@@peterp2153 I get that now as an adult, but I sat with my parents and watched this when I was 5, which was my first viewing of it, and I had trouble sleeping for a few nights after.

This is so realistic to me. Advanced aliens would be able to detect sincerity. Roy had that and that’s why he was singled out.
How do you know what aliens would be able to detect?
@@TruthDissident Again just go back to the part where the man says "They were invited". Roy was the ONLY one there that got the signal. This is why they knew to go to Devils Tower.

He wasn’t the only one. There were others in the area that got shipped out in the army helicopter.
Also, while not shown in the film, all the astronaut types that are lined up to board the mothership board it in the script. In the film, they’re there but then when Roy gets on, they’re gone. I would imagine they boarded the ship but Spielberg likely edited around it so as not t take away from the aliens choosing him and him making the choice to go with them.
I remember that i was terrified by this kind of aliens (the greys). One look at them was sufficent to not let me sleep for weeks. Now they do not scare me anymore. They just give me anxiety.

I love it when the very first alien spreads his arms wide
I like that part of the encounter scenes, they're so colorful and when they use a really cool designed synthesizer to communicate with the spacecraft!
One of the brilliant things John Williams wrote is an interpolation of When you Wish Upon a Star. It’s definitely recognizable
I never quite understood the spider alien part. It just ends abruptly, then you see the little ones running around.
It was a practical issue. The spider alien was a puppet on strings. I believe there were issues with animating it realistically and also hiding the wires on such a brightly lit set.
The idea was that there are multiple races/species on the ship. So while we don’t get to see multiple spider aliens due to the difficulties listed above, we get to at least see the one. But the majority of aliens wind up being kids in suits, which was a lot more practical.
I remember going to see this at the movie theater. I liked it so much that I recently bought it on DVD 📀 and it's still awesome today!
Guys watch frames 3:25-3:28, notice the orange flyer coveralls/jumpsuits and black sunglasses.
This movie was made in 1977 by Steven Spielberg. You can't deny that this has to be the inspiration for the Visitors uniforms for the V series franchise in 1983.

There was a president that told Steven that the movie he made was spot on to what story I don’t know but a couple creditable people have mention the same thing about this movie that it’s spot on to some truths

This is typical Spielberg, presenting extraterrestrials as 'similar yet different'. In 'E.T. The Extraterrestrial' the scientists shout in triumph that the titular character possesses DNA.
There’s no reason to think alien life wouldn’t live within an oxygen breathable atmosphere. Same reason it’s not unreasonable to think that aliens evolved on their world to be bipedal and have a symmetrical body type with two arms and two legs, given the evolutionary advantages it offers.

After this movie came out, every single alien abduction stories somehow mirror this exact depiction of alien creatures, tells you about the psyche of the lunatics and frauds claiming they got abducted, they saw the movie and had that exact version of aliens in their heads lol

There's several directors of Hollywood movies and even the show the X Files who were approached by men during the filming of these projects and asked did they want details of how they really looked and really acted. Our government fed Spielberg the physical appearance of the greys. It was actually for the reason you named. If anyone saw one in real life and reported it what would people automatically assume? That they were describing the being from this movie when in actuality it was based off the real beings. CZcams Ariel School UFO encounter. Coincidence some grade school children in Zimbabwe who never heard of this movie described seeing the same beings in broad daylight outside a landed craft? It's funny cause for so long that worked. The government intelligence agencies are smarter than we give them credit for. It worked on you and millions of others.

Isn’t it more likely that people just make sh*t up, and give aliens attributes to resemble humans so we humans identify with them and make them less scary, is also bit arrogant to assume that aliens have to look like us, they don’t look like snakes, or birds or dogs, no they have to be humanoids because some dude somewhere said so?
I do think there is life out there, I just have a hard time believing that they have to look like humans and fly in discs like depicted in pop culture. We are tiny planet in a tiny galaxy, we could be a microscopic organism to a gigantic life form, or we could detect microscopic life forms in other planets far away that would also qualify as alien life, why are so many people stuck on aliens being human like???

How did they know the aliens wanted to take any humans with them? How were these people selected?
Given how they already abducted people and had just returned them it wasn't a hard guess. This time it was a volunteer program.
Probably just a contingency by the government folks. They don’t know exactly what’s going to happen so they bring along some NASA astronaut types to send into space if the aliens are up for it.

Probably the first alien was an adult form and the boss, the smaller aliens were "children" who had the power to chose the right human. The last alien was in the middle

They're the baby versions of that tall one.
The idea was that there are multiple races/species. There’s three we see in the film. The spider alien, the childlike aliens, and the one at the end who smiles at the French scientist.
