    IF it came out, give 2 weeks and people will have overclocked them.

      @Najvalsa Před 7 lety +1

      It might not be able to automatically boost/overclock, but you can manually do it with MSI's latest release of Afterburner at least.

      Grew up with the NES and made my first overclock on my parents Pentium 3. I still struggle to not say ATI. My first PC was a Pentium 133MHz WITH MMX instruction, which was huge at the time. I remember the sheer joy when I got a 20gb HDD for christmas. Now I could have a full installation of Baldurs Gate, which made it so much easier when traveling between acts, and you didn't need to swap to one of five CDs.
      I made the voltage mod to my GeForce 4200Ti(the original Titanium), which eventually fried it. I cried, but it was good fun.
      Does mr. edgelord still think I'm 14yo and not twice that?

  • @jonasga
    @jonasga Před 7 lety +21

    I can not wrap my mind around what you guys are talking about with the Windows 10 start menu responsiveness issue. I've had 1703 installed on all 7 of my wildly different machines for months and they all work exactly the same, all extremely responsive. I'm not talking 7 different 6700 machines, I have the full range of consumer DDR3 and DDR4 platforms in play from FM1 to AM4. Athlon II X4 651, FX 6100, FX 8350, E3 1231v3, i7 4770, i7 6700K, and R7 1700, not a single machine takes more than a few ms to pop up the start menu. I'm not saying W10 is some god OS that everyone has to use, but you're telling people nonsense about it every stream xD

    • @Winnetou17
      @Winnetou17 Před 7 lety

      How it's nonsense, if they literally showed 2 things going wrong ? As I read from other comments there are some people (not that many though, but certainly Linus isn't the only one) that have the start menu delay.

    • @IcedColtGoodTimes
      @IcedColtGoodTimes Před 7 lety

      I have the problem with the start menu on 1 out of 2 of my machines, but it doesn't seem to be a hardware problem due to my system having a 5820k and 16gb of ram plus my Windows loading screen is no longer the Windows logo and the loading icon and is now my motherboard splash screen with the loading icon, all of this appeared after installing the creators update

    • @alanaktion
      @alanaktion Před 7 lety

      I've had endless trouble with the start menu and general Explorer responsiveness and crashing issues since Windows 10 RTM on all my PCs. Even my Surface Book struggles with the most basic things that worked fine in all the previous Windows releases. Oddly enough Windows 10 RCs were actually much less broken on some of the things.

    • @schmiggy
      @schmiggy Před 7 lety

      Adding my support to the OP - I've never once noticed even the slightest lag with the start menu, and that's across two desktop PC's, and 3 laptops, some with windows on mechanical drives, and some on SSD. That's from nearly a dozen clean installs too.

    Those old installers were all 16 bit apps. 16 bit apps can't run natively on 32bit windows, let alone 64bit windows. There's multiple levels of emulation going on, and 16bit apps are single threaded and probably have super slow I/O access and have access to very very little memory. Remember windows 3.1? Yeah, its essentially limited to what Windows 3.1 could do in the installer.

    • @pr0xZen
      @pr0xZen Před 7 lety

      diskiller - and some installers would actually time certain steps though the install, when they either couldn't access information on wether prerequired processes were completed, or the programmers couldn't be bothered, and timed it with "room to spare" instead of going for manual user intervention. So on a much more modern system, even with multilayer emulation, it could just be sitting there waiting for either a process verification, or a timeout.

    • @DeltaSierra426
      @DeltaSierra426 Před 6 lety

      Good call there. No modern x86 CPU extensions utilized (e.g. SSE 1-4, etc.), storage writes are going to be very slow as it's manually defined by the old installer rather than letting the OS handle most of it, and limited to 16-bit address space is a pretty big issue in itself. Old runtime & library dependencies, oh my!!

    I don't know why their windows 10 start menu button is so slow to respond. I have a mechanical keyboard with mx red switches and when my key is half pressed down it already shows up. I can't even bottom out my keystroke before it shows up. I have multiple laptops and 2 desktop pc's and none of them have this issue. For the search bar I basically can find everything in it as long as it is my boot drive or it is directly accesible from the root, especially branched of folders never show up. The only things I would want to change are the default search engine bing for query quests, more cutomizability (for example pinning non tiled apps in plain text). Allowing for more transparency and adding live desktops, or a function that would make th desktop interactive once you look at it .

    • @InvntdXNEWROMAN
      @InvntdXNEWROMAN Před 7 lety +5

      I think his start up window opens slowly because of how many live tiles it had? I have zero on mine, but I have all of my installed games pinned to the start up menu so I keep my desktop clear. As for the search, I have the same exact problem. Things I just downloaded into the download folder won't show up, nor will installed programs sometimes not show up in it and I have to actually scroll through the apps to physically click on the program. Having to do that aggravates the hell out of me.

      Guys look. Here's my thought process. Give it a fair chance. Just think with me, here. For a good 1070, you're already spending damn near 1080 money anyway. Which means it's silly to buy a 1070 at all. So then, the next logical step, is maybe grab a 1080, for $100 more. But wait...Let's stop & think for a second...Why even do that, when I can just buy a 1080 Ti now, for $700 & I'll still be playing @ 4K 60 FPS, while everyone else is upgrading their 1080, or 1070, in 2 years & spending another $500-$700. Nobody in these comments is really thinking forward here.
      Yes, the 1080 Ti is ~$700. I get that it's a big jump, but if you buy anything less, you'll spend more money in the long run on an upgrade. And let's be honest, you were pretty serious about gaming because you were already willing to drop ~$500 on a GPU anyway with a 1070/1080.
      So, I can see why some of you think it's "stupid" or "silly" or it doesn't make sense, but when you evaluate where you're going to be in the future, as games keep getting more demanding, 1080 Ti is just the smartest buy, IMO. If you can afford it, that is. I understand most people don't have a pile of money just laying around. That said, I can afford almost any card I want, but I still run a 1060-6gb, so I get it. But the way I see it, I'm either going budget, or I'm going HAM.

      Yeah, I upgraded from a 570 to a 1050. I'll upgrade when I actually have a screen higher than 1080p60. Current GPU prices are still crazy because of the damn Ethereum craze, and it's not worth it to pay more than $300 for a 70-level card. All in all, a bad time to buy graphics cards.

    • @MarginalSC
      @MarginalSC Před 7 lety

      Yeah, but 15% of the 1080 is about where the 1070 OC's to anyway. So you're basically just buying a 1070 OC'ed to 2.0ghz if that's what they're offering. Seems pointless unless there's a huge market for people using $400+ GPU's who don't know how to download Afterburner. At best, it doesn't really do much to offset Vega 56, so that rumor's baffling if true.

    • @devilmikey00
      @devilmikey00 Před 7 lety

      Ya and they kept mentioning that it's to prevent the 1070ti from stepping on the 1080ti's shoes? Huh? Is this card supposed to slot between the 1080/1080ti? If so screw intels confusing naming schemes nvidia gets the new crown. Then again I'm pretty sure they meant the 1080.
      I still find the 1070ti to be a dubious product. There isn't a huge enough gap between the 1070/1080 performance to slot something in between that doesn't undercut the higher end card it's being slotted between. Locking off overclocks is about the only thing they could do which is again why I'm skeptical it's even going to be a thing. I don't think vega 56 is really all that concerning to Nvidia to be honest.

    around 24:45 or so the reason I've discovered that it takes ages to install and load stuff off of CDs is because the CDs are sequential and the CD drives are quite slow, even quick ones. For example, a 1x drive reads data at a fixed 150 KB/s, so my 24x drive (the fastest I own) is 3600 KB/s. While that seems pretty fast, it has to be 'lined up' with the reads off of the CD and I often find that it's actually a bit lower in real life. Plus, modern SSDs read way faster than 3.6 MB/s.

Can open any file on my computer this way, only slowing myself down when there's duplicate files which I've not opened before, requiring me to just double click on it (it will highlight previously run file upon second-last enter if you've searched something previously).

      Classic Start [clean, fast start menu]
      Search Everything [search fast, made of magic or something; seriously how the hell does this work so fast?]
      7+ Taskbar Tweaker [I miss XP, youll love this if you do too]

      Whatpulse [pc usage stats, keyboard heatmap, geek stuff]
      Greenshot OR Gyazo [easy screenshots, instant uploading (I upload to imgur with greenshot)]
      Notepad++ [seriously, stop using notepad.exe; set this as default text editor]
      FlashFXP OR Filezilla [for all your FTP needs. paid or free, the paid one is better]
      Teracopy [better than Windows copy handler]
      Foxit Reader [you wont want to use Adobe PDF reader ever again]
      Core Temp [cpu temps in tray, overheat warnings]
      Piriform Speccy [generic copy-pastable pc specs list, plus temps]
      MSI Afterburner [gpu temps in tray, in-game onscreen displays such as FPS]
      Irfanview [the best image viewer, despite looking from win98]
      K-lite Codec Pack [comes with media player classic, use it]
      Winamp [still my favourite, probably nostalgia. you can use media player classic for audio, otherwise foobar?]
      QBittorrent [quit utorrent many months ago]
      Winrar OR 7zip [winrar extracts and runs things better, but has trial popups if you dont buy]
      Trillian [decentralized IM so you can host own server if they ever close down - never learn another client]
      Discord [free, easy to use game-quality voip, now with screensharing and video call?]
      Mumble [teamspeak voip alternative, lower latency, not quite as many features, complicated]
      Vivaldi OR Firefox Developer Edition [fast, clean browsers which aren't chrome - ffdev is currently the new v57]
      GIMP [open source photoshop. need i say more?]
      Sony Movie Studio [cheaper alternative to vegas pro, powerful video editor]
      Audacity [free, powerful audio editing]
      OBS Studio [recording and streaming program, can stream to twitch, record multiple audio tracks; very powerful]
      You can use ninite.com to install a whole heap of these in one go, handy for system builders. I guess I also better mention a little disclaimer that I've only come to like quite a few of these after thoroughly browsing their options menu, tweaking everything perfectly (a good example would be irfanview, which I have had to screenshot my settings for people to give it a fair shot in the past.)

      My iphone 4 and 5s are still unusable but my LG V4 and S7 are holding strong.

      Elijah _ Because those phones are within 2 years old...? The 4 and 5s came out in 2010 and 2013...

      Jesse Aubrey The iPhone is meant for people who don’t care about configuration and customizability. An iPhone lasts for a good 3-4 years. An android lasts for most likely 1-2. The newer androids will last slightly longer, but any android from 2014 is almost obsolete to this day.

    i was not correcting you Linus i was telling someone in twitch chat what game you were talking about, how good it was and how it was my childhood on a PC.

    I would link the spike in searching of "iPhone Slow" with the release of new iOS versions which most often happen right alongside the release of new iPhone models. There is no time-bomb going off, but a new OS that is optimized to take advantage of newer hardware is also pushed out to existing hardware which can't handle it as well as the new models. That's why groups people keep claiming everything is mysteriously getting slow whenever new phones come out.
    Linus, you might want to install "ClassicShell".

    Funny. Linus, the guy who doesn't like Apple, is defending Apple on this... the one thing that most Apple fans really hate.
    I am an iPhone user, and I love the iPhone, however if there is one thing that I really hate, it's that each major iOS update, slows down my phone like crazy, that's why I stopped updating to major releases.
    iPhone 3G:
    Original iOS 3 - Opening Apps: no delay
    Updated to iOS 3 - Opening Apps: 1 sec delay
    Updated to iOS 4 - Opening Apps: 2 sec delay
    Updated to iOS 5 - Opening Apps: 7 sec delay
    iPhone 4s:
    Original iOS 7 - Opening Apps: no delay
    Updated to iOS 8 - Opening Apps: 3 sec delay
    Updated to iOS 9 - Opening Apps: 10 sec delay
    iPhone5s:
    Original iOS 7 - Opening Apps: no delay
    Updated to iOS 8 - Opening Apps: no delay
    Updated to iOS 9 - Opening Apps: 2 sec delay
    Updated to iOS 10 - Opening Apps: 5 sec delay
    Updated to iOS 11 - no thank you!
    Average delay times tested on apps like iTunes Music, Whatsapp, Phone.
    Apps like Safari took longer to load. Safari on iPhone 3G and 4S with their latest supported iOS, became so slow it was unusable.

    Wait. He’s saying a 1080ti. Did he mean it’s creeping on the 1080 spec?

  • @DildorTheDecent
    @DildorTheDecent Před 7 lety

    1070 Ti would potentially trouble the 1080, not the 1080 Ti. The 1080Ti still has more than 1000+ CUDA cores over the 1070 Ti.

    Linus: I don't think so

    My guess nvidia won't do this move but they will probably bin the chips so the more overclockable chips will go to 1080 and the lesser ones will go to the 1070ti. Which makes total sense.
