    I love this! I used to play in high school then a bit in college, and now it's decades later, and I recently picked it up again to play at ren faires. I had to practice at such a low volume because of neighbors, and when it came to showtime, I was -very- pleased with my tone. I felt better about it than I ever did as a kid. I'll have to keep this up!

    Hello, I'm currently in highschool and play trombone (learning French horn) but I have a few questions to improve my flexibility in playing music, like what is the best way to learn how to double tongue or triple tongue and how can I have my notes sound more full and connected without losing air? I also plan on buying your book too :)

    One of the things I really appreciate is your moving from note to note without and gliss at all. In fact your articulation is s good that it sounds like a valved instrument. Ive heard it so many times, even with some advanced players, and it aggravates me. The beginning of the envelope should be clean tu or du. It shouldn't be a dwu sound.

  • @johndowson7929

    💯 % Paul . When I 1st started playing again my main aim was to be able to play in for example my front room at the same time as someone having a conversation comfortably without shouting . It's not easy but hey name one thing that is easy at 1st on the trombone. To play softly gives more clarity plus it eventually sounds better. The positive on this is less effort more endurance 💯 %

      I donno if this will help your problem, directly, but it has helped me tremendously: Practice with just your mouth piece. I do a lot of driving and I carry my mouth piece with me. I play along to whatever is coming out of my stereo. I've been AMAZED at how much it has helped me in every way! I never realized just how much EVERYTHING going on in your mouth effects tone, control, volume.... ALL of it begins and ends there.

  • @rickharris8780
    @rickharris8780 Před 10 měsíci +1

    Be careful with this. If not starting with firm corners and air control this can turn into lazy chops. it SO did for me., In other words more concerned about volume than proper embouchure and that can turn into cracked notes, intonation problems and inconsisten tone between notes later. its good but STAY focused while doing it on the physical aspects as well.

    • @PaulTheTrombonist
      @PaulTheTrombonist  Před 6 lety

      Justin Siler there is no audio editing

    • @Euphoniumtism
      @Euphoniumtism Před 6 lety

      So there's background static shortly before you start playing, I can hear it because I was in the car listening with it full volume. When you begin playing the trombone, that background audio disappears. Its like night and day to me. I'm not saying you're not good at playing quietly, but the difference in audio isn't subtle.

    • @PaulTheTrombonist
      @PaulTheTrombonist  Před 6 lety +7

      Justin Siler that is simply because when I speak I am using the camera microphone with a lot of backing noise and when I play trombone I'm using the mic directly in front of the trombone

    • @milesmartig5603
      @milesmartig5603 Před 4 lety

      To further elaborate: The microphone he is using has a super short range. It is a music microphone. That means it would not pick up his voice unless he got really close.
