    Thanks for watching! If you're watching this in 2023 and beyond... please note that some things have changed in the mean time on VATSIM, and also in the real world! Please consult the latest documentation on the VATSIM website and the Cross the Pond pilot briefings/livestreams for the latest information on how to Cross the Pond on VATSIM! This tutorial may be a bit old, but is still useful to gather a basic understanding of all things oceanic. Do note that some procedures when you're in the air have changed/modernized!

    This video is here to provide you with a set of knowledge to work with during the upcoming CTP. You can expect a VERY busy airspace, even outside of event airports, so make sure you are PREPARED
    👉 Remember: this video aims to provide you with a set of knowledge, make sure you use that knowledge so you can adapt to differences during the actual CTP event. Because it's so busy, things will likely work out a little different than you might expect, but at least you feel confident because you've watched this video! ;)

    Your description of why long hauls are cool and "worth flying" at the beginning of the video was spot on. The feeling of TOD into JFK after an 8 hour flight from Charles de Gaulle is unparalleled. Great video overall :)

      AviationPro - I personally hate long haul flights. Everything over 4 hours is just boring for me, especially when there is no atc online. Starting the flight and beeing afk until the decent. Knowing that your Pc runs and Takes energy all the time. Where is the fun? #nohate #easyquestion

    • @AviationPro
      @AviationPro  Před 6 lety +3

      I know, it's just nice to perform such flight every once in a while. For me personally, on average only 2 long hauls a year. I always try to learn something about aviation during cruise time, cook a nice meal or whatever, do some house or homework. It's for those days where there's just nothing else to do or when it's raining outside all day. Luckily, I don't have to pay for electricity or depending on the location of my flightsim PC my flights are actually solar powered :D

    regarding training position reports: when flying domestically and there's no controller online give positionreports on unicom. With the shorter distance between waypoints I tend to give two waypoints with arrival time and the third without.
    It will train your confidence in position reports and increase situational awareness for surrounding aircraft....

  • @squawk7thousand
    @squawk7thousand Před 6 lety +1

    very useful video. The correct phraseology when position report should be: (for ex.)reporting 50N20W at time 1050z, FL340 mach .83. inbound 50N30W estimating at 1130z, 50N40W not "next", but "thereafter". :-)

    Hi AviationPro. First of all, thanks a lot for your very useful and amazing videos. Then, sorry for my incorrect english speaking (not my native language by the way). I wanted to mark a red spot on a bug that was very annoying on my first flight with my brand new 777. Indeed aftet take off i noticed false informations with ETA and Fuel status in the FMC. After double checking, the aircraft was set correctly and this is a known issue with PMDG 777. Pretty easy to fix anyways. Load a Default State Panel and customize it. Configure the State you want and save it as a new STATE. Now select this new customized State as the default. That s it ! Many others comments confirm you can also load as default the Cold and Dark State and there is no problem. However this State in real life is not common for an aircraft life. Hope it helps.

    • @AviationPro
      @AviationPro  Před 6 lety

      Thanks for watching! I know there's a problem with the panel states, but from what I know they actually released some updates a few weeks ago to deal with the problem, but not sure if it's still there.

    Hi AviationPro, thank you very much for this incredibly usefull video, as always ! I have a question some of you may be able to answer to : is there any procedure for South Atlantic crossing ? I have to perform a Paris - Caribbean flight, without even crossing a part of a NAT. Do I have to ask for an oceanic clearance ? Do I have to report my position ? Or to set my squawk to 2000 ? I spent like 1h30 to search on the internet, but unfortunately unable to find any info. I'm wondering if it's simply because there's no procedure ? I'd like to be sure, so I assume you're the best I can ask to.
    Of course, if anybody knows the answer, any help would be greatly appreciated :)

And if u wanna do a westbound flight, during the eastbound nat time ( early on the morning for example) and if we wanna avoid jet-stream, how we are supposed to operate ? And also, does it mean also that the aircraft position on fl24, when aircraft are crossing Atlantic, is based on the report message of the pilots ??

    If you’re flying a 777, then you rarely talk to anyone. It’s all via CPDLC. Also, with the PBCS mandate as well as strict rules in the NAT DLM airspace, you couldn’t operate in this structure using HF alone. Also, the callsign for oceanic is “Shanwick shanwick, or Gander, Gander”. C’mon now. Make sure to get the procedures correct.

      That’s correct, but without having radar coverage it is kind of necessary :)

    It's a shame that xSquawkBox does not feature SelCal at the moment. Many X-Plane 11 Payware addons feature their unique SelCal-Code, but there is no way to use it at the moment :(

    Just wondering, if the delivery controller instructs you to a higher altitude and speed, when do you climb to that altitude and increase your speed?

    • @luciano6970
      @luciano6970 Před 4 lety

      Initially I suppose, and if unable due to performance, you either stepclimb or say you are unable to comply. (E. G. it exeeds your max lvl or sth, but thats highly unlikely

    Thank you for your video, but I still have 2 questions regarding flight planning: Do you know if it's possible to request a higher Flight Level than the bookin sais ( I got 320, but usually stepclimb a lot higher on oceanic flights) and do you have to still file the flightplan on Vatsim even if you got the Route, the depart. time and the Flight Level on your booking?
    Cheers
    Luciano

    • @AviationPro
      @AviationPro  Před 4 lety

      You can always request a higher level, but given it's very busy during Cross the Pond, it's very unlikely you'll get a higher level, so best is to simply stick to the level provided. Stepclimbs within NAT tracks themselves are rare I believe. And yes, you still have to file a flight plan :)
