time. 😍
Just found your channel! We are heading for our first river cruise on the Danube in June. Your voice reminds me of the guy who has the channel Memory Seekers. Enjoyed the video and now looking thru your older ones.
Thank you. Not sure who that is but will take a look/listen. Hope you enjoy the rest of our content 👍
I just came back from this 7 day cruise… only we started in Passau and ending with an amazing evening cruise into Budapest! There were a few drawbacks. We went during record breaking heat but Viking offered a cold bottle of water as we would leave the ship for the day. It always felt great to come back to our nice air conditioned ship! The other big drawback for me is that I brought home an unwanted souvenir which was a nasty case of Covid which is going around again. I’m still recovering.
We had a wonderful time despite the heat! The service and food were A+ with Viking….and I even lost six pounds despite all of the desserts that I ate. Must be all of the walking!
Oh dear, such a pity that these things marred what sounds like an otherwise good cruise.
Thanks for watching and commenting 👍
I think you definitely do the Danube proud. We did this trip in reverse on the same ship in November 2021 just as the Christmas markets were opening after Covid. It was terrific, and looked equally good in the sunshine.
Thank you Martin ☺️
How I enjoyed this latest video of yours- made even more enjoyable because it was longer than your other ones🥰I have been on a Danube river cruise on Viking a few years ago- your video brought back wonderful, wonderful memories! I hope to take another Danube River cruise🤞🤞
Thank you ☺️
Fantastic video. I got a bit geeked out by those Viking Coaches. They looked amazing 😂
Thank you. The coaches do look great don’t they?
Thanks you! You both are of favorite travel follows on CZcams. You travel very similar to how my wife and I travel so it’s great entertainment and research.
Thank you so much ☺️
We really appreciate your kind words and support.
Happy cruising to you both 🛳️❤️
Those views ❤
Wow! Spectacular views!! I need to do one of these!
We hope you get to do it one day, it’s a beautiful itinerary.
Thanks for watching.
Could I just talk like Rich for a day- accent, tone, and jokes- all quite brilliant really
In 2018, we completed Viking's 15-day cruise that started like your cruise in Budapest but went onwards from the Danube to the Rhine to Amsterdam... spectacular experience and that felt too short - could only imagine how 7 days would feel. We found Sachertorte was better from Ohhh Vienna's Cafe Demel, where this Sacher fellow that cooked up the recipe was working at the time.
Thank you for your kind words. Sounds like we need to go back and find that cafe in Vienna now 😂
Felt like I was there from Silistra to Regrnsburg, cake-coma'd all the way through. One of the things that warmed me up to river cruising was how close you are to the city centers. Though I wonder if you ever have the option to explore on your own if you'd prefer it. Those thermal spas are like interactive history come to life - taken OUTTA da musem. Love so much when historic spaces that often are clinked behind ropes, like would be expected for an elaborately sensitive venue like a century to centries old health spa, are used for its same original purpose. Incredible.
I've finally embraced being a typical tourist. You just gotta OWN it. I've been a Southern California native all my life, for example, and yet still haven't fulfilled a lot of the basic touristy excursions to some of the most iconic Los Angeles landmarks. A tourist in my own backyard? Tally ho!
I'm leaving for Berlin next Sunday to start a Gate 1 tour which concludes with a 7 day Danube river tour. Better deal for a solo traveler. Planning to do the Gellert Spa in Budapest. Thanks for showing it. Glad it's within an easy walk of the cruise port
Hope you have a great time. Thanks for watching 😊
Very entertaining and informative for my upcoming cruise in August.
Glad you found it helpful. Thanks for watching 😊
Beautiful video! Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thank you ☺️
Great review. We did this exact same cruise with Viking in 2014 as our first ever river cruise. It is probably the best European river cruise itinerary to do (the Douro comes a close second).
We loved the Douro too, stunning scenery. Have you done the lower Danube? It’s pretty incredible too.
Thanks for watching 👍
Yes. We did the lower Danube in 2022 with Emerald. Not quite as spectacular as the Budapest to Passau stretch but still well worth it, particularly as it takes in so many Eastern European countries. I enjoyed the first day in Bucharest as I can remember when Nicolae Ceausescu was in charge. Also Belgrade was an interesting place. I studied Joseph Tito in college so it brought back memories. We are on another Emerald cruise this year on the Rhone in the Loire valley. Happy days.
Really liked this style of presentation, a great watch. We did this Viking cruise in December 2019 for the Xmas markets and have to say everything was faultless. Have their French river cruise booked for next year and look forward to being well looked after again. Brilliant content, thank you. 🙏
Thanks me ole booty. We have more fun doing it this way but we also like to keep things a little varied. ☺️
Cheers guys...just got back from that very cruise (on the Viking Aegir). Had a super time.
Good to hear 😁
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment 😊
I've seen the Viking boats in Lyon, Budapest and Porto. It made me sad when I realized that these people will never experience the fine food and wines that are served only a few hundred feet away.
@@jamesripton7120 Guests are perfectly free to go ashore and sample some of the brilliant local restaurants and they frequently do - us included. It’s all part of the cruise experience. 🙂
We’ve both watched this one in bed, Sunday morning, with a cup of coffee (raining in Staffordshire as usual !). Brought back lovely memories of our own 2 Danube cruises. Agree, the Wachau valley section is beautiful - we did the included bike ride from Melk to Durnstein which was fabulous. Presumably, given the amount of cake/chocolate you consumed on this trip, you now take statins intravenously ? 😂 As always, thanks for a great video.
We didn’t have the option to do that bike ride - should imagine it was stunning.
Hope we cheered you up a bit on a rainy Sunday morning 😊
I absolutely LOVE your videos. Great content guys and both of you are awesome. Cheers 🥂
Thank you sooo much. We really appreciate the kindness and support. 😊
We stayed at the Intercontinental in Budapest as well for our Christmas Markets cruise last December, really beautiful hotel. I think Budapest is the most beautiful city I have ever been to, just wonderful. We were on Avalon and visited most of the same cities, although it was much colder and a bit snowy here and there.
It’s a great hotel indeed Lou. And we agree, Budapest is an absolute gem and you need much more than a day here to appreciate its beauty. 😊
@@visitwithus Yes, I agree, you need more than a day so the next time we are going to start in Budapest and do a couple of days before the cruise.
Great videos, and your jokes are just fine, my friend :)
Thank you kindly. 😊
We're doing this cruise in December for the Christmas markets. Has anyone here done this, in recent years?
Thanks for watching. We’re doing our first Christmas markets cruise later this year - Vienna round trip. Can’t wait 🤩
thank you for this video, it's very helpful. I'm doing this cruise in September and trying to make a decision about excursions. The section where you sailed during the day in the Wachau valley, we are offered an optional excursion to bike along the Wachau valley and end up in Durnstein to rejoin the ship. I have biked along the river from Melk, where the big abbey is, to Krems, on a previous visit to Vienna but was considering doing this excursion because it's such a beautiful stretch of the river. Now that I've seen your video, I think I would actually rather enjoy sailing down the river on the sun deck of the ship. There's also an optional excursion in Passau to do the hike that you all did way up that hill, and I would love to do that, either on my own or with the guide. I plan to eat nearly as much cake as you all did, so I need to get in my steps. Thanks again for a lovely informative video.
Glad you found it helpful. We had some friends who did the bike ride only a few weeks ago and though we’d normally love to do something like that, they said it was a long ride and like you say, I think we had a better experience viewing it from the shop. Hope you have a great cruise and thanks for watching 👍
I'm American and I remember the song! 😀
Thanks for watching 😊
Okay Rich, so you remember the QM2 trip my wife and I were on in December 2019, the one where I had an issue with the security guy getting a little out of line ??? Okay, well on that voyage was a special guest speaker, named Midge Ure, yeah that one, great guy to talk to. I'm thinking about taking the family on a river cruise next year, this one is high on the list.
Wow, would love to have met him, a music legend for sure.
Thanks for watching and commenting 👍
cheers, enjoyed...
Thank you ☺️
Reasons why I like Viking … well, I’m of Swedish ancestry 🇸🇪 . NO CHILDREN ✅☺️. No casino 👍🏻 Clean minimalist Scandinavian decor (just like at home 😳🙄). So glad to see you had such a wonderful week on the River. Now then, the gym is calling 🤔😉👍🏻😂
Thank you ☺️
I'm ready to go!!!!
See you on board! 😆🥂
Though I enjoy all your videos, this one was especially well done. Congrats on a well balances and informative tour. Now if only I could find some diabetic sugar-free cakes on my river cruise and stops in Vienna!!
Thank you so much. 😊 We didn’t look but would be interested to know if they had sugar free cakes in the menus of those cafes. Good luck! 👍😀
Ultravox - Vienna. Memories :)
👍👍👍
Thanks for watching.
A third of the way through this video, and these two have already eaten 17 cakes. God DAMN!
It follows that we’re no stranger to the gym. 😂
Stop cursing!!
Hi guys.
Big question.
Doing this criuse next month only thing we cant find info on is Hungarian currency.
Austria and Germany are obviously Euros but Hungary uses the Forint.
Do you take Forints with you or do you use euros?, which they except but apparently you do get charged at a poor exchange rate for items purchased with Euro's
Hi Lee. We didn’t take any local currency and used euros for tipping. Otherwise we found everywhere accepted contactless payment so we used that for meals, drinks, taxis, entrance tickets etc.
Hope you have a great cruise, it’s a beautiful part of the world and stops at some lovely cities 👍
Hi guys, I did a Danube cruise with Uniworld in 2022 it was spectacular, have you two sailed on a Uniworld ship yet? Cheers !
Yes, we love Uniworld and have quite a lot of content on various destination sailed with them. We’ll put a link to the playlist below. Thanks for watching👍

@@visitwithus I have done most of the European rivers with them love their product, might do a Christmas market one this year once II am back on my feet medically speaking
love your content by the way have a great weeknd both of you
Great video! I think you probably intended to write 'Viking have not had prior preview' rather than 'have had prior preview' in your disclosure.
Thanks for pointing that out. I’ll change it. 👍😊
Sounds like you really needed the 2 week cruise.
Always 😆
Thanks for watching 👍
You were invited which means it was paid for by Viking. I just got a quote for an off-season Viking cruise Amsterdam to Budapest and for a state room with a veranda. It was going to cost over $9000 per person. How about doing a review on a cruise you pay for yourself.?
@@Retiredtraveler1961 Tell me, do you watch car reviews and channels like Carwow or Top Gear? Do you think they’ve bought the Rolls Royce or Ferrari or Lamborghini they’re reviewing? We’re showing you an experience. We don’t quote prices because they fluctuate and a good TA will always get you a deal. We pay for plenty of cruises ourselves, thank you. 🙂
Excellent 👍👌🏼👍
Thank you so much 😀
less time on the couch.
Thanks for the detailed and constructive advise 😂
I've seen the Viking boats in Lyon, Budapest and Porto. It made me sad when I realized that these people will never experience the fine food and wines that are served only a few hundred feet away.
Rather an assumption that the people who cruise on these ships never experience the food ashore. Many do!
It also makes us sad that some people will never get to experience the serenity and stunning scenery when sailing on one of these beautiful ships.
Just out of curiosity but why does it take you nearly a year to release the videos of your cruises?
Good question. Simple answer is that we produce so many from a single trip (upwards of four or five) and if we can only produce in average one per week (editing takes a looong time), and we only have a couple of weeks between cruises at home (which is mostly the case), then you can do the math and see how a backlog can build. If we only did one video per trip it would be easier but we want to get much more detail in so the lead times slip… Thanks for your patience anyway. 👍🙂
tonight strong are the jokes with this one
Haha 😂
For watching we thank you!
Waaaaay too many interview and face shots. Just give us ship shots.
Please refer to our guide to longships. Different format. No face shots at all. This was a review, which included face shots as standard.
@@visitwithus Sorry. Just trying to make a constructive coment.
@@cruisecrazy7066 No worries. We have the majority of our videos without us in them. These are a certain type which we discuss the review in a hybrid vlog/narrative. Normally they’re quite
popular. 🙂
@@visitwithus Don't worry. I love you anyway. LOL
@@cruisecrazy7066 Well that’s very nice to know. 🤣
It's "Bahk" not "Back". Johann Sebastian.
Thank you
Terrible food and grocery store wines. Get off the boat and eat with locals.
Thanks for watching. We totally disagree about your assessment of the food and yes, wine comes from a shop. The same shop that your ‘locals’ probably go to buy wine for when you go round for dinner. 🙂
@@visitwithus Hundreds of tourists eating dinner in a cafeteria cannot be enjoyable. Why not eat local food off the boat?
@@visitwithus I've seen the Viking boats in Lyon, Budapest and Porto. It made me sad when I realized that these people will never experience the fine food and wines that are served only a few hundred feet away.
We do that too!
@@visitwithus Why don't you recommend it?
