Only a special needs parent understand, basic activities such as grocery shopping is so hard for us. Currently I do not take my special needs daughter food shopping with me, it’s too difficult of an experience but I’m hoping it improves in the future
Exposure is the best thing for them , in my personal opinion. The more you bring her, the more comfortable she'll be! The less exposure, the worst behaviors get from my experience (obvi everyone is different). Best of luck to you 🤞🤞❤❤
Very relatable, especially with the grocery shopping. That’s our biggest worry ( wandering) We try to take our daughter with us to run errands to get used to different places/ people/ noises but we do have to prepare her. We also based in her mood and how much she can tolerate. All we can do is keep trying .

Right now that is 100 percent what we are dealing with.i can't go to store by myself it gets real hard.cruz bangs his head and doesn't watch where he does it sometimes.we had to put him on very low dosage medication. Neurologist thinks it's because of the change of school and summer.

Have you tried using a relationship based approach with some more autonomy, like DIR Flooring time? Like, think about it…How does he get to say no and it be honored? A child that can speak, can say no and explain themselves which may change your mind to agree with the No or change how something is being done. For ex. the skateboard…He was scared and uncomfortable . How does he get that point across to stop? How can he tell you I’m too overwhelmed and need to go home? Since he can’t, he might be taking it out on himself in frustration. In a relationship based approach, the question WHY is important. In each situation find the why and look for how to honor his need/request. Christian is an Amazing, Smart, Kind boy. Trying the DIR approach might really help him thrive. The book Uniquely Human by Brian Prizant describes relationship based approaches way better than I ever can. I wish they handed me the book when my nonverbal severely autistic son was diagnosed. My relationship has gotten so much better with my son and he is happier. Of course it’s still hard but it’s somehow a lighter stress load.
Yes I can relate very much with this my son is still 4 so we can kinda contain him riding in the cart as we shop but recently he started vocal stimming and it sounds like a blaring ambulance which in public will get you unwanted attention.. I hate telling him to be quiet so we are trying to channel it to some other sensory input that will give him relief.. I also think it’s fine that we have expectations for our sons for example “ your not allowed to scream constantly when in public places” the little guy tries hard for me and most of the time contains it! And I don’t feel bad for having that expectation either.. anywayz I have Christian in my thoughts and prays he gets some clarity in life as well as my own son. Take care
Thank you for the update on Christian. I just stop our ABA therapy for both of my autistic kids. My first one has aggressive behaviour , I understand your problems, me too I feel all over the place. I have 2 autistic kids imagine that both are non verbal. What is the update on Homeschooling ?

Honestly a lot of parents dont take their autistic children out shopping and I feel kind of alone because I do. There are periods where I cannot, if he develops some kind of fascination and wants to keep buying those items, then he doesn’t go to the store until we can make a deal, 1 or 2 preferred items and no running off is my usual rule for him, he now knows if he violates he will lose the privilege of going, so he tends to have great shopping experiences. Now, the places where he is scared, like the Zoo are a nightmare!
Yeah, we never not go out when it’s the whole family but I definitely think about it when I’m by myself, with sebs and him. It can be challenging for sure. Glad to hear you have a great system in place to help make outing better! 💙
My son doesnt like shops and shopping, he has just turned 7.
I dont take him to shops anymore, he wont get out of the car to go anywhere, so i plan my shopping for when he is at school. I most definitely can relate.
He will go on walks but only if i push him in the pram.
I can defo relate , it's very difficult to do normal things like grocery shopping!

My son would do that SIB and hit others, not as bad as the beginning. It was last year in the summer(15 year old -hormones/ puberty) where it really got really BAD. We did not want to put him on the traditional medications they put autistic boys. We opted for medical cannabis. After a year, this summer going back to what he was last year , it has been and huge change for the better. I prayed for God’s guidance to help us so we could help our son. I knew his behavior / aggression had to be addressed so he could be opened to Aba therapy and other things. Thank God, I was blessed to find what my son needed. Look into the
Endocannaboid system and children with autism. How CBD ( medical cannabis) helps aggression in children / youngsters with autism. God bless!
Christian takes cbd and for the most part I do see some calmness when he takes it but I fear I’m not understanding the dosage how I wish I did. 😅 I’m happy you have found something that helps your kiddo 💙
@@ROCKNSTIMSi was giving him CBD too but I was doing it on my own. I knew I needed help and guidance to learn about it. I learned about dosages/ terpenes, etc when i joined a group of mothers that use it ( private group on FB ) right after the first consultation with a doctor in Austin Tx. I also consulted a person called Clive S. that guided me step by step so I could be successful on this journey. I really needed help finding out how to correctly use cbd/medical cannabis for my son. This past year has been a learning process and it has been worthwhile. I thank God for his guidance and the people I came across that helped me. Every child is different and it it takes time/ trial and error to find their therapeutic dosage. God bless you and guide you too. 🙏🏽❤️
@@ROCKNSTIMSI share all of this with you because I went through a rough time with my son last summer and I was desperate because he became very aggressive. With a lot of prayer , asking God for guidance on how to help my son , God answered my prayers. I was using CBD but without knowing much. Read my other replies. I explain more there. God bless 🙏🏽❤
@@ROCKNSTIMS feel free to try it yourself and see how you feel! I take a 20mg CBD/5mg THC gummy that completely takes the edge off. If I take 2 it's too much and my anxiety goes through the roof!
I have taken his dosage and feel a tiny bit of calmness but not a lot but I do weight 20lbs more than him.
Wow he is as tall as you. Do you feel it is harder to control his behaviors with him being the same size as you? My nonverbal daughter is 9 and tall but I am six foot so I am still over her. I am scared of her getting bigger then me or my same size.
Yes, with his height comes his strength and if he doesn’t want to walk with me and pushed back it’s hard for me to make him. Thankfully most of the time he listens to me but for sure as he gets older I worry about how much bigger he is.
My Son also struggling with autism, recently heard about stem therapy and white powder gold treatments. They are separate things to my best knowledge, so just wanted to know if anyone had any experience with those medications and their efficacy? Immensely appreciate it if you could provide any reliable valid information. Good luck
My friend did stem cell she went to another country, I forgot where, but it didn’t work. She ended up going to a maps doctor they are like a functional medicine doctor and she said that and aba therapy is helping. Every kid is different though
Please don’t take offense to this. Because it’s no ill feelings or judgement. With the headphones…does he need them on all the time? Have you had his hearing checked to see if there’s any issues?
They make noise canceling ear buds which aren’t so bulky and I hear they’re more comfortable!
I haven’t had his hearing checked recently but he’s let drs glance in there quickly for yearly check ups and looks okay. Not sure why but about a year ago he started wearing them through out the day. We found some he tolerated wearing after many years of not tolerating it. He won’t keep the ear buds on and there is a risk of him mouthing those.

Oh no that's all you need it's so difficult to find the right balance. You may have change your tone of voice when he in his aggressive he must not get use doing that you certainly don't want Christian to take it to the next level. You could try reading articles and see what the experts & carers etc say. Big hugs ☹️🇬🇧❤️
