    I've been watching a few of your videos. Although I have used some of these items, thimbles, strainers, wire rope clamps, etc, over the years, I still find it mesmerising and fascinating watching these tutorials about them. You also explain very well sir. Great videos.

    Trying to make a truck bed tie out for my dog using coated cable and these little gadgets your showing. Im about halfway there. Used to have one but cant find a ready made one anywhere. If you did a video on how to do that, that would get a lot of views I would think.

    Great video, just wondering if someone can tell me if there is a rule for how far apart the two cable clamps should be?

    • @E-rigging
      @E-rigging  Před rokem +1

      Thanks for the comment! Good question. Each wire rope clip should be at least one clip saddle width apart, and your last wire rope clip should be at least one clip saddle away from the dead end of the wire rope. How far apart they will be is determined by the turnback length required for your wire rope diameter and what type of eye-splice you're installing. You can watch this video here to learn more about installing wire rope clips. czcams.com/video/HKt6kswEAXo/video.html

    If you are bending hot dip eyes, bend them only just enough to do the job, as the galvanizing can crack reducing its corrosion protection, other than that a very informative post.

    Hello, if l have a 3/8" cable winch on my jeep and I have to repair the end can I use a 1/2" thimble?? In emergency. I would tie a flemish not with a tail and cable clamps proper sized.

    If you have vinyl coated wire, do you have to strip the coating when using a thimble?

    • @E-rigging
      @E-rigging  Před 2 lety

      Hi Mike! Great question! Yes, it's very important to remove the coating from a cable before splicing or crimping. It's super easy to do with a pair of large gauge wire strippers.

    In a pure wire rope and galvanized thimble assembly, should the thimble be immobile and tightly constrained n the completed wire rope thimble after the wire rope is crimped?

    • @E-rigging
      @E-rigging  Před 5 lety

      Yes, the thimble should be installed as tightly as possible as long as it doesn't interfere with the swage fitting, wire rope clip, or other means of termination. Doing so will give you the least likelihood of the thimble spinning or popping out of the termination.

    With rigging, safety is in the details. I really think that our high school curriculum should include the proper use of equipment and how to safely tie down loads on vehicles. Some classes on ropes and knots and maybe add in some classes on doing your income taxes, and maybe the best ways to not get your girlfriend pregnant. Calculus can wait.

      Ropes for tying down commercial loads here in the UK are just about gone with H & S telling us that ratchet straps are safer, hundreds of years tying loads down safely with ropes, and the adaptability of rope swept under the rug of progress.
