If anyone has any doubts about Camille, I just watched her absolutely crush tonight, opening for ERRA. Absolutely phenomenal performer, and her harsh vocals have only improved since this one-take. Let's see what she does on a studio LP. I'm sold though, easily.
Camille has made a huge impact on my daughter. She saw the official video for this song and immediately started looking up lyrics so she could sing along and is trying to learn how to perform screams and gutturals so she can "nail the heaviest part at the end." She's 10 years old, sings, and took dance classes until a couple of years ago. She saw herself in Camille and ran with it. This is why we need more women (and people of color) in Metal. Representation matters. 🙌
Camille's voice and melodies are so poppy that it feels fresh in combination with the 'metalcore' sound. I'm very curious to see where Novelists go from here!

This is crazy incredible. Novelists is quickly becoming one of my favorite bands. I didn’t even know there was any criticism surrounding the vocalist change. Absolute PEAK musicianship, this is what it’s about. One of the only bands I’ve heard continuously evolve throughout their discography. Amazing work, guys, and welcome, Camille! Well they went from unique, non generic and elegant sounding to trying to sound like other bands and judging by all the negative feedback, fans of this band want the band they originally liked back.
@@matthewfreeman33 100% I listened to their latest release and they are basically Spiritbox 2.0 Camille is really really really good though. She's like a version of Courtney Leplante with a vocal range that is more mid and high focussed and weaker in the growls. (there is no beating Courtney in that department!) So no shade on Camille. The Matteo era of Novelists was much better. He was exceptional and the song writing was good.

Souvenirs and the demo ep was such a unique sound, epic riffs and tones, great atmospheric ambience, sweet dissonance and djenty time signatures, amazing vocals with very dark double layer gutteral screams, and completely original vibes. They could have changed the sound of current metal. Noir and cest le vie were good, but you could feel the transition from novel to more mainstream. From there it got a bit more pop like and idk who made the decision to move from their original sounds.. maybe to appeal to a larger audience, but the reason us older fans cant vibe with new stuff is we had such love for the old sound, and hope that this sound would take off, but the direction changed to more blandness. Ive tried to be open about it all but its not for me. Everyone always says "well theres Sal3m", but no, thats not it either. Old novelists is dead, its not coming back.

I have to agree to that and even tho I like the transition to the stronger focus on guitar solo's (those are sick!), it feels like they are only there to cover up the "lack of power" that Mattheo (and also Felix to be fair) had... she is a great singer for sure but this context doesn't really work for me tbh. I still try to love the band but it is getting harder by the year sadly :/
I love the new style musically. Camille is cute, has a catchy voice and brings great vibes to the band. There's still a bit to go in her vocal development but there's a lot of potential here! Keep it up :)

Cami is the newfound flavour they needed the band to move forward. Not sure if better than Matt but definitely better than Tobias. Plus, the creative input she put into the band. Holy hell. The main reason i cannot stop watching the turn it up video is because of the choreography, well synched. K-Pop has nothing to envy her.
This video single-handedly reduced the discussion to what really matters: do you dig this song, yes or no? Instead of the arguments of Camille being a woman (in contrast to the previous vocalists), and the new sound vs. old sound etc. This was insanely well executed, I am impressed ❤ despite all the changes in band members, Novelists has always been super consistent in the QUALITY and the TALENT each member brings (or brought) to the table. So here I am, celebrating that Novelists can continue to exist, with Camille as their newest member 🥰
