  • No HiFi installation could be called complete, without a Graphic Equalizer. The Pioneer GR-333 is a good entry-level Equalizer for anyone on a limited budget. This one was neglected and in dire need of some TLC.
I did my best to repair and refurbish it, and the result is fantastic
    Enjoy :)

Well done! In my opinion electrlytics can stay in the device as long as you don't use it often. If the device is supposed to be used frequently, it is recommended replacing all of them

Thanks for the nice comment and considering subscribing. As a policy, whenever I open up a device for repairs/refurbishing, I replace electrolytics. I simply don't want to be confronted with badly working equipment later on because I was too lazy to replace a few unexpensive electrolytcs :)

Have this equalizer. The extreme left slider is causing distorted sound and clears when the led is removed. Any idea how to solve this? Thanks.

Hello James, I would advise to give the left slider module a thorough cleaning with compressed air can, contact cleaner, 95% alcohol and degreaser with a cottonwool stick (yes, all four, or one of them + compressed air can if you prefer a cheaper approach).
The potentiometer tracks AND the LED power tracks run parallel next to each other and if there is dirt, dust and grease you can get (mini) shortcircuits between the LED power tracks and the audio-potentiometer tracks.
P.S.: Remove the LED's and clean the sliders with contact cleaner from the top of the slider too and give the LED leads also a gentle cleaning
Be GENTLE when you clean the potentiometers (inside and out) but take your time to clean them (two, three minutes of gentle cleaning with each product I mentioned above).
Then let the module rest at least a couple of hours to let the products evaporate. If you want to be thorough you "could" unmount the potentiometer module from the front panel.
Depends on how confident you feel to be able to do this without damaging anything.
Thanks for considering subscribing, and good luck ! :)

Hello, I've looked around on Ebay and, if you search on Ebay with "LED 2mm Tower Clear LEDs Long Head 7 Colors 10 20 50 100 Count + Set CHOICE", you should be able to find replacement LED's for your GR-333.
Keep in mind though that Blue or White LED's need a lot more voltage to light up brightly... Something that isn't possible with the GR-333 unless you'd modify it thoroughly.
Yellow or Red LED's should work normally, I'm guessing maybe Green LED's would work too.
Good luck and thanks for your comment and considering subscribing :)
