  • Sudden cardiac death (SCD) is the leading cause of death in athletes during sport. Whether obtained for screening or diagnostic purposes, an electrocardiogram (ECG) increases the ability to detect underlying cardiovascular conditions at increased risk for SCD.
Led by AMSSM Past President Jonathan Drezner, MD, the goal of this webinar is to help medical students & residents understand the steps in interpreting an athlete’s ECG. Specifically, students & residents should be able to accurately distinguish normal, physiologic ECG adaptations in athletes from ECG findings suggestive of a pathologic cardiac disorder. This introduces a novel step-by-step method to accurately examine ECGs based on the International Criteria for ECG interpretation in athletes. Recommendations for the secondary investigation of specific ECG abnormalities also will be presented.
This webinar originally took place on November 7, 2019.
