  • A nice tune from Boardwalk Empire season 3, ep. 5. No copyright infringement intended, all credit goes to HBO. The link to the original song: • "You'd be Surprised!" ...
    Lyrics:
He's not so good in a crowd but when you get him alone,
    You'd be surprised,
He isn't much at a dance but then when he takes you home,
    You'd be surprised.
He doesn't look like much of a lover,
But you can't judge a book by its cover,
He's got the face of an Angel,
But there's a Devil in his eye.
He's such a delicate thing but when he's starting to squeeze,
    You'd be surprised,
He doesn't look very strong but when you sit on his knee,
    You'd be surprised.
At a party or at a ball,
I've got to admit that he's nothing at all,
    But in a Morris chair,
    You'd be surprised.

"Lucy Danziger. Ever heard of her?"
    "No."
"The next one won't know a goddamn thing about you either."

Kind of ironically, Nuck’s next showgirl did hear of her - just not in the way that she would have wanted

What did he mean by that though ? She black listed ?

@@shanemoore5104 he's basically saying that she's just another girl to add to the list of Nuckys conquests, that Nucky takes pity on and uses for them carnal pleasures in exchange to further their careers in show business. As opposed to Eddie Cantor who actually has talent and doesn't have to sleep with anyone to gain money, notoriety, press or success. The girls are clueless & naive that they won't even recognize the last girl Nuckys been with.

I wish they would have included Meg Steedle's vocals on the official soundtrack version of this song -- Stephen DeRosa is a wonderful singer, but the harmony vocals Steedle provided always stole the show for me (especially during this number).

Did nucky have eddie do the show because they needed a star or because he did not view him as a threat for Billes interests.

History says Eddie Cantor was either gay or exceptionally committed (5 kids) to his wife and marriage...perhaps both.
Either way he was a much safer choice of costar.

@The Snow Nigro u do realize that if they came out back then and said they were gay, they'd be demonized and most likely sought out and killed , right ?
