  • E989VUK was delivered to WMT in 8/1988, and was new to Wolverhampton. It has been painted into this Wolverhampton heritage livery in early 2000's before being sold to The Green Bus. Restoration work by preservationists has started in 2013.
Sit back and entertain your ears. Roars from the Gardner engine, screams from the Voith gearbox and whines from the GKN axle, weaved out a charming tone with lively performance. Hardly any other bus can beat this mechanical orchestra!
    Thank you for watching!

I remember these buses too because I remember that RoadCar used to have these when they bought 35 of these MCW Metrobuses from Travel West Midlands in 2001...

Wherever you encounter an MCW Metrobus, they always sound exactly the same. God, that takes me back to the 80's and GMPTE! I remember riding around in the snow in '82 or '83 on a few of these. Ahh, nostalgia!

Lincolnshire RoadCar used to have a number of MCW Metrobuses; there were at least 35 of them when they were first introduced to their fleet in 2001, and a number of them were converted to open top to replace the Leyland buses in 2004. A number of them were still in use by Stagecoach when they bought RoadCar's parent company Yorkshire Traction in December 2005, but by the start of 2007, the last of the MCW Metrobuses that Stagecoach had by that year were only used on the Skeggy Cruiser as both open top and closed top until the end of the 2009 season.

There would have to be a DDA Compliant version of it, otherwise these MCW Metrobuses wouldn't be allowed to be used for everyday service and would only be allowed to be used for heritage services...

Maybe but that gearbox isn't suited to a Gardner engine they are at there best at low revs but obviously still cope and give the same reliable service

I'd like to know what low floor bus is as slow as that? Perhaps a DAF DB250LF, but I can't think of any others.

Not sure why they painted the roof black for as what photos I have seen of Wolverhampton Corporation Buses and when they were taken over by the WMPTE they always seemed to have green roofs.
