Finally, I found my English teacher back in the refugee camp. However, it's too sad that he has left us. He was one of many Hmong men and women now 50-60 years old's best private English teacher in the refugee camp. There, he has mentioned to us that he is a (Fab) radio operator who contacted T-28 and F-4 pilots to hit on enemies targets and as well as A10 pilots at night. We all will miss him. Too sad we lost a great man, and I hope his family is doing well.
I am not sure that he was a radio operator who contacted the T-28 and F-4. During that time the only people contacted T-28 pilot were either (FAC) Forward Air control the so called Raven and the other were (FAG) or forward Air Guide. This was the person who was on the ground with the soldiers and used radio to call the T-28 pilot most of the time. For the F-4 or the Sky Rider planes were contacted by Crcket or the so called C-130 air planes. I do believe he might be the FAG.
So sad to hear that he passed away at this age. He is in his late 60’s I guess. He was my English teacher in the Vinai Refugee Camp in the fall of 1979. I still remember a question of his test he gave us. Where do the fish live? Water, river, land, air. I answered water, and it was wrong. It was my only wrong answer of the whole test. In this modern days it doesn't matter if the funeral service take half a day or three days, nothing is gonna bring him back nor make any difference. What matter the most was how he live his life but not how many cows they killed when he died.
