Simple Hack for drilling in thin material with a MAG DRILL

I had some trouble drilling holes into thin walled tubing as the magnet has not enough material to clamp to securely. So I came up with this trick.

whats done in industry is clamping a heavy flat bar over the top of where you are going to drill then you can do stainless steel and aluminium

I have the same mag drill, mine never gets enough grip, even on 10-12 mm thick plate, clean and all. I think it is a poor design, a friend bought a new of the same, same issues, it defeats the purpose. They have another magdrill, a Chinesium, it holds so much better

@@1982nsu that is not the issue I am having, that is an american restriction, I get the same result no matter how thick the plate is.

Can you not just put a sheet of steel on top of the work piece for the same effect?

Didn't try it yet, but I think, it won't hold as strong to the workpiece than..
you would have to clamp the sheet of steel to the workpiece with extra clamps than to achieve the same fixing power between the mag drill an the workpiece.
